Never negotiate with terrorists.

Never get involved in a land war in Asia.

Never let your star players dictate player moves. At lease not in the NFL.

Go ahead and sit. Go ahead and retire. The Packers are not budging from the company line, see Murphy comments, and the longer this goes on, the closer to zero is Rodger's leverage. The Packers corporation has been down this road before so they know how to navigate a situation like this.

Rodgers has a reported net worth of $120mm. Play out the contract and he adds $50mm gross (probably closer to $30mm net). He wants a guarantee? As he said, the future is out of his control other than how he plays.

You are all hilarious.

Has Rodgers stepped in front of a mic & camera & said anything yet? No? Until that happens, I'm ignoring all this "news"

Dumb Gunt has already stated he "kinda maybe" didn't communicate very well.  Way too much smoke for it to be nothing.

I’m concerned about how this potentially impacts Green Bay’s ability to sign talent going forward, both on the field, and in positions within the organization. If you’re a potential free agent, watching this shit show in Green Bay from afar, would you want to come play for this organization? Would you want to enter into negotiations with this clown car front office?

Cancer has a tendency to metastasize. Regardless of how this situation with Rodgers ultimately gets resolved, this may be causing irreparable harm to our profile within the league. We’ve had the best quarterback in football over the last decade, and haven’t been able to win, or even get to a Super Bowl during that time. Now this. Once is an aberration. Twice is a trend. Why would a potential FA want to go to a place with this drama, and an inability to win championships?

Understanding no solution is perfect, and since it appears the biggest part of Rodgers’ issue is with Gutekunst, I would suggest the following:

  • Murphy bring John Dorsey back to Green Bay and install him as the full GM, meaning in the role Ted Thompson and Ron Wolf before him had.  In this scenario, Gutekunst, Ball and LaFleur would report to Dorsey.
  • Dorsey brings all the experience and Packer heritage you could ask for.  Learned under Wolf and Ted.  Was there when Aaron was drafted.  He hired Gutekunst.  And he built that KC roster and drafted Mahomes, was fired as GM when he lost a power struggle with Andy Reid.
  • Allows Murphy to tell Aaron that Gutekunst is effectively fired in that Gutekunst no longer makes the personnel decisions
  • Allows Murphy to play the role he’d actually prefer to play anyway, giving full football control to an experienced GM
  • Allows a path for Gutekunst to be promoted to that full GM position after Rodgers retires in a few years, because Dorsey could then leave at same time, opening door for Gutekunst to fill the role he desires in the post-Rodgers era
  • Allows Murphy to avoid potentially losing his job, as the Board may decide if Rodgers is traded that he should have found a solution to this problem
  • Provides not just a way to placate Rodgers, but above is better for all the other players, the organization and the fan base.  I believe trading Rodgers will do incredible harm to all three.

This is a messy, complicated, emotional situation.  Pride and ego must be put aside.  Leaders need to take bold actions to remedy the situation.  They need to see beyond the moment, be able to think strategically and long term.  Mark Murphy is in that seat.  It is absolutely his responsibility to manage the situation and come up with a solution that works for all, but is not perfect for all.  I think the above offers that.  If there’s a better way to keep Aaron in Green Bay that allows this team to compete for the Super Bowl the next few years and allows Jordan Love a smooth transition to take over when Rodgers retires, I’m all for it.  But what is that better way?

LOVE THIS!

Im not upset, I think it’s fascinating how well Rodgers has played this. He certainly learned well from the Favre situation. Favre made GBP the victim and did almost nothing to shift the narrative beyond bitching about not acquiring Randy Moss. Rodgers likability is soaring and GBP’s is nosediving. I would guess there are more Green Bay Rodgers fans than Green Bay Packers fans right now.

Not me. AR can go fuck himself.

Go Pack... and get as much compensation as you can to move 12 as the JL era starts.

Good post Schumer. I’m not against Gutey and I’m not a super fan, but IF it truly is him that bungled the relationship then I don’t see how you can keep him as GM regardless of how the situation is resolved. Could be more noise, but not being able to manage your star players is a problem if true. Dorsey could be a good bandaid to salvage the relationship, Id throw out Reggie McKenzie also as a guy who could provide some support.

There isn't a better way.  It's pretty much a done deal IMO.  They should trade Rodgers this year and be done with it.

In your scenario, Gunt and the head bean counter would effectively be demoted.  Murphy would look even more inept for setting up the organization of the FO as it is and hiring Gunt.

Besides whatever egos are involved it would be not just a PR disaster but make the Packers look like some half ass organization like the Jets.  I can't imagine that would be a plus for future FA acquisitions.

IMO, Gutey isn't the problem, it's Murphy. His 3 silos bullshit limits hiring a strong GM. Gutey wanted the fucking job at any price...he was fine with having his nuts in Murphy's purse.

As long as there are silos, this shit will repeat itself...to fire Gurt at this point is just scape-goating him.

I'd rather see it happen next year but if this garbage is going to continue, it's time to trade him.  You can't win with a QB who doesn't want to be on the team so in my mind, the Super Bowl window is closed if Rodgers stays on the team.  Get a haul and move on with Love.  If you trade with the Broncos, I could see them getting 2 first, 2 seconds, Surtain Jr. and Jeudy.

IF a trade happens, prepare yourselves to be disappointed. This won't be the Herschel Walker trade by a mile.

First off, everyone knows 12 wants out, that undercuts a lot of trade value for the Packers.

If we get two first, and perhaps some mid-level player, I think we will be lucky.

Murphy thought giving Favre a $20 million marketing ambassador PR whatever the fuck that was position would be enough to get Favre to retire and play nice.
So, no. I’m not at all surprised things are where they are today.
Fully guarantee 21 & 22 and go from there or trade him ASAP.

With AR's new woman, everything is all roses and honeymoon right now, but just wait til she gets a younger guy on board

You can bet that AR will go all diva on her.

She’s in a new movie coming out this summer.......

“Felicity Jones, Shailene Woodley, Callum Turner, Joe Alwyn and Nabhaan Rizwan get swept up in summer romance in THE LAST LETTER FROM YOUR LOVER, an extraordinary generation-spanning love story ...”

This so cool.....there’s a filly called "Sconsin” running in a race at Churchill Downs......the owner group lives in Madison Wisconsin.  The jockey silks are red and white with what looks like a “W” on the front.  Pretty sweet.......    and it IS a “W” on the front of the silks.     Well, she came in 2nd.  😫

Not a fucking chance in hell GB gets a haul like that for a soon to be 38 year old QB with some recent injury history. It’s not happening.

My emotional reaction is to let him sit as long as he pouts. But as a Packer fan first, that potential trade value might set the team up nicely for the future especially if we add some stud LBs.

With how competitive he is, and seeing the Bert drama unfold, we'd have to prepare to watch him potentially lead his new team to a "Lombardi"

Gutey is taking it on the chin. Saw a report that LaFleur and the coaches are backing Rodgers. Got a real civil war brewing. It’s an indictment of Murphy that he’s let things go this far. If things are this dysfunctional how can you let Gutey stay again with or without Rodgers?

Time to suck Gunt off.

Murphy let McVince and TT atrophy before doing shit.  This guy is not worth a shit.  He's basically been on auto-pilot from the organization Harlan left him and he's slowly burning it to the ground.

The reigning MVP, 1st ballot HOFer?

Maybe not that kind of haul but it would be a serious haul.
