Re: Pick your surprise heroes from the Giants game
Mike Daniels. As someone pointed out above, the Giants start Marshall Newhouse as one of their tackles and the other tackle might be worse. CM3/Peppers/Neal have to be licking their chops. But if they force outside pressure and Eli has to do is step up in the pocket and throw to Beckham the Giants offense will still be fine. If Daniels (and Clark and Guion) collapse the pocket up the middle Eli is likely to go into mini-Favre mode.

I agree Hungry. Nothing to get excited about with the thought of losing Mike Neal, Nick Perry, James Starks, Don Barclay, Lane Taylor, Andrew Quarless, Letroy Guion, and Kuhn. Daniels will be the primary target. Mason will get a fair deal to stay. The nerve racking time will be the next year when "four core starters will be in the final year of their contracts: running back Eddie Lacy, left tackle David Bakhtiari and guards Josh Sitton and T.J. Lang." Lacy and Sitton will be big...

You're absolutely right. I don't think it's wrong or a bad idea to change coordinators, but 1) bring in a legit DC, not some retread like Rob Ryan or Mel Tucker and not someone on the staff and 2) fix the ****ing personnel problem. Bring in a real ILB, doesn't matter how. A new DC will have the same struggles of the line isn't getting to the QB, the ILBs miss tackles, and the DBs are out of position. Get Clay back to the edge, get an ILB or two, and things change pretty well. We are at risk...

To say that we've never seen flashes of talent from this defense is an extreme response to a poor game. Guys like CMIII, Peppers and Daniels are obviously studs, but we've seen guys like Haha, Burnett, Perry, Neal, D Jones, Heyward, Hyde, Randall, Shields, etc. have all flash serious talent and not just for a play or two here and there. We've seen it for stretches. But then it all falls apart. Why? My opinion is because of Dom. I don't know what he's dong that's the problem, but clearly a...

I have no idea what the defensive game plan was, and should probably stop there. But...I'm guessing they were told to keep EVERYTHING in front of them. And defensive play-calling was as mysterious as the game plan. I know that Peppers, Matthews, Neal, and others may have occasional pass coverage responsibilities, but it also takes them away from what they do best. And WTH was up with Hyde? He may have had 20 or more passes completed against him. Again, I realize coverage is not necessarily...

few things I noticed rewaching this game: What’s eating Eddie ? I’m assuming it’s the ankle, but whatever the case may be, he has not looked like himself these past few weeks. Offensive line seems to be opening up holes but Lacy just seems hesitant and indecisive at times. I’m hoping the bye does him some good. James Starks did a great job picking up the slack. 112 yards on 10 carries, most of them coming on that beautiful 65 yard TD. Starks is a very fluid, powerful runner. It’s invaluable...

Re: Interesting run defense observation
Another angle may be that this is the first year I can recall where all of our 1st/high-round draft picks are playing together. In the last 3 years or so, somebody was always injured, be it Perry, Neal, Raji, and/or Datone. Often, it was even 2 or more of these players. But yesterday was particularly telling, when each and every one of these guys were making plays, whether it was rushing the passer or defending the run.

Re: Future is still very very bright
Peprah yes needs an upgrade there but I don't think some of these players are gone vs they are on the team, just no longer starting. That would be Peprah. Zombo, Jones or Walden I don't see as locks to make the team. TT needs a serious upgrade at ROLB. No question there. Collins will know in March where his career is at per the GBPG (reported today). But safety is a position that is likely upgraded. DE is another. If Mike Neal finally gets healthy then great. But relying on him is something...

This will be a very interesting offseason for the Packers. There are going to be more changes than we have see in some time. Thompson will earn is salary if he can "win" this offseason. In terms of players, I think injuries cloud the future as to who stays and who goes. Sherrod - broken Tib/Fib. He's going to lose an entire offseason and most likely will not be ready to go at the start of next year. If Clifton is gone, we need another tackle on this roster. Quarles- ACL. Players recover...

I agree we'll see a lot of change this offseason. "Fixing the pass rush" is no easy task and it may well not be something they can fix in one offseason. I'd say 28-30 teams are looking for a better pass rush so talent is scarce. I wouldn't bank anything on Neal at this point. I haven't seen anyone suggest this but could it be Neal flashed last year because he had Jenkins next to him and Raji was playing better? No cure for that other than finding a Jenkins clone. Too bad Sizzurp fizzled his...

Re: DL help
Maybe I'm living in fantasyland, but maybe Neal figures out how to deal with his injuries and sleeping problems this off-season and does come back healthy next year and able to contribute more than this year. I doubt he's ever going to be a great player, but he does have the physical ability to be pretty good if he stays healthy. Will he ever be as good as Cullen Jenkins? Highly doubtful, but at this point, I'd just settle for an upgrade over what we saw from him, Wynn, Green, and Wilson...

