Not really. They've been doormats most of that time with a few errant glimmers when they went to the SB with Grossman, traded for Cutler, drafted Trubisky and then Fields. I think Poles is the difference this time. He has to get the QB and HC right for them to finally break through.

Whatever cap money Green Bay spent to keep Cutler in Chicago, was well worth it! Cutler may make the GBP HOF.
I keep trying to figure out which team would actually be dumb enough to trade for Fields a Bears QB? Maybe NE or LV could be stupid enough to do it.
Steelers were rumored to be interested, but Russell is in the bag for them now so I can't imagine the market is there.
The most Bear thing ever is them keeping Justin Fields and trading the #1 overall pick TWO straight years in a row.
It might be a fun thing to see if they keep Justin plus Caleb Williams too.

The answer to most questions is money
The problem the Bears have is if a team needs a QB they’ve either addressed it now - such as Russell Wilson or Kirk Cousins signing- or they are likely going to draft a guy to save money and invest in the future. Even the second tier guys like Penix Jr and Nix and McCarthy are better options.
No team is going to give up a 1st or even a 2nd rounder knowing he’s a one year rental given the 5th year option looming out there.

6th rounder with the possibility of upgrading to. 4th. So much for all that talk of a first.😭

Is Caleb Williams a generational talent like Elway, manning, or supposedly Trevor Lawrence is supposed to be. Or are pundits trashing him for things other than what happens on the field. I am old enough to remember the buzz about Elway and payton but dont see the same with this kid. Never saw Elway or manning crying while getting beat like this kid. Is he that fragile?
Stupid move by CHI, no surprise.
Shoulda played Fields this season and let Williams sit. Bears still could've received a 6th 12 months from now.
This gives Chicago a chance to raze Williams a year earlier.

Bears went to combine planning to get a 2nd or 3rd plus a future conditional based on Fields play. They didn't get one team to bite.
Fields sucks - and apparently the bears were the last team to figure that out

Not to nitpick, but Elway was the guy who refused (publicly) to play for the Baltimore Colts. Wanted to play on/near the West Coast or for Dallas. Also used his status as a top NCAA baseball player as leverage. Demanded the Colts not draft him or he would play baseball. After the Colts called his bluff, he refused to sign with them. Elway was very public about his intentions to force the Colts to not pick him or to trade him after the draft. This all worked as Baltimore traded him to Denver.
Chicago getting Keenan Allen for a 4th was a really nice pick-up. They have talent on offense at the skill positions (Allen, DL Moore, Kmet, Everett, Swift, and Herbert). If they get any O-line play at all. the offense can be top half in the NFL.

Poles hasn't been perfect but he's been pretty good. They've added some OL help the last couple weeks too. I'm fairly certain they'll draft another in RD1 or RD2. If CW is half as good as 90% of the media think he is, they'll be making noise this year.
