From the wayback machine

Bob McGinn on Jets WR Corey Davis who may or may not be a part of the trade package. With OBJ choosing BAL, maybe the Jets will try to re-work Davis' unwieldy deal

COREY DAVIS, WR, Western Michigan: 6-3, 209.
Similar in many ways to Williams. “He’s more fluid than Michael Irvin was,” said one scout. “Works hard. Loves football. Smart (31 on the Wonderlic intelligence test). Attacks the football. Concentrates in traffic. Got vertical tracking skills.” Four-year starter with 326 receptions in an emerging program. “He’s good, but he’s not like some of the top guys from the past few years,” another scout said. “He’s like the kid from the Eagles (Jordan Matthews). Little better hands. He’s a big, strong guy who can catch the ball really well.”

It's not a matter of wanting OBJ's salary, it's a matter of they don't have the cap room if they sign 12. Welcome to the world of big boy football when you have a franchise QB and his salary.

Problem is Lazard and Davis are basically the same guy for the Jets. They really don’t need two vets in that role.

Which is the same problem they have with sending Davis to the Packers as part of any Rodgers trade.

Why would the Packers want Davis at a similar salary to what they wanted no part of Lazard at?

Lazard got paid as a Free Agent, so its always gonna be a higher price. With Corey Davis, the Packers don't have to compete vs the rest of the league for his services and they can adjust/structure the salary as part of the trade discussions

The reason they'd want Corey Davis or Lazard or WR Mingo in the draft is that MLF needs a Big Slot WR who can be an asset in the run game as well as catching passes. Its a critical piece of his offense and that guy really makes the run game go.

And as soon as the DB starts girding himself for contact, Davis runs by him - same as Lazard.

So when you see mocks sending JSN or other smurf WRs to GB - ignore them.
It ain't happening because they don't fit how La Fleur wants to run the show

And with a new QB under center, GB will lean on the run game even more than with AR - making that Big Slot a very important acquisition.

MAYBE they just cut Lazard . He lowers his demands alittle bit and we pick him up !!!!

The Jets are buying a Lamborghini at the QB position!

Seeing that car reminded me there are some YouTube videos of guys that bought $30K+ "electric sports car" from China, and they aren't quite what they were represented to be upon arrival.
I don't want to post one here, as they are all 20-25 minutes long, but take a look and have a laugh if you're inclined.

that would be great, however, I am more in favor of getting their 2x 2nd rounders, I think there's good depth there and we can package to move up again using those picks...if there's a run on TE's or something...

I believe that's true. If the Jets don't give the Packers something out of this draft it will be like starting over. More teams will be willing to give up draft picks from 2024 than this year so the Packers may as well open up talks with everybody and anybody. Trade him to Miami, really burn the Jets.

Found on the internet:

Craig Carton's comments on the Packer - Jets trade where Carton alleged Murphy is the holdup on the trade because he wants more than the Jets are offering.

A Wisconsin State Journal reporter asked Murphy about the Carton allegation yesterday. Murphy ducked the question, only saying he was actively involved in the negotiations and then walked away, denying the reporter any follow-up opportunities. The fact that he didn't deny the allegation gives some credence to Carton's comments. Doesn't confirm Carton's allegation, but Murphy certainly didn't take the opportunity to quash it either.

Murphy screwed up the Denver deal last year, I sure hope he doesn't screw up the Jets deal this year.

Struck me as more of an indication that Murphy's been instructed to keep his mouth shut after his previous comments blew up in his face. Excessive hand-wringing because the deal isn't done yet strikes me as pretty ridiculous.

I saw an early quote where Murphy wasn't going to say anything other than Gute and Douglas are talking.

It could just as easily be said the Jets are holding up the deal by not coughing up what the Packers are asking. It is a two way street. The Jets don't set the price, the seller does.

I think it's safe to say Murphy now realizes it's time for the Packers to distance themselves from the complicated fella.

Just doing my part to get this thread to 200 pages before the deal is done.  Taking all the chatter away, isn't post June 1 the most likely scenario?

Cap-wise, that's maybe best for the Packers but delays any player compensation.

***Update***

I was just told that the hold up on this trade is not with the Packers or the Jets - but rather the Raiders. Jets have an offer on the table for the 13th pick and a 4th for Davante Adams and they'll eat a bit of the cap in the deal.

However, since you don't know who told me that -  its not very credible information.

Exactly the same as all the media knobshiners barfing out their barfy barf.
