His lean was so good he leaned right out of the league!
Gary is going to be a damn good football player.
Jamal Reynolds... Jesus fuc.q!

At the very end. I thought it was his only career sack, but apparently he accumulated a whopping 3 sacks in his career.
Thanks Phil, but I was actually kidding. Like, "He had a sack in a game once? No way!! I need a link to prove that!"
I think what happened on Thursday to Gary was a lot of his college career. had a positive impact on the game but didn't show up in the stat sheet. Think of him as the opposite of Darren Sharper, who would have 12 tackles and pick yet did more to lose the game than win it.
You can't expect anyone to show up on a stat sheet with 6 snaps unless he's a punter or kicker.
So you’re saying he’s no Opie.
Gary limited opportunities reminded me of Parcells. Hated rookies. But he gave the good ones just enough chances in the right situations. Smart defense.
Gary will get more work as the season progresses.
#Packers Rashan Gary: "Having Preston and having Z, that’s the best thing that could have happened to me, being drafted here at Green Bay, coming in under leadership like these two guys. It’s only making me work harder and trying to keep up with what they’re doing."

So true....Nick Perry & Clay (and I love me some Clay) would NOT have had this impact on a rookie.
FYI...Clay is in the perfect situation for him & his career in LA.
When Gary was in the game I kept hearing his name called. He always seems to be around the ball. Gutey didn't reach for this guy. He's a damn good football player.
Yep!
Gary gets his 1st sack as a Packer on Flacco and recovers a Denver fumble, as well. He's headed in the right direction. Keep drinking those fluids so you don't cramp up, Gary!
Such great news. Rap was he had no numbers. Well, he has numbers with the Packers.
That sack, he had two blockers, one on the line of scrimmage and the other, a running back in the backfield. The first block was a chip and Gary just mauled the RB.

I think Perry and maybe even Datone would be much better and more productive players if they had leaders like the Smiths early in their careers. Perry overlapped with Woodson by a year, but neither one had a true mentor to help their development. Both let bad habits become the norm and have basically washed out of the league now. No clue why GM's seemingly overlook the leadership aspect of veteran like they do. I understand the money doesn't always work out, but the leadership of guys like Woodson and no Z Smith have such a massive impact on performance and development for young players that it seems crazy to not figure it out. Investing in culture makes as big a difference as anything.

That was no RB. He got chipped first by the TE then ran over the RT.
With good coaching and proper motivation he's going to be a good one. He's got all the physical talent.
Gary got helped by Flacco's not realizing his RT was in his hip pocket. When Gary engaged the RT, he didn't have far to go to get Flacco. But, what I really liked was that after the chip, Gary didn't stop or give up; he kept motoring toward the QB. I liked that hustle -- he deserved the sack.

Wow!
Right now Gary is all Bull / no Bullshit. Not a lot of technique and not really great with his hands. He’s just trying to power through people. And he’s actually kinda getting that done. Once the Smiths teach the youngster some things he could be special. He’s got nothing but hustle as well.

Was really high on Brian Burns. Looks like a good one.
Sure....obviously Gute didn't want Burns or he would've selected him. Burns probably didn't fit as well in this defense as Gary does.
And of course you have 20/20 hindsight.
Anyone know how many snaps/game this guy s getting. Doesn't seem to be on the field to much. Or if he is, he doesn't seem to be making plays.
EDIT - Just found on the web that he's averaging 14 defensive snaps/game.
Gary seems to be stuck in bull rush mode, which isn't working. He has the tools to get better though so we'll see how he progresses.
He had those tools at Michigan too. Didn't lead to much in the box score, 9.5 sacks in 3 years. Compare that to Z'darious, who had 11 in 2 years or Preston who had 9 his Sr year.
It's possible, he has the right mentors, but I'm not optimistic about the pick.
he is noticable against the run in a good way, he does not get pushed back, so maybe he gets moved to de next year or something...
Time will tell on the pick. Packers drafted him on potential upside with the knowledge that he'd be a project.

I wanted O Lineman, Dalton Risner. He went in round 2 with the 41st pick overall. He would have solved a lot of the O Line problems we have been dealing with. He can play multiple positions and is a beast when on the field. He and Elgton Jenkins would have transformed our O Line. Now, we get to kick the O Line can down the road until next year, maybe. Dexter Lawrence was also available when we picked Gary. Brian Burns went in Round 1 at number 16, over all. Hard to say how picking Burns would have impacted Gute's decision to nab both the Smiths in FA. With Burns picked, we would not have needed both Smiths, would we?
sorta speaking of Preston Smith, when it's a passing down and he drops into coverage I always wonder why. don't we have other guys that can drop into coverage? Preston's good at getting to the QB - let him. I know they like their guys to be "multiple" but it seems a waste not to have him rushing the QB.
I think they like his length in the passing lanes for short areas.

I think both Smith's were signed well before the draft.
Burns is a different animal than the Smiths. Pettine wants guys who can set the edge against the run (which isn't where we're getting gashed), Burns is a pure pass rusher. We'll see where Gary goes, I think he was drafted knowing that he's an unpolished raw athlete. The upside for Gary is higher than Burns, but the immediate returns obviously favor Burns. Check back in year 3 or 4 when both guys are more seasoned to make a comparison.

No hindsight, would've picked Burns all day long and said so before the draft. JMHO. Let's face it Gary was not high on folks wish list.
Bottom line is Burns isn't a player without weakness either.... When Gute picked Gary I jumped on board as he is the expert and Gary has rare RAS. Still have faith that Gary will become something...doesn't always happen immediately. He could still be the better pick in the long run. We shall see.
Pettine’s best remaining hope might be getting top draft pick Rashan Gary into the run-stopping mix.
Preston also has a history of being adept at dropping into coverage. Pettine's whole MO is diversity from similar looks. He doesn't always drop Preston into coverage for the helluvit. He wants his few looks to disguise his actual intentions.
“He’s starting to play faster, more aggressive."
In 31 combined snaps against Washington & Chicago, rookie LB Rashan Gary recorded seven tackles (two for a loss) & a sack.
Player on the Rise
Fast forward to Week 16 and Smith remains every bit as enthusiastic about the rookie first-round pick’s potential, especially with how Gary has performed as of late. In 31 combined snaps against Washington and Chicago, Gary amassed seven tackles (two for a loss) and a sack of Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.
“Gary is picking it up and he’s recognizing it and he’s talking,” said Smith on Monday. “He’s starting to play faster, more aggressive. That’s kind of who he’s always been, an aggressive type of kid, but when you know what’s going on, you play a lot faster. This last week, I thought he did some good things.”
Khalil Mack has 4 sacks his rookie season. Not the same position, but the jump from college to pro on the line is significant.
