With Rodgers out for the season, does that take any pressure off Love?
Left Achilles complete tear. MRI reveals
FML... 🤬
tough injury. No way he goes out like that. He will come back...If jets have success without him I could see him somewhere else next year. San Fran? Vikings? Bears? Deja Vu all over again....
He has a 2 year deal with the Jets. He'll play with the Jets if he comes back at all

One thing that is almost guaranteed going forward, Rodgers will likely never see another large contract in the NFL again.
Admittedly there are some really dumb organizations that maybe would take a chance on him as a damaged goods 40 years old player, but I think it would be for a contract nowhere close to what he got even this year.
@Boris posted:I thought he'd be more quick release guy in NY with a crappy O-Line, especially vs Bills DL. You can see from the screenshot, had a guy wide open underneath for a modest gain and live to fight the next play.
But nooo.....I need the "hero shot"
Packers 2nd rounders have traditionally been very good selections.
Favre was "re-born" in 2007 after buying into McCarthy's version of the WCO, but then reverted to "I know best". Why do even Ponder throwing there.
Rodgers was "revitalized' after MiLF came in, but eventually reverted to what works best for him.
AR might have become quick release guy in NY if not for his buddy calling the plays.
There are rarely 32 guys with 1st round grades. The good GMs work within tiers and BPA in a position of need, while considering overall depth available of the position in the draft.
He took a pay cut this year - restructured his deal with NY.
No matter what happens he has enough money to last him 3 lifetimes.
That would have been a partial tear in Green Bay given how he was half-assing everything.
Getting his money off the books was the most important part of this deal. Draft picks were just gravy.
that GM and coach are on a very short leash all of a sudden...
Never like to see injuries and that's why the Jets demanded some protection against a catastrophic injury. He's a Jet and I really don't care one way or the other otherwise.
Aaron Rodgers had expressed to #Jets coaches that he doesn't like the play-calls involving the cut-blocks because he can't extend the play and it forces him to get rid of the ball quickly, sources tell me and @DMRussini.

It failed twice on his four drop-backs — one resulted in…
The play he got hurt on with Wilson running wide open.

He also has no kids or other dependents, and has almost nothing to do with his family. What can he spend it on anyway?
Wasn't that former Bears RD01 bust, Leonard Floyd that popped AR's achilles?
All this time, Floyd was playing the long game.

I was rooting for Rodgers.
Sucks for the Pack as the 1 becomes a 2.
Sucks for the Jets as they traded a 1 and a 2 for 4 snaps.
I wonder if he retires now. Coming back from year long injury at his age is not easy. He has to be tempted to say fuck it, I’ll play cart golf in CA for a while.
Just don't see him retiring and going out like that. I'd be shocked. Probably feels like he owes the Jets too.

I posted this last night right after he got hurt. The context for this makes it even worse. It was 1st and 10 at the 43. If he throws it, it's at least a 12 yard gain. It's a beautifully schemed play. The guy the play is designed to go to is a top 10 WR in the NFL. It's the equivalent of turning down a touch for Davante Adams when he was in Green Bay. He's your best playmaker and he's wide open literally 15 yards in front of you with a throwing lane wide enough to drive several semis through.
Also, it wasn't like it was 3rd and 20 and you had to get the opposing 37 to pick up a first down to extend the drive.
The OT wasn't great here, but he slowed down Floyd enough for the play to work. It's supposed to be 3 steps with the ball out.
It will be interesting to see how Hackett does with Zach Wilson. Much like MLF, he's had to build his offensive schemes around diva QBs that would ignore the easy stuff to try to play hero ball. It's very difficult to put your own stamp on an offense if you have HOF QBs to deal with. They make you look good, but it's often outside of the play design. Hackett has had to deal with Rodgers and Russell Wilson (who has even more of a god complex than Rodgers) the last 5 years. Zach Wilson is likely to run what Hackett wants him to.
Finally, the reason Tom Brady played until he was 45 (and played well) is that he made a living his entire career by throwing that pass to Garrett Wilson that Rodgers turned down on the play he got injured. Brady would lead TD drives that had 4-5 of those types of throws on every possession.

