J'Marcus Webb makes Marshall Newhouse look like Joe Thomas. That's how bad he's been. And not just this pre-season.

GB carried 7 OL last season. With Sherrod likely to be activated at some point, and MM being happy with his OL (per his post game presser last night), I can't see TT picking any vet up unless someone unusual would get cut. And then if that happens you know TT won't get into any bidding wars for them.

Barclay

Sitton

EDS

Lang

Bakhtiari

Newhouse

GVR

Then Sherrod. That's 8.

If anything, TT finds some young Rookie player a team cut and he gets placed on the PS.

Hoped Datko would develop,& he might have, just not as a OT. His play is less than average. Suprised he's lasted this long. Exbears Webb might be a better player but TT wouldn't want to pay vet $$$ unless absolutely necessary imo.

I disagree with your assessment of Webb.  He's been a mess at times and pretty solid at others in the reg season (this preseason he's been awful).  I think his issues are maturity.  And maybe being cut after spending his first 3 years as a starter may bring back to earth (probably not).

Tom Thayer does a pretty decent job IMO of analyzing the Bears and the rest of the NFC North.  I don't find him to be too much of a homer.  Two years ago he said Webb has some of the biggest upside he's ever seen in a left tackle.  And the issue for the Bears would be getting him to consistently play at the level he's capable.  Thayer thought he could be a ProBowl T.

Now I'm not suggesting Thayer is the "be all, end all" in talent grading.  After all, he is a Bears commentator.  But I have heard him speak very positively of Webb, even at times when Webb wasn't playing well.

I actually think a guy like Webb is exactly what a team would want in a backup as far as ability and upside (not necessarily his attitude).  Wouldn't be surprised to seeing him starting at some point for someone this year.

Webb took a pay cut, I think, to about $600K for this season.

And looking at the list above, I certainly wouldn't pick up Webb over Newhouse, and I don't think he plays Guard (GVR).  But I would absolutely take him as an 8th OL over guys like Datko and Lane, at least until Sherrod comes back....IF Sherrod comes back.

PLV , After watch replay of game this afternoon , I couldnt believe how poorly Lane,Datko played. MM been telling how much better this entire team was over previous years & I didn't see his view. The OL,2ndary & LB were a sad collestion

Young gone and back to the drawing board at backup QB. Fearless prediction...

What's their team name again?  The Screamin' Zealots?

I'm going to laugh if TT signs Jimmy Clausen.  Or even better, Timmy.

Timmy is a like a bad mom joke, "Timmy is like a door knob, everybody gets a turn".

Chickdamus?
ChickMcGinn?
ChickHank?

Whoever posted Cobb I like. There isn't a Gus Frerotte out there like the old days that fits the "veteran back-up QB" Chicken____________ definition (unless they could scrape up Matt H). Develop a package like Bucky did last year with James White and roll with that if 12 goes down.

Pick up some garbage the following week if 12 is out for a spell.

TT cant seriously be thinking of keeping BJ as AR12's backup, at best BJ is strictly Practice Squad material. TT's gotta get another QB in there somehow, but either way going into the season we all gotta hope and pray nothing bad happens to AR12.
