I don't think there is a WR in 17's class in this year's draft.  Good haul for Gute but I'm going to miss elite WR play.

17 wasn’t in 17’s class when he was drafted. It took him 3 full years to reach a great level, and really the last 3 to become what he is today. At 29 years old, I am guessing 26-29 will be his best years as a pro. He will be good the next 3 but not having 12 throw to him will make a difference.

It is bittersweet, for sure, but you have to have an eye toward the future. It's a win for Davante, and really, with a good draft, a win for the Packers... a draft loaded with receiving talent.

I see us taking two WR, and a TE... maybe even two TE's.

But....after languishing at the bottom of the draft order for so many years (and that's really a sign of success), this is a golden opportunity to re-make the team with quality, affordable talent.

Just forget about the draft picks they got (and those are huge).

We'll have to see what Adams' guaranteed money is, but let's say the dead cap hits are 25 million in Years 3-5.

Adams will likely be good for another 1-2 years, but those out years are likely going to be a disaster for the Raiders. 28 million a year is a lot of money for a guy who turns 30 this year and will be 34 at the end of this contract.

Julio Jones was great until he got to be the age Adams is now and Julio was a better player. Jones was bigger and much faster than Adams and at 33 he's been let go by two different teams in the last year. That's probably Davante in 2025.

Assuming everything you say is true, why would the Packers have not also traded Aaron Rodgers for a boat load of draft picks in order to truly re-make the team with an eye toward the future?

Are the Packers "All In" in 2022?

Or are the Packers "Partially All In" and "Partially Eyeing the Future"?

Why not pick a lane?

Watch them trade Rodgers now

BOOM!

I'm thinking 12 told 17 he was only sticking around one more year and 17 didn't want to commit long term to a team that would be rebuilding while also dealing with cap issues. Honestly, no receiver is worth that coin, especially one that is on the cusp of 30 and whose numbers were enhanced by playing with a HOF QB.  Good deal for Packers.

May be a blessing for Rodgers.  He looked to Adams way too much these last two years and I get it, he's the best WR in the NFL.  But have to wonder if spreading the ball around may be best for the team.  Probably just wishful thinking....

Who knows, maybe in the end, this will all work out for the best.  At present though, I believe with the loss of Adams and Valdes-Scantling (still could maybe sign him?), this is the weakest group of WRs/TEs in the NFL.

Lazard, Cobb, Amari R., DeGuara, Dafney as a group sort of remind me of the 2005 Packers when they were trotting out guys like Antonio Chatman and Taco Wallace.

Obviously, the Pack is going to draft 3 or 4 skill guys to challenge what’s there, but it really does look like an incredibly weak group they have right now.

Never good to have a guy on the team that really doesn't want to be there. Just need to capitalize on the compensation with good picks.

The only way this ends up being a smart move with us keeping Rodgers is if they make a major move in free agency, or trade for a #1 receiver. Draft capital is great, but if we take a top tier wide out in the draft, it’s highly unlikely he’s going to be an impact player as a rookie. At best they’re a #2 on a team with no 1 or 2 on the roster. We’ve had very few receivers make a splash in their first year.

Right now, the roster talent we have at receiver is Division II level. Randall Cobb, Gid bless him, is on the downside of his career. Lazard is just a guy. MVS is explosive, but he also explosively drops balls, and disappears two of every three games. And tight end? We saw what a dumpster fire that position was in the playoffs with old man Marcedes fumbling the ball away, and Deguara dropping passes. What guarantee is there that Tonyan comes back strong? And he’s 28 on April 30th.

Are we so sure this front office can knock it out of the park with a receiver draft pick?

Some names to consider:

Amari Rodgers

J’Mon Moore

MVS

Eq. St. Brown

DeAngelo Yancy

Trevor Davis

Jared Abbrederis

Those are the receivers not named Davante Adams that we have drafted in the first five rounds in the last seven years. While it’s true they weren’t high picks, the front office thought that there was sufficient talent in those batches to enhance the roster in lieu of free agency.

J’Mon Moore was an utter bust as a third.

Before we all break out the champagne, let’s remember for every smart pick like a Jaire Alexander or a Elgton Jenkins, there’s been a trade up for Jordan Love in lieu of a receiver we very much needed, or taking Kevin King instead of the current NFL Defensive Player of the Year, a guy that played only two hours by car from Lambeau. We traded down for King and Vince Biegel when TJ Watt was there for the taking.

I have no faith in this front office to identify young talent at wideout. I hope they prove me wrong, but this seems more about β€œthe future”. The Packers seem to be perpetually in β€œlooking to the future” mode.

Id this front office isn’t dead set on a β€œSuper Bowl NOW” mentality, then there’s no reason to keep #12.

This is Demovsky's latest attempt to carry water for the organization.

It is what the Packer press does - spin to make the organization look good.

No one in the Wisconsin press is going to point out that if Davante was not going to play in GB then maybe, perhaps just maybe, getting this trade done BEFORE THE DECENT AVAILABLE WRs WERE GONE IN FREE AGENCY would have been a wiser move.

Agents for Adams have confirmed this.

Give it a rest.

"As others were told, I was told as well that the were willing to match the money the are giving Adams or perhaps exceed it.

But WHEN they became willing to do so, and WHY Adams had reached the point of not wanting to come back, also MATTER. Eager to learn more."

Maybe, just maybe, an after-the-fact "offer" to make it appear that a similar or even superior effort was made to retain Adams -- in comparison to the offer he got from LV, is just more face-saving front office PR spewed by a loyal beat writer whose next criticism out of 1265 Lombardi will be his first.

That Davante wanted out is obvious. Why he wanted out (and since when) is something that Demo & Tommy Boy Silverstein will do nothing to uncover lest it deviate from the 1265 Lombardi line.

That the Pack got a respectable haul in return for Adams is a credit to the Front Office.

That the Front Office delayed completion of the trade until practically all the available alternative WR talent was signed elsewhere is ... completely contrary to what a Front Office that is supposedly "All In" would or should do, yet that is precisely what the Packer Front Office did.

I mean I know the loyalists don't like to acknowledge unpleasant facts, but the Packer WR/TE receiving corps that was not exactly a strength before the Adams trade is about as bad as any in the NFL at this point in 2022, so that does not seem to indicate the franchise is really all that serious about going "All In," does it?

Has any other NFL franchise declared it was "All In" by trading away one of its top players for draft picks? Anyone?

But do not fret, like all the good & loyal Packer Backers you will have plenty of opportunity to quote Demo & Tommy's upcoming tripe about how the signing of a Jarvis Landry, Juju Smith-Schuster or some other unwanted WR still out on the street will more than make up for losing Davante and how another glorious NFC North Title/SB run awaits in this "All In" 2022 season.

Maybe... woulda, shoulda, coulda... ifs and buts... probably...

Fact remains he didn't want to play in GB anymore and said so with his "won't play on the tag" comment. Once he said that, he was gone. The Packers offered more money, Adams took less. GB didn't offer more money "after" Adams made his decision.

A 1st and a 2nd is great return for someone who doesn't want to play for your team.