Rodgers biggest attribute (and what got him into trouble later in his career) was his mobility in the pocket. If he comes back and plays like Tom Brady or Payton Manning (basically statues in the pocket) he could be successful. The days of him spinning out of sack, rolling to his left and throwing darts 40 yards downfield are probably over.
Saw that too many times as a Packer fan. Unfortunate injury but glad we've got a guy who's willing to take what the defense gives him.

I don't think Rodgers feels like he owes anybody anything except maybe himself. I think he will take a long year of sweat lodges and see how the rehab goes. If it goes well he might try to play next year, if not he will retire. He likes all the attention and will milk it all year long.

But AR is, err was working with his buddy OC Nat Hackett. They weren’t on same page? Blaming him? Hack couldn’t force Codgers to get rid of ball quick, he plays his own game.
Will AR stay with Jets and be on sidelines to coach up Zach? Or avoid distraction and rehab in Cali?
@michiganjoe posted:The play he got hurt on with Wilson running wide open.
To be fair, at this point in the play he wasn't looking to Wilson's side, but a split second later he was and Wilson was still wide open. Rodgers saw Wilson and would have probably taken a hit on the throw but if he would have just played in rhythm he would have hit the WR.
This is one thing I noticed about Love, while our O-line is miles better than the Jets, he stood in the pocket and took a few hits from d-linemen so he could stay in rhythm with his throws. Something Aaron has been lacking for a while, especially over the middle for some reason.

He's going to be in a boot for a long time. Usually when guys have something like that or are put on IR, they aren't on the sidelines.

Depends if he learns anything from this.

Youth can give you great powers.
The only thing more dramatic than AR-to-NYJ and AR-to-IR would be Brady-to-NYJ to replace AR. Whoah Nelly!

At least this thread can now come to an end just like Rodgers season.

The NFL is less dependent on having people in the big markets watch specifically because their teams are good than MLB and the NBA, but I'm sure the league makes more money when the teams in New York and Chicago are playoff contenders (I'm not sure the people in LA care about either the Rams or the Chargers). The Giants and Bears don't look very promising and interest in the the Jets just fell off a cliff. I'm guessing Roger Goodell would not mind if Tom Brady got the itch to play again and signed on with the Jets this week. It would save the NFL from having to promote those Zach Wilson QB duels in prime time all season.

Immunization outreach in Africa?
Brady is the most hated athlete in NYJ fandom. It would be the equivalent of AR coming out of retirement to lead a Bears team that has SB hopes. Imagine hard knocks (does it continue into the regular season?). It would be an incredible media story line if he led the Jets to a SB. Bigger than if AR did. So there would be a side serving of shade too.

Rodgers is a very smart guy, but his biggest problem is that he feels he knows it all on almost all subjects and stopped listening to coaches years ago.

The dumbness of some organizations has no bottom. If AR were 50 years old and some team thought he could still play they would sign him. About the only thing I know is that the older I get the less I seem to know.
Yup, you can see that muscle in his calf all rolled up and the over-stretch of the lower Achilles. I'm really surprised he even was able to stand up and halfway walk to the sideline. In slow-mo you can see that calf muscle jump. I imagine he's going to take a long, long time to make up his mind, and it will depend on how the rehab goes. But really, if he wasn't so afraid to throw to the middle and more willing to take what the D gives him, we'd be talking today about either a Jets win or loss.
Gotta hand it to Gute a bit here, while the Jets protected their downside somewhat in the trade with the 2nd that could turn into a 1st, lets remember that the Favre trade to the Jets had a lot more contingencies:
- 4th round pick at minimum
- 3rd round if Favre played 50% of snaps
- 2nd round if Favre played 70% of snaps
- 1st round if Favre played 80% of snaps and went to SB
Gute limiting the downside to a 2nd round pick, in hindsight, was a very shrewd move.

Exactly what he was trying to do, the patented spin move he was so good at. The Brady comparison is dead on. Is it pure coincidence that he may have out-thought himself potentially into retirement?

I know a lot more than when I was in my 20s. My problem as I get is older is I forget things I should know without thinking. I believe as the mind gets older, the filing cabinet gets full and if you put something new in, something old has to be deleted. That is why I forget.

Kobe Bryant went to the FT line and made both FTs after the play he popped his Achilles on.
