The problem is Minnesota is easily the 3rd best team in the division.  Maybe 4th depending on how things in Chitcago come together. To that extent, what would extending Jj do for them?

If the Vikings could get a 1 and 3 for him I’d make that trade.  Then they would have enough to move up into the top 3.

For a team like Washington or New England, getting 3 #1 picks and still being able to take a Nix or Penix Jr is the right move.   The Vikings then taking a Maye or Daniels sets them up a lot better (even without JJ) for the future.

The icing on top of that Anderson miss is that MIN was still up by 7 with a few minutes left.  The agony had only just begun.  Their D then had to poop themselves and let ATL score a TD, then give up the game winning drive in OT.  They put it all on the kicker but it was a team failure on the second biggest stage of the season.  I think it was the karmic stink of Moss more than anything - NEP will confirm.

I remember the days before that vikings game with Atlanta. All my purple bandwagon co-worker fans were giddy--and I mean giddy--with wide eyed anticipation of glory. They were plodding about the work room floor chanting "We're going to the Super Bowl!!!" I looked at them and laughed saying "You have to get by Atlanta first!" When Anderson missed that FG that would have put the vikings up by 10, I could see the writing on the wall--and it was written in purple ink. My Glory Days elation, as a Packer's fan, was almost rivaled in the demise of the hopes of vikings fans and their team's chances. A thing of beauty, indeed! I almost feel sorry for Gary Anderson. He had not missed a FG, for two years, he misses one when it counted and now, may never see the HOF, because of that miss.

"In the spirit of this thread, it’s not lost on me that all three involve heartbreaking losses for the Vikings.  Hate that team."  MI Pack, here's another thing of beauty the vikings gave us:

The score was 14-0 Giants, before the vikings offense had the ball!  2000 NFC Championship Game.

Glorious! That was indeed another beautiful failure.

Jefferson, Addison, Hockenson would be good for any QB; that's a really good trio. Now add AJones, and that's a quality foursome to build with. Of course, Jones is on a one-year deal and will most likely miss time; Hockenson is coming back from an ACL/MCL and couldn't have ACL surgery until later in January so his availability is in doubt; Jefferson wants out; Addison is in his second year so we'll see if he continues his upward trend. But the Vikes still believe they can rebuild on the fly rather than tear it all down -- which means they'll be living in mediocrity for the foreseeable future. They see GB and how the team has been able to rebuild on the fly and think they can do the same, but they are missing the key ingredient: an upper-echelon QB.

As Andrew Brandt would put it - a first ballot hall of famer in the business of sports. He's the case study for why players should love the franchise tag. Yes, you have 1 additional year of risk but you're still paid well and if you're still a pro bowler after the second tag, you're going to reset the market in free agency.  Just like Cousins did.

MN doesn't want to admit it, but they need to start over. They're desperate to keep Jefferson and don't want to do a forced rebuild, which would for sure send him packing, so Kwesi is trying to find bandages all over the place. They are mediocre in almost every phase of the team and even pressed Harrison Smith to return as Father Time was about to snatch him.

Another part of the problem is that Kwesi hasn't proven to be a good judge of players. He drafted Addison, which was a feather in his cap, but he hasn't really hit on an impact player -- witness his bringing in QB Dobbs and drafting the rookie QB Hall only to turn to retread Mullens, all his previous CBs suck, both lines are so-so especially without Hunter, LBs mediocre, etc.

Unless, Kwesi absolutely nails this draft with studs all over and picks up impact FAs, Vikings fans are in for rough years ahead and will change GMs sooner rather than later.

That’s what happens when you give the top job to an analytics guy.

Meanwhile, tailgaters are grilling stadium killed birds in the parking lot.

Lotsa protein in a sparrow. Pretty soon they'll hire Andrew Zimmern to come up with some recipes, for those stadium killed birds. How do you like your sparrow? Falling-off-the-bone tender or with a little fight left in it? Maybe with a nice tomatillo sauce...

So T J Hockenson  wants the NFL to look into low hits.  Where is a guy supposed to tackle someone any longer? If they are going to "look into it"  then they need to look into players hurdling too. If you go to tackle a guys mid section and he hurdles it will be a low hit.  Impossible for a player to stop in mid air.

Yes! The defenders will be unable to touch an opponent without drawing a flag. Wrapping up a player, around his knees, legs is the textbook way to make a tackle.  It seems Hockenson wants to revise the textbook. As Ammo said, hurdling should be banned, too. Tucker Kraft found out the hard way, why hurdling a player was not a good idea. I still wince just thinking about it.
