He doesn't look like the bad guy at all. If he goes to another team and starts badmouthing GB (i.e. Greg Jennings and Bert Farve) then I would consider him an asshole. If he follows the money then that's his business, it would be disappointing to lose him. GB has lost plenty of free agents that fans haven't considered bad guys, Scott Wells is a good example. Hated to lose him, but no one blamed him for chasing the money.
It's all part of the negotiation game. I highly doubt there's any sort of "final offer" on the table from either side.
TT's history is that he retains his young core players. Cobb is clearly that and I've seen nothing to indicate it won't be happening.

Ted's history is to sign young core players to contract extensions before things get to the point that they have now. A Shields situation could still happen, I'd put the odds of that at 30-40%. I think if Cobb makes it into the UFA period the odds of him signing in GB drop significantly from there.
Maybe Cobb hasn't signed a new deal because he hasn't been offered one yet? Last year Shields inked his new deal just 2 or 3 days before the UFA period opened. #deadlinesspuractionsÂĐ
Good point GD,
There is no reason to think that Cobb won't get done. His on the field play and off the field activities are the types of guys the Packers open up the checkbook for. IMO, and I follow him on Twitter, he's very humble, not looking to be the guy who needs 12389712983126 Million dollars, and is smart. He knows he has a good thing going, with the chance at multiple rings if he stays. Some players look for glory over money, and he is one, IMO. Seek glory, and money will come, seek money, and your not guaranteed to be a legend or get glory.
You guys aren't listening. It's already been established there is only a 30-40% chance Cobb gets re-signed.
We are closer to the UFA period. 28.6% now.
Probably lower, Thompson never re-signs players this close to FA.
@TyDunne: The #Packers have released inside linebacker Brad Jones.
@jasonjwilde: Thompson on Jones: "We thank Brad for his contributions and dedication to the Packers over the past six years. We wish him all the best."

One down, one to go.
@TomSilverstein: The #Packers have released LB Brad Jones. They will gain $3.75 million of cap space as a result of the move.
@TomSilverstein: The #Packers signed Jones to a three-year, $11.5M contract with a signing bonus of $3M on March 21, 2013. Not TT's best signing.
@TomSilverstein: About a week before they signed Jones in '13, they had cut Hawk's salary to $10.6M over three years.
@ByRyanWood: Brad Jones' release will be popular in Green Bay, understandably. Still, for a 7th-round pick, 6 seasons, 36 starts and 76 games ain't bad.
Yet AJHawksucks is still on the roster. At least Jones made a couple of positive plays this season.
Patience, grasshopper. Slowly but surely, the festering pus warts that boiled over in Seattle are being lanced: Slo-dum, MM's sideline management, Bostick and now Jones. They're not done yet by a long shot.
The ice in TTs Budlight is toast.
I see Hawk had surgery for bone spurs. Sure the hell hope it isn't the excuse that keeps him on this roster.
This is coming straight from my ass, but perhaps they're doing so in order to have the team and/or insurance cover his rehab for a bit. Once that's over, he's gone.
This doesn't bode well for Cobb. TT is releasing proven players rather than re-signing them.
and another one down! see ya jones.
and there was much celebrating

My intuition is tingling.

Another more recent example is James Jones. Nobody is calling Jones a bad guy because he wanted coin and went to Oakland. Good for James, if that's what he thought was in his unique best interest than I applaud him and wish him the best.
James Jones also wanted to be closer to home and his free camp he runs for kids. Money was almost a secondary thing for him. The guy is pure class.
I know everyone is happy that Jones is gone, but any team would take this in a heartbeat... Some of those starts and games aren't great, but you have a 7th Rounder who plays about half his career at an average level, I'll take it.

What about the icing on his cookie?

Just because a dude is a starter, doesn't mean he's good. BJ was that pair of shoes you paid $200 for, but gave you blisters...but on general principal, you wore them anyway until you just got used to them.

Cool ass haircut anyone????

Average level is more like Barrington learning the position. Brad Jones could only aspire to be average. What is bad is the fact that he was able to find the field at all. He proved his (lack of) worth over and over again and it was usually to the detriment of the team he was on.
Unfortunately TT was not able to give the coaches quite enough talent to make him replaceable which is saying something. Obviously they now feel better off without him. Not sure why it took so long.
Dude was drafted 7th round. Packers made him a world champ and a millionaire. Have a nice retirement, Brad. Can we now issue a restraining order to keep him 5 miles from any future GB game?
Brad Jones will sign with the Queens by the end of next week.
I think he'll follow MD Jennings south
bears are moving to a 3-4 and he can be of assistance there
Someone will sign Brad Jones and TT will recoup the original 7th round investment with a compensatory pick in 2016.
You don't get a compensatory pick when you cut a player.
Once Brad Jones signed a second contract, his draft status doesn't matter. He didn't live up to the contract, so now he is gone.
Doh!
Nevermind.

thank the Good Lord, I am going to have a beer to celebrate.
He played reasonably well prior to getting the extension. Unfortunately for the Packers, it was all downhill from there. My lasting memory of Brad will be the numerous killer penalties that extended drives for the opposition.
