So the Vikings have named Sam Darnold as the starter when full training camp opens.  This won't end good and I am very happy about that.

Would not surprise me if this is just posturing by the Vikings brass.  McCarthy (his agent) apparently wants his entire signing bonus up front, something the Vikings have never done.  Also, as mentioned, takes a little pressure off of him if he comes out of the gate in TC a little slow/off. If he doesn't hold out, and he plays well, they'll name him the starter for week 1.

Actually a smart move. Takes the pressure off the rookie.

Going to disagree with you here brother.  I think it puts more pressure on J J. What has Sam Darnold ever done in the NFL?  Big fat ZERO!!!  So if the Vikings get off to a bad start and then bring in J J he will be expected to win and win now. It won't happen and down goes his confidence.

And that is why I said it won't end well.

vikes start out @ NYG, 49ers, Texans, @ Packers, Jets. That looks like 1-5 to me and its probably better to hang that yoke around Darnold's neck and spare the youngster.

Going 1-5 in five games would be quite the feat.

(Now I wish I'd saved the link to the poll on the Vikings' record that was predicated on them playing a 12-game season....)

Lots of teams give the rookie a nice low bar to clear, in order to build his confidence and show the locker room he "earned" it.

But what happens if the rookie comes in a goes 0 - 4?  How is his confidence then?  How much confidence will the team have in him?

They can β€˜develop’ him all they want. IMO he’s the least talented first round quarterback picked in years, I actually want him to start simply because he sucks!

I think Pratt was the better pick, between the two--and we got him in the 7th Round. Minnesota sold the farm to move up to get McCarthy. The vikings wanted Drake Maye but NE ruined that, for the vikings. I think Pratt will turn out to be a better QB than Maye, as well, over his career.
