Re: Positives and negatives
There's more than enough talent on this team to be 6-2 right now, injuries or not. Aaron Rodgers is still an MVP caliber player, the problem is coaching. McStupidface is content to run this team into a brick wall; doing the same things week after week, year after year. McCarthy is an incredibly overrated coach. He's no better than Mike Sherman, not in any respect. Considering how awful Mike Sherman's GM was (himself), you can make a strong case that McCarthy is an inferior coach (and don't...

Re: Playoffs
If they win out, they probably need one other thing to happen to get in. They were at #7 last week and Texas AM lost, so they should bump up to #6. If they win out that means that both OSU and Michigan will have lost, so the only other teams currently ranked above them are Alabama, Clemson, Washington, and Louisville. If all those teams win out, they would be out of the playoff. If Alabama, Clemson, and Washington lose once, they still might stay in front of a two loss Wisconsin team. There...

Cowher had 15 seasons, made playoffs ten times, lost in the AFC championship four times, made two Super Bowl appearances and had one Super Bowl win. Not that dissimilar to McCarthy and his playoff appearance record, and he has been out of coaching 10 years. Not seeing it. Not that this is an endorsement of MM. Since the loss to Seattle in the 2014 championship game, the offense has been mediocre to awful, he and the QB don't appear to be on the same page (or, at least, AR doesn't respect...

There is no point naming names. First off, no one has been fired. Secondly, there are no names that anyone that could list that would satisfy you. Hell, you already listed off 4 coaches that you *know* won't come and it would be stupid to suggest. How about we suggest an OC with no head coaching experience of a sub .500 team? Would that work for you as an answer for your "simple question"? Of course not. You'd **** all over that. YOU WANT TO FIRE A GUY THAT WON THE SUPER BOWL FOR A...

Actually, I didn't ****** all over the hiring of MM, although I did prefer Sean Peyton, but feel free to project. Sherman needed to go because, after being dumped as GM, he was clearly feuding with TT and the two weren't on the same page. Kind of reverse of what happened when Sherman was hired, when he was given the GM job because the Packers didn't want to upset the apple cart and hire a new GM who would want his own guy and get rid of Sherman after he had only been head coach one year.

Re: Positives and negatives
Good rationale post. The personnel issues related to the RBs have to come under some scrutiny for TT/MM did there. Letting go of Sitton might have been the right choice, but somehow thinking that Barclay was an adequate option was shortsighted at best. This is still a borderline playoff team, but I think that's the ceiling this year. At best, this is a team that will likely just miss the playoffs this year or limp in and get beat in the first round. I agree with others, this team has never...

See, Badgers still get NO respect. A 2 loss Penn State makes the playoff if they win the BIG 10 but a 2 loss Badger team is replaced by Ohio State if Bucky wins the Big Ten. Talk about bullschit!!!!!!!!!!!!!! https://www.landof10.com/big-t...wisconsin-penn-state

Re: Playoffs
First things first. Let's win the next 2. I can't see them losing to Purdue, but Minnesota is going to be tough. If Bucky wins 2 the fact that the Michigan QB is out complicates this even more. That makes it more likely that UM will lose to OSU and put Penn State in the Big 10 title game. Best case scenario is that OSU beats UM and then MSU shocks Penn State (which is not impossible, but unlikely). Then Bucky gets OSU and a "revenge" win and both Penn State and MSU will have more or as many...

Re: Playoffs
Badgers control it themselves. If they win out and win the Big Ten they are not going to be shut out of the playoff. Two Big Ten teams will be in. MI lost to an unranked team and remained at #3?????? That will be corrected in the vote next week. Then if MI loses to OSU.....MI will drop down to around 10 or 11 in the rankings.

Yeah Baby! I just finished watching the game (TiVO). Took the kids up to Mount Laguna and Julian today and with the rain and traffic, it took forever to get back home. Let's beat Penn State first and then let the chips fall where they may. Beating PSU means at least the Rose Bowl. I would love to be in the top 4 for the playoffs. Our Defense and coaching is definitely Championship caliber. But, I just don't know if the committee believes our offense is a top 4 playoff offense. Let's win the...

