Perspective:

For a team that uses only two defensive linemen on the field about 70 percent of the time, it was surprising to see the Packers keep seven defensive linemen, eight if you count Mike Neal. But among the biggest reasons they kept Boyd is because Raji, Pickett, Wilson, Jolly and Neal are all free agents at season’s end.

Pickett, Wilson, Jolly and Neal

Pickett's age is eventually going to catch up.

Wilson is just a guy. He fills in. He gives the other guys a rest.

Jolly if he can return to form could give them another 5 years.

Neal is a project. If he could stay healthy, he might be a player but so far there is nothing to go on.

Worthy is on the Pup. He ain't going anywhere for awhile.

That tells me the positions they might be scanning the wire for.  Sure would like to see the Titans center get a look.  Banjo makes sense for depth at safety.

If ever there was a time to get aggressive on a free agent he's the guy.  Van Roten is not the backup answer and I get a strong feeling EDS would feel pressure for his starting job in a few weeks.  MM's mantra of the closer you are to the ball on offense the more important you are should be applied here.

Here's a look at quarterbacks who were waived either Friday or Saturday. The claiming deadline for any of these players is noon Sunday:

Jimmy Clausen (Carolina Panthers; injured)
Aaron Corp (Miami Dolphins; injured)
Dayne Crist (Baltimore Ravens
Austin Davis (St. Louis Rams
Ryan Griffin (New Orleans Saints
Chandler Harnish (Indianapolis Colts
Mike Kafka (Jacksonville Jaguars
G.J. Kinne (Philadelphia Eagles
Thad Lewis (Buffalo Bills)
Greg McElroy (New York Jets; injured)
Matt Scott (Jacksonville Jaguars)
John Skelton (Cincinnati Bengals
Rusty Smith (Tennessee Titans
Alex Tanney (Dallas Cowboys
Tim Tebow (New England Patriots

And here is the list of quarterbacks who, with four or more seasons of experience, are not subject to waivers. The Packers can sign any of these players at any point:

David Carr (New York Giants
Dennis Dixon (Philadelphia Eagles)
Trent Edwards (Chicago Bears
Caleb Hanie (Baltimore Ravens)
Matt Leinart (Buffalo Bills)
Jordan Palmer (Chicago Bears)
Brady Quinn (Seattle Seahawks
Seneca Wallace (San Francisco 49ers
Vince Young (Green Bay Packers)

Don't see it happening with Sanchez's current salary....unless he agrees to a huge cut.  Jets can't release him because they would be liable for his entire 8.25 million, plus his bonus accelerate onto Jets cap.

Ed reports Packers will acquire Mark Sanchez from Jets to backup Rodgers.

I keep thinking the same thing about Starks.

I like Starks when he is healthy.

Me too.  This team has won an awful lot of ballgames with Starks as the primary RB.  He can play.  Staying healthy is an issue for him though with that upright violent running style.

Up until this TC/PS I'd agree with you. But not anymore. Wilson has elevated his game particularly against the run but also is playing faster, isn't hesitating like before when he couldn't get a feel for the speed of the game, and I've watched him get much better push then before.

Not saying he's going to be a 2009 version of Jolly but he's a much improved player.

On Wilson, that simply isn't true.  In fact, he's probably one of the most underrated players on the roster.  Out of all the pending FA lineman on that side of the ball, I wouldn't be surprised to see him signed before the rest of them.
