Tony Grossi of ESPNCleveland.com reports that the Browns and Broncos discussed a trade for All-Pro left tackle Joe Thomas, and the Broncos were willing to give up their 2016 first-round pick. However, the Browns wanted even more than that, also asking for the promising young linebacker Shaq Barrett, and the Broncos decided that was too much.

Broncos have Ryan Clady signed for two more years yet they entertained sending a number 1 for another LT.

It's official. Horseface is perfectly fine screwing his team into the ground for the next 5 years to win it all this year.

Staley to Denver to be reunited with Vernon might actually happen!!!

@AdamSchefter: Broncos racing to rework contracts to create cap room at last minute...oh boy....

this is exactly what I was wondering about with their acquisition and attempted acquisitions:  screwing the cap again, horseface?

cluster**** time

Honest question, as a fan is anyone ok with a GM ****ing your team for a decade to win a SB that year?

I'm sorry. I'm not trading a SB for 10 years of abject misery. My God, GB won a SB 5 years ago and makes the playoffs every year but the overriding sentiment around here is that **** happen decades ago and this team needs to stop this perpetual cycle of failure.

Would anyone actually be ok with this?

No. I wouldn't mortgage the future to win a Super Bowl one year and then suck for the next 10. I don't think a lot of us are advocating that. I don't want them to go out and sign guys to 100 million dollar free agency deals or panic and trade draft picks in a Herschel Walker-like deal.

What I would like to see is some effort to use the second tier free agent market to try to supplement some roster holes, but that needs to happen in the offseason. Maybe there isn't anyone available that would have fit, but the fact that TT has not fully utilized this approach in over a decade is a topic for conversation. When he has done so, it has worked well (Woodson and Peppers - and those were first tier free agent guys). The Patriots do this all the time without mortgaging the future. Maybe they have some illegal under the table agreement with Brady that makes this possible, but you don't think there's some veteran guys who could make contributions that might want to come and play in GB for a chance a ring and might take a little less to do so?

I agree with that.  Before Manning got there, they had guys like Orton and Tebow trying to run the offense.  There was a ZERO pct. chance of ever doing anything significant with those guys, so taking the chance on a slightly past his prime HOF QB was a risk I can totally understand them taking even though they knew it was only going to be a 3-5 year window.

As Packers' fans, we've been incredibly spoiled.  We think just anybody should be able to find a QB but there's not many of the very good ones out there and sometimes you just have to be a little lucky to get them.  I cannot blame the Broncos one bit for putting their eggs in the Manning basket after having dealt with Cutler/Orton/Tebow for a 6-7 year period.

Do UDFAs count as second-tier free agents?

Good points. How do you know which draft choices are the right ones? Until they get in your system you don't know.

I might argue there is more evidence of what second-tier free agents can and can't do in the NFL because there is film on them playing in NFL games.

I look at UDFAs differently. These are guys that are not likely to be big contributors right away and will need time to develop. A second-tier veteran free agent is a guy who you know what you are likely to get. The fact that Sam Shields contributed heavily as a first year UDFA in the Super Bowl year was amazing and the DB coaches deserve a lot of credit. There aren't that many Sam Shields types you can count on in the first year.

If Manning has time to throw and doesn't get hit, he's still a top 5 QB given the fact he can recognize coverages and go to favorable matchups.

If there is any pressure on him at all - especially up the middle  - he's almost helpless at this stage of his career. Other than CM3 hitting him on the read option (and he didn't even fall down) and Joe Thomas going low on the first series, I'm not sure if he was hit. His uniform wasn't very dirty - that's for sure.

Thanks a lot...you have me thinking...and now I'm thinking I'm really pissed off about last year...again.

F 'in A.

The sting of 2014 ain't ever going away. Even after GB wins a couple more.

As the years go by the ones you lost when there was no rational reason you should have lost are the ones that grind at you to no effing end.

What I'm trying to say is that 2014 hatred is going to get worse. Just give it time.

I wonder if Manning was one of the contracts they were trying to rework? Maybe they could have pushed a few bucks out a year?

First of more to come in Indy IMO.

@JasonLaCanfora: First of what could be many moves in Indy have Rob Chudzinski - Pagano's choice originally as OC - taking over for Pep Hamilton...

@JasonLaCanfora: With Andrew Luck regressing this move was expected by the bye week, as reporting. Another loss and Clyde Christensen might be the head coach.

@MarkMaske: Pep Hamilton is well regarded within the league. He's been mentioned as a head coaching candidate. It's doubtful he was the problem in Indy.

When was the last time you saw a dirty uniform? God, I hate the new playing fields!

Halloween 1994 @ Bears.   Firmly entrenched my love of Edgar.

Epic Night

"The main man in the Packer ground attack was fullback Edgar Bennett, who had the first three-touchdown game of his career. Bennett rushed 26 times for 105 yards, the highest rushing total of any Packer runner this season."

Cleveland sports anchor on the genius of GM Ray Farmer.

Disagree.  He stunk in the first 6 games and not all because he was getting pressured.  He's been sacked less than Brady.  He clearly still has some top skills, but also a lack of.  If they keep that D together they would do fine with a mid-tier game manager at QB.

Interesting question, and one that is thought about alot.  As a Packer fan and having seen the glory a few times over the past 20 years, I would say NO...

But, as a Lions or Browns fan, who haven't really even sniffed it, I would think the answer would be Yes.  I mean how much worse can it get.  Greatness for one year, and horrible for 10?  They are horrible for 10 now.

There is also the 15-1 team.  That's twice.

I think it unlikely Rodgers wins a second SB.

That halloween game was epic.

I drove up to Green Bay & hung out at Stadium View while they played at Soldier Field.

Such a fantastic memory

Oooo really going out on a limb there.

Let me know the next time a 15-1 team has to go to a funeral of the OC's child 2 days before the game.

Phaed, I'll bet you thought it unlikely he won his first SB too.

I swear. One loss and the level of "it's all over, people" posts are sweeping through this place like a mutherfarking pandemic. '

GB has issues. Lot's of them. Not fixing all of them this weekend. But it's still one effing loss people. Captain Smith showed more nut sack after hitting an iceberg than some of the folks around here.

It wasn't just the death of Philbin's son that contributed to that loss. McCarthy benching Rodgers and some other key players (Jennings was one) in week 17 probably did more. That was one of the dumbest moves I've ever seen. Not only did it deny Rodgers a shot at the TD record, it ensured the offense would be ice cold after a two week break. I doubt Mike ever does that again.

As far as the 15-1 team goes, that team was doomed by midseason, regardless of how good Rodgers was looking. By that point, I pretty much expected that the 49ers were going to come into Lambeau in January and punch them in the mouth repeatedly. It just turned out that the Giants got to them first.

Brett Favre played a quarter in week 17 in 2007, even though they were locked into the #2 seed. That makes Mike's decision with Rodgers (a guy who was much younger and less experienced) in 2011 even more strange.
