I’ve made up a few words 1) Neopolitism: Showing favoritism toward the flavors from the chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry families. 2) Procrassination: Putting off being insensitive and unrefined 3) Errudite: Having or showing great incorrect knowledge 4) Siezmograph: A confiscated earthquake measuring device 5) Dirgible: A sad song about a crashed blimp

My mom, who didn't speak English (spoke German) until she was around six years old even though she was 5th generation American, used to say "dasn't." I think it was in place of dare not but not sure. Maybe something German that was contracted. All I know is that I better not do whatever it was! *Edit - huh. I was correct - a contraction of dare not. I was surprised to find it in an online dictionary.

My mom had odd pronunciations of certain words. One day, she asked me, "How do you spell 'spear'?", to which I responded "S-P-E-A-R". "No, not that kind of spear", she said, and showed me a picture of her and her gal pal down at EPCOT. I still didn't get what she meant until she pointed to the geodesic sphere .

I had a friend in high school who had everyone convinced he couldn't say "ish" words. "Hey Chris, say fish". "Feeeuuusssch" He could do it with such a straight face and then pretend to be offended it was perfection.

Then there was the time my parents went to Germany to visit Dad's relatives, and the relatives took my parents to feed the pigs one Sunday after church. It turns out Dad misheard. He was translating for Mom, who didn't speak German, and thought his cousin said they were going to feed die Schweine , or the pigs. In fact, they were being taken to feed die Schwäne -- the swans.
