The NFL draft just got a whole lot more interesting.

Hard to imagine Adam Schefter posting a load of BS to drum up clicks and ratings if there wasn’t at least some semblance of truth to it.

It would also make sense if the 9ers were the destination.  SF giving up that much to go to 3 to take Mac Jones makes zero sense unless it is meant to signal a trade with another team.  3 is a great spot to be for trade partners.  Packers deal Rodgers for #3 and likely other picks and players and they could parlay that #3 pick for other picks and players ala Carolina Panthers.

When did these olive branch trips to Cali happen?

How come they are only being reported today?

All 3 went at different times? They offered an extension? They kept Bakhtiari and Jones, and we are to believe Rodgers is still unhappy with the current situation? If yes, then he is being puss... and not the kind of player you want leading the team.

I recall Rodgers saying his future was out of his hands? Apparently he doesn't like not being in control. This is NOT Breaking News.

I stole the following quote in the comments section of PFT.
“If Green Bay traded Aaron Rodgers right now they would be incurring $38 million in dead cap charges. What team is willing to incur $38 million in dead cap charges to trade the reigning MVP?”

Tom confirming most of the reporting.

So 100% he’s 1) staying in GB long term and 2) Love is traded. This is Rodgers turning up the media pressure to get what he wants. Sometimes he makes it hard to like him.

No question he's one of the greatest to ever play the position and probably- along with P. Manning - the smartest.  But on the personal side, I've always thought him to be smug, arrogant and condescending and find his estrangement from his family to be a red flag. I also think when it comes to playoff and conference championship games over the past 10 years, his play has been below his regular season standards.  If they can get a middle of the road qb, build the run game around Jones and Dillon,  and pick up a boatload of picks and defensive talent,  he can leave and not let the door hit him in the ass. FFS, Trent Dilfer, Mark Rypien,  Joe Flacco and Jeff Hostetler have as many Super Bowl wins as Rodgers and Jimmy Gabbacol got the 49ers there as well...Goff got the Rams there, too.  Nothing good happens when you have a disgruntled team leader in the lockerroom.

Yep, he wants to be LeBron. And having this come out today he might get his wish. Get rid of Love and consult with me on the first couple of picks in this draft or fuck off.

It's a ballsy move. And yeah, it's a dick move. But he holds all the cards right now.

Tom (like the rest of the local Packer press) is always right on cue to confirm what the national press has already reported -- provided his minders at 1265 give him the OK.

What an absolute joke that DEMOVSKY came out and said there were no trade calls made by other teams when everyone else is citing to the specific teams that made the calls.

Today is like when the local press "reported" that Ted Thompson had medical issues that affected his ability to perform his GM duties ... years after the fact.

It's worked for LeBron, Kevin Durant, and Tom Brady.

It would have been more of a dick move to do this last off-season right after they drafted Love. Instead, he came back, worked his ass off, and won an MVP. He shut his mouth and put up. He thought he had proven his point to the Packers front office. I would agree.

I would rather GB burn the house down than give any player that kind of power. Only works in basketball. GB has existed for 100+ years, we will be fine even if there’s short term pain. I love Aaron Rodgers, he can fuck off if this is what he wants.

Rodgers is a realist. All he wants is to not get screwed by making less money than he deserves and not having the uncertainties of being traded or cut.

ESPN was just discussing this. They pointed out that the Packers sent MLF, Gutie, Murphy out to California on three separate trips. The team has offered an extension to his contract. Each time Aaron has been stubborn and stated that he no longer wants to play for the Packers. Also, the team has turned down any trade offers.
IF  that is true then he may sit the season out and host Jeopardy.

It didn't have to get to this point.

This is miles different than the Bert situation. Bert was a diva for over a decade and pulled the "will I or won't I retire" bullshit for 5-6 years. He also wouldn't listen to McVince.

12 has been nothing but gracious and a team player to this point.

I was 100% supportive of TT and the way he handled Bert situation.

These two dipshits in the front office have mishandled this for over a year.

Yeah, it's a little bit of a dick move...but so is moving up and drafting a QB and not telling your HOF QB about it.

ugh Bert went from my favorite player to me in tears of joy laughing when the Saints mauled him and he blew that NFCCG. Now the same diva shit is happening with Rodgers. No tough guy appeaes to be above this ego crap

1. Without knowing what the extension offer was, we don't have enough information to know if the Packers gave a legit extension offer or if they still preserved options to cut him with very little cap pain in a year or two.

2. The leaks are very likely coming from the Packers front office. There is no way the Rodgers' camp would leak this as it is designed to make Rodgers look as bad as possible.

3. The MLF "kick the FG" decision could be playing into this as well.

4. If these reports are true, the Packers front office really screwed this up badly. As of now, you either have to give him the extension he wants or trade him. If not, every post-game press conference in 2021 is going to be agonizing. By waiting this long, the front office removed a bunch of potential bidders (Rams, etc.) from the auction.

Just like Bert. Move on dot org.

Super Bowl 45 was a long time ago.

They Loved Love so much. Get some serious draft Capital and players for Aye A Ron

these days I am a Packers fan first

I haven’t been thrilled with the drafting. And I understand his frustrations. The Packers  will be just fine moving forward without a malcontent

Should have just said it- a shitshow.

He's not going to get the Jeopardy gig just because he wants it.  I thought he was stiff and awkward when he hosted.  Anderson Cooper is light years better.

I couldn't agree more. I have zero confidence in these 2.

They don't have to clear the move to draft Love with him, but redshirting your entire draft class and signing no free agents of note to improve the team last year spoke much louder than anything they could have said. In the 2020 off-season, Gutey thought he held all the cards. Rodgers appeared to be descending and wasn't in the driver's seat. Then Rodgers plays lights out last year and Gutey's approach didn't change.

I love all these people criticizing Rodgers for being arrogant and egotistical. Of course he is. Do people somehow think that Brady, Manning, etc. aren't just as egotistical? Part of what makes superstars great is that unbelievably inflated inner confidence. Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Tom Brady, James Harden, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Larry Bird, etc. are probably some of the most narcissistic personalities that have ever lived.

Exactly what cards does Rodgers hold right now?  The Packers already drafted his replacement and Rodgers is still under contract for 4 more years.  The only leverage Rodgers has is public opinion which he's slowly pissing away if any of these reports of wanting out of GB even after an extension was offered to him are true.

What's Rodgers doing to do?  Decide not to play?  Ok, we'll just play Love then.  Rodgers really can't hold the Packers hostage at all.

What is the cap situation/impact if he decides he's not playing this year but does not retire?
