Disruptive all day.

I think they just need to scheme him so his move is to the inside.  His outside pashrush is either the bull rush or run myself out of the play.

Glad to see him making plays though, it might just be the Dean Lowry effect though.

I have been very critical of Gary, but no doubt he had a great game against Washington. I hope he keeps it up....and pressures are good, but it is a weird stat. Several of Gary's pressures resulted big plays for Heineke.....they are a little bit like long foul balls in baseball---they must have a stat for that nowadays.

Yeah..   Lets be real here.  He has 3.5 sacks as our primary pass rusher in 7 games.   So averaging 1 every other game.

I'm not super stoked about that from the 12th overall pick in year 3.

He now has 10.5 sacks in 38 games played in the NFL.   At Michigan he had 9.5 sacks in 34 games.     He's the same dude he was in college, lets not act surprised about it.

Rashan Gary is starting to look like a player picked 12th overall in a draft. The third-year pro from Michigan was the best edge rusher on the field Sunday, and that includes Washington’s dynamic duo of Young and Sweat. Gary has reached the point where average offensive tackles aren’t going to slow him down. The next step is for him to start beating higher-level tackles. He’ll get plenty of opportunities to do just that in the weeks and months to come

I don't remember seeing the Gary I saw sunday at any point while he was at MICH.  Mediocre WAS OL but he produced.

Disagree that the WFT OL is mediocre. I believe they'd only given up 4-6 sacks so far....

Great breakdown!  This was most encouraging:

It’s worth reiterating that what we saw from Gary on Sunday is the result of years of working on his craft. The athleticism and power have always been there, but the technique, hand usage, and ability to set up his assignments are new weapons that he’s added to his arsenal in 2021.

For the AZ game, both Gary and Preston were asked to play the edges of the DLine to nullify Murray's running ability. They did a nice job, there. Gary and Preston still managed to pressure Murray often and sacked/tackled him a couple of times, for losses.

@JacobMorley
Pass rush win rate
Rashan Gary: 22.9%
Brian Burns: 11.6%
I'm no math wizard, but that is nearly double. Burns was my dude, and he is GOOD - if you liked him, you weren't wrong.
But Gary is passing him quickly.
Better pass rusher MUCH better run defender.

Rashan had another nice game yesterday. Without much production from the Smith bros. this season, where would the defense be without Gary regularly pressuring the opposing QBs? He suits up every game and consistently brings high levels of energy and effort. I admittedly wasn't happy when Gary was drafted but he's become one of the more important players on the defense and needs more appreciation IMO.

So it has taken Rashan 3 years to become a factor on the D and get praise.  So why doesn't Jordan Love in only his 2nd season and a lot less actual playing time  get the same consideration>?

IIRC, I believe Gary has already exceeded the number of sacks he had in all of 2020. Had another nice sack yesterday and came close another 2 times. He's becoming a really nice player.

And this kid sets the edge and is a run stopper. Something Brian Burns, who many wanted instead, doesn't do.

Which HOF player in his prime at the most important position in football was Gary drafted to replace? Besides that minor difference your comparison is spot on

Maybe someone like Julius Peppers. Sure he wasn't drafted immeadiately after Peppers was gone but I'd bet  the coaches and personal staff had Peppers in mind when they drafted him.  Spot on indeed.