As much as I hate seeing Michigan win anything, I really wanted them to beat OSU so that the Badgers had a shot at redemption and this hand ringing would all be academic. Beat Michigan and in the playoff. Michigan is probably the best team especially with a healthy QB, but that is not how the cookie crumbled.

Re: Playoffs
I don't see Wisconsin if they win the game as a shoe in without help meaning a loss by Washington This sounds like it should be true. The problem is that the most obviously best teams are not playing in the Championship game. That does not mean that the winner (especially the Badgers) should not be included should they win, but by losing both of those games, they left the door open. It looks better on paper if the people in the playoff are all zero or one loss teams. Michigan maybe should be...

This is what kind of gets me. There is now a mentality in things I have been hearing and reading that now apparently they also want a "better game". So is it the whole body of work or is it who would give a better game? It seems to shift around constantly if they are talking about a blue blood program. And no one will say it but I guarantee you that they want as many blue bloods in the playoff as they possibly can and will use any excuse in the book to make it happen. Think about if for a...

I'm not sure there is truly a path for Bucky to make the playoffs anymore. If they beat PSU and Clemson AND Washington both lose then you're talking about Michigan moving back into the playoffs and I just don't think the committee will put 3 B1G teams in a 4 team playoff...especially when the Pac12 winner (in this scenario Colorado) is also a top 10 team with 2 losses. If Oklahoma (also 2 losses) won convincingly over OK St., becoming the Big 12 champ, then I believe they would also be in...

As much as I'd like Bucky to get to the playoff, I think it's unlikely they get in. I think they'll either take Ohio State or the UW/Penn State winner, but not both. I think it's Alabama, Clemson, Washington, Big10 team. If they are really serious about the conference championship games, then Ohio State should be out, but I think they'll take OSU over Wisconsin or Penn State. Even if Clemson or Washington lose, I think they'll be a lot of momentum for Oklahoma to go if they beat Oklahoma...

Right and that is the win-win scenario for WI if they beat Penn St. We can all have fun and argue for a spot in the playoff, but if we don't get in....Rose Bowl vs Colorado will much more fun to watch than having to face Alabama.

Re: Playoffs
Everybody seems to forget That Bucky went to Iowa and beat them while Michigan lost at Iowa. That should count for something when considering Badgers vs. Michigan for a playoff spot.

Re: Playoffs
But Michigan beat Wisconsin head to head. That means something more if you are comparing two teams with the same W/L record. Wisconsin has had a great year and hope they beat Penn State to be in the playoff discussion. If they don't make it in that would be a bummer but would not be a surprise either. The two close losses to Ohio State and Michigan are still losses. Win one of those two and they in for sure.

I usually don't watch all of ESPN's playoff coverage but I did last night. They had a show before the actual rankings coming out with some random ESPN tools (redundant I know) talking about the playoffs. And I am starting to wonder what their criteria is for putting teams in. One of the things they discussed was if they should put teams in there if they don't think they match up well. And I will give you ONE guess which team they were showing on the screen when they said that. Yep Wisconsin.

1. I don't think beating PS is going to be easy, not at all. But if WI loses then none of this talk matters, so I think we are just assuming a WI win for the sake of this discussion. 2. I think the media talks about PS winning so much because they beat OSU and would have a better argument for being in the playoff. They won the division that both OSU and MI are in, they won the conference and they beat OSU head to head. It is just a more interesting scenario for the committee if PS wins the...

It'd be a really bad precedent to put OSU and Michigan in and leave out the real Big 10 champ. For that reason, I think Michigan is done. And I actually don't like OSU being in - if you can't win your own conference, you don't deserve a chance to play for the national title. Not that anyone cares, but they should get rid of the Big 12, sending Texas and TCU to the Pac 12, West Virginia and Kansas to the ACC, Oklahoma and Oklahoma St to the SEC. Iowa St, Kansas St, Texas Tech, and Baylor...

Re: Playoffs
A 12 team tournament would be the way to go to make the conference championships mean something, but the problem is there are 5 Power conferences instead of 4. You could award the top 4 rated POwer Conference champions an automatic bye, and then have the 5th go into an 8 team First Round playoff to see which four teams play the conference champs. I agree that this year will expose the fact that the conference championship is not that important. It's very likely that Penn State/Bucky winner...

