He doesn't look like the bad guy at all. If he goes to another team and starts badmouthing GB (i.e. Greg Jennings and Bert Farve) then I would consider him an asshole. If he follows the money then that's his business, it would be disappointing to lose him. GB has lost plenty of free agents that fans haven't considered bad guys, Scott Wells is a good example. Hated to lose him, but no one blamed him for chasing the money.

TT's history is that he retains his young core players. Cobb is clearly that and I've seen nothing to indicate it won't be happening.

Ted's history is to sign young core players to contract extensions before things get to the point that they have now.  A Shields situation could still happen, I'd put the odds of that at 30-40%.  I think if Cobb makes it into the UFA period the odds of him signing in GB drop significantly from there.

Cobb may be wanting to be avoiding what happened to Shields last offseason. Shields essentially set the market for CBs with his deal and he saw a few CBs signed to bigger deals after he signed. There's some talented young receivers in this FA class like Jeremy Maclin, Michael Crabtree, and Dez Bryant (who will probably franchised) so Cobb's agent may be waiting to see who sets the market before he signs.

Good point GD,

There is no reason to think that Cobb won't get done.  His on the field play and off the field activities are the types of guys the Packers open up the checkbook for.  IMO, and I follow him on Twitter, he's very humble, not looking to be the guy who needs 12389712983126 Million dollars, and is smart.  He knows he has a good thing going, with the chance at multiple rings if he stays.  Some players look for glory over money, and he is one, IMO.  Seek glory, and money will come, seek money, and your not guaranteed to be a legend or get glory.

@TomSilverstein: The #Packers have released LB Brad Jones. They will gain $3.75 million of cap space as a result of the move.

@TomSilverstein: The #Packers signed Jones to a  three-year, $11.5M contract with a signing bonus of $3M on March 21, 2013. Not TT's best signing.

@TomSilverstein: About a week before they signed Jones in '13, they had cut Hawk's salary to $10.6M over three years.

@ByRyanWood: Brad Jones' release will be popular in Green Bay, understandably. Still, for a 7th-round pick, 6 seasons, 36 starts and 76 games ain't bad.

Another more recent example is James Jones.  Nobody is calling Jones a bad guy because he wanted coin and went to Oakland.  Good for James, if that's what he thought was in his unique best interest than I applaud him and wish him the best.

I know everyone is happy that Jones is gone, but any team would take this in a heartbeat...  Some of those starts and games aren't great, but you have a 7th Rounder who plays about half his career at an average level, I'll take it.

Just because a dude is a starter, doesn't mean he's good. BJ was that pair of shoes you paid $200 for, but gave you blisters...but on general principal, you wore them anyway until you just got used to them.

Average level is more like Barrington learning the position. Brad Jones could only aspire to be average. What is bad is the fact that he was able to find the field at all. He proved his (lack of) worth over and over again and it was usually to the detriment of the team he was on.

Unfortunately TT was not able to give the coaches quite enough talent to make him replaceable which is saying something. Obviously they now feel better off without him. Not sure why it took so long.
