IMO, sad what the NFL has become ... if that blocker goes lower on him, they are still picking up his ribs off the field, if he goes lower than that he has to tie his shoes backwards. He led with his shoulder into the chest, his forearms come up and of course the helmet is gonna come into contact ... 1 guy is bigger than the other guy.

Sad, sad, sad.

QB's are another story, I can stomach that a bit ... but this guy can stop a score and would of. The punter(or kickers for that matter) should not be allowed to make a tackle and should just run to the sidelines after making their kick.

you're gonna piss off Mason Crosby with talk like that - he seems to enjoy mixing it up and tackling when he gets a chance.

I understand what you're saying.  But it's not "just football" anymore with badell's fancy pants league.   I don't know how they expect these guys to identify each player's position on a punt return and block accordingly but that's what badell wants.  NFLFU.

in the same breath, that guy didn't "need" to blow him up as much as he did.  but you're taught from a young age to make vicious blocks and tackles and to put the hurt to people as a way to gain advantage.  badell doesn't want that to happen - two sides to a coin that will probably never meet.

Defenseless player rule is stupid. If you're on the field expected to make a tackle if needed, you should expected to be blocked.

if you happen to get squared up in the rib cage and suffer a cracked rib, that's football. Understand you're going to be blocked and keep your head up.

A LB blindsiding a guy that high isn't the kind of football I was ever taught to play. If the punter ends up being your assignment, stop him from making a play. You fracture a guys neck and jaw then it's fair game to question if the intent is to block a guy or intentionally hurt a guy.

Other highlights from McCarthy's press conference after practice on Wednesday:

♦ I thought the plan last week was fine. (Starting quarterback) Matt Flynn was ready to play.

♦ We had a good day of practice today.

♦ We're just being smart with Eddie Lacy. Expect him to be ready for Sunday's game.

♦ Team is definitely more confident. Everybody clearly understands what's in front of us. We view this as semifinal game. Need to have this game. Paying attention to (Pittsburgh) Steelers video. We understand where we are in our season.

♦ Randall Cobb looked good, was a limited participant. The little work he did, it was good to have him out there.

♦ It's nice to run the ball all year long, but to run in Green Bay in December helps. You have to run football. We've committed more to it this year. We need to take a step there.

♦ Steelers running back JaDeveon Bell is talented, have a lot of respect for him.

♦ Three-down back points to an individual, obviously makes him more valuable, helps you tendency-wise. You definitely prefer a three-down back.

♦ You have to be ready for a letdown after last week's victory. We addressed that with our football team.

♦ We were able to correct mistakes during course of (last week's) game against the Cowboys. They had schemes that stretched us in first half, didn't handle them, but we adjusted.

♦ Receivers have responded well to Randall Cobb's injury.

This and I believe the guy that did it knew he was the punter and deliberately tried to blow him up.

Yep and that's what he gets paid to do ... change the rule or be prepared to lose your teeth when attempting to tackle or block. pretty simple.

No different the other day when Philly QB peeled back and tried to go low on a block ... no doubt in my mind the next time Foles was gonna get lit up when the opportunity presented itself, in or out of the pocket.

That's not for you or I or the guy that's making the hit to legislate, its the Zebras and Roger's jobs. The hitter makes the best judgment he can. If he lets up and gives of half-arse effort of a block and then the punter side-steps and makes the tackle ... then what?

You know whats next, he gets his arse-chewed on the sidelines, in the film room and if they do not like him, CUT from the team.

Guess what he is gonna do next time, walk that razor thin line and light up the punter, probably with a little more zest to the hit. I'm guessin the Steelers special teams maybe saw film that this punter was pretty active in defending and Steeler KingKong said, not today not on my watch ...

Yup...all medical decisions are run through team doctor. His clearance trumps everyone's opinion...MM, TT and the player in question.

There will be no scans taken this week. The team doctor is making most of his decision on what Rodgers is telling him...

My recollection from hearing Jason Wilde talk about this last week was that they expected more progress in the healing to be shown on the scans and the progress wasn't quite as far along as they had hoped last week.

You just never know with the human body, maybe this week the scans will show a greater amount of healing and that would be enough for the Packers to clear him by game time.  I don't think even the Packers doctors know for sure whether Rodgers is done for the year or not.  Every human being is just a little bit different and one guy may heal faster or slower than another.