I've been reading some things the last couple days that say Michigan will likely be the odd man out. The winner of Wisconsin/Penn St. will likely get the 4th playoff spot if either Clemson or Washington lose, sending UMich to the Rose Bowl to face the Pac12 championship loser. There was also talk that if Clemson or Washington struggle with their championship opponent and Wisconsin or Penn St. win convincingly, that the top 10 could reshuffle with the B1G winner leapfrogging a couple teams.

Re: Playoffs
I agree with you about the conference consolidation, but I think they need to adopt the NFL playoff system and go to a 6 team playoff. 4 conference winners, 2 wildcard teams. 1 and 2 get a BYE, 3 plays 6, 4 plays 5. That way you're not penalizing teams for getting bumped out of a major conference, and good teams who lose competitive divisions still have a shot.

Re: Playoffs
I don't think you can have a playoff system with byes. Then we are right back to where we are now arguing over who gets the bye.

Re: Playoffs
#1 and #2 get the byes, that seems pretty simple. Teams who win their conference SHOULD be ranked in the top 5, it's not easy to win a gauntlet of interconference play, even the PAC12.

Re: Since No One Else Has The Stomach For It....Pos/Neg
I agree with you, and yet I'm not sure if that's a positive or a negative. I will say that Seattle made the playoffs as a 7-9 division champ in 2010, then won a Super Bowl 3 years later. That said, if the Pack were to win this division at 7-9, I don't feel like that would be a springboard to anything other than a quiet whimpering of a quick and dirty playoff exit.

Re: The Ugly, The Bad ...and the Good?
I agree with the draft and develop philosophy and have been a big TT fan historically but now, we're getting key injuries every year that basically take us out of contention and it's frustrating to see. Additionally, I think the leadership necessary to propel a team over the top is just not there with Rodgers and McC. Do you guys think there's a chance they can win the division with 10-6 or 9-7? Would be cool to see them pull together and scrap out a playoff berth.

Re: The Ugly, The Bad ...and the Good?
I do think this division could be won at 9-7 or even 8-8. The Vikings are floundering a bit and their OL is a disaster and the Lions? well you just never know they are the Lions. I for one never ever blame injuries but this team is just absolutely devastated right now. On offense Cook has missed almost the whole year, the OL is banged up, they had to start a WR at RB, Phat Eddie has been gone for what 4-5 weeks now? Shields has missed the whole season, Starks missed quite a few games, Jordy...

The stuff coming out now is Jerry Springer $hit... Basically told his boss that they lost the Gold Cup because it was fixed for Mexico to win so they would have to have a big money playoff game vs. the US for the Confederations Cup berth. Arena is not the long term answer though...I think Gulati is feeling the heat, and just trying to get the team qualified for the WC, and will worry about the long term after 2018.

Re: Rodger wants Thursday Night Playoffs
I didn't watch the game last night because honestly I have kind of sworn off TNF since the games are usually a bad matchup or the quality of the game is bad. I think we are eventually headed to a 20 and 18 game schedule but they are going have to shorten the preseason to do that. If they don't the NFL could be playing until after spring training starts and have the Super Bowl on Easter. I am kidding of course but if you are serious about player safety lets dial back the TNF games which most...

It's been a while. How many demons from 2014 did this game exorcise? Keeping a 16+ lead at half time, major playoff implications, even the TE recovers an onside kick? Injuries all suck, but it's part of the game. Happy for McCarthy and the boys. You can never seem to count this team out.

Re: Coverage Schemes
That same season at the bitter end, we watched Kurt Warner basically put up a near perfect game against them in the playoff game that we lost on the Rodgers fumble (with the ref ignoring the facemask call!!!). The defense was absolutely incompetent that day. The strange thing about that year was that the defense was one of the best in terms of not giving up many yards. But when they faced a QB who was elite or near elite, they looked like the worst defense in the league.

Appropriately, from The Dope Sheet: MM Led the Packers to their seventh consecutive playoff appearance last season, joining New England as the only two NFL teams to do so over that span.