It would not surprise me at all if Guy earns a spot, and if Neal improves considerably. I hope TT still looks for a guy or two to throw in the mix there (via draft), but ROLB is the spot I'd like to see him get very aggressive with in the draft, move up if he sees a difference maker. I wouldn't blame him for signing a FA safety if Collins is done. I believe Alex Green could be a very good RB, and wouldn't throw too much at that position. Davon House is another guy from last year's draft that...

Re: DL help
Based on how the D line performed this year. You have to have a better plan than go into 2012 hoping Neal, Guy, or (random 2011 D-lineman) has a breakout year. Have to draft someone or grab a FA. This team is too close another Lombardi to risk finding our the guy's currently on the roster simply can't get it done.

Re: DL help
Lawrence Guy is a really intriguing prospect. He's 6'5" and probably 300-310. Could play DT or DE in this scheme. Athletically, he's in the Raji category. Very quick feet and explosive. However, he's also pretty raw in terms of experience (coming out early) and he didn't exactly live up to expectations at Arizona State. You'd like to think that between he and Neal at least one of them could get into the rotation. If so, then maybe we could end the Cullen Jenkins talk.

Re: DL help
2 x DE ROLB Safety Those are absolutely needed, likely have to dip into FA for at least one of 'em, preferably DE. Wilson/Wynn just don't cut it, can't count on Neal or Guy at this time. Walden goes, So'oto needs much more grooming and Jones is just a guy. Doubt Collins comes back and Peprah proved he is no more than a backup.

Re: Packers dramatic drop off in QB pressures in 2011
Yes, Jolly and Jenkins were 2 pretty talented guys. I honestly thought Jenkins was as good an inside pass rusher as there was in the NFL in 2010 so his loss wasn't easy for the defense to compensate for. I want to believe in Mike Neal as a replacement for one of those 2, but he's got a long long ways to go. Definitely at least one or two D-Lineman needs to be drafted by round 5 to bring in some legit competition for the guys that are already there.

Re: Packers dramatic drop off in QB pressures in 2011
I'd like to see what Neal has to offer when he truly has a full offseason with the Packers before he's written off. He had from May to August his first year and his second year he had only training camp. Lets see how he fairs with a full offseason to get healthy and work on his game. We've all read interviews with the guy, he has the right attitude to succeed and he wants to be what we all expected him to be. That's the difference between him and Justin Harrell, Harrell didn't care. I think...

Obviously there are personnel issues on the defensive side that need to be addressed and TT putting all his eggs in the Mike Neal basket was a mistake. The unanswered question for me is whether or not Capers squeezed everything possible out of what he did have.

Re: Packers dramatic drop off in QB pressures in 2011
We'll never know how the defense would have performed had Neal and Collins not been injured and preseason games are pretty meaningless. The one area where TT can be faulted is his assuming that the combination of Walden/Jones and Zombo was sufficient opposite Clay. There needs to be significant changes and I would expect three or four new starters on defense next year.

Re: You're the GM...Get going.
I was listening to WSSP last week and the Grave Digger pointed out men like him and Green and their size don't come around often. For that reason alone, I think Green would be a decent, cheap insuance policy. Starter? No. 15-20 snaps a game as a rotation guy to keep Raji or Neal fresh? I'd have no issues with that. Franchising Finley? As what ? a TE or WR? I suspect thats what the issue is with his contract...

Re: Green Bay Packers and Jermichael Finley Agree on 2 Year $15 Milion Contract
If TT could swing the Flynn / Cameron Wake deal the Packers would still need something else. Wake's natural position is the same side as CMIII. Now Wake and CMIII on one side and Ingram / Upshaw / Perry / Burfict on the other with Raji and Neal in the middle of all that.... Just the thought of it is making my head spin. The monkey wrench is that Ross may have an undeniable man crush on Manning as his QB.

Re: Shall we grade the draft already?
Plenty to like about this years draft. But I think it would be fun to have a dedicated draft thread each year following the draft that graded the picks from 2 years prior. That's the only way to evaluate how the draft really went. Looking at the 2010 draft: Brian Bulaga Mike Neal Morgan Burnett Andrew Quarless Marshall Newhouse James Starks CJ Wilson That's an A- IMO. Neal prevents it from being better but Bulaga and Burnett have been solid contributors. Starks played a key role in a SB run.

Re: Shall we grade the draft already?
Glad to see more people realizing each year how absurd the grading of a draft within days really is. Even the mainstream media/bloggers seem to be taking up this tone in growing numbers. I think what’s different about this draft is that we can get excited about the thought of these guys contributing right away. BPA is without a doubt the way to build a team and the reason GB is so young, deep and competitive. The only “downside” has been that high draft picks tend to be guys we don’t plan on...
