It's amazing the stranglehold Rodgers has on the Jets. How would you like to be putting your hopes on a 40 year old QB coming back from a major injury? And I assume he has also destroyed their cap for next year so veteran offensive linemen could be difficult to acquire. Joe Douglas in 6 years, no winning seasons and a dismal outlook to the future.

Don't worry Joe. Just another 6 years after that and Love will become available.

Rodgers would carry a 66 million dollar dead cap charge if they had to move on after this season. Obviously, they are stuck with him.

The Jets currently sit at 230 million in cap charges for the 2024 season. The cap is at around 224 million now, so they aren't in terrible shape overall. It's mainly because Rodgers contract is so low in cap hit if they keep him.

2025 is when they are screwed. The current cap charge for a 42 year Rodgers for that year is 51 million and his dead cap is 49 million, so they save 2 million by cutting him, but won't have any cap space to replace him. It is where the Packers are at this year when they are using 40 million in cap space on Rodgers' dead money, but they had a plan to replace him.

The Jets are currently #8 in draft position. Their remaining schedule isn't awful (Texans, at Dolphins, Commanders, at Browns, Patriots) so you'd a couple of wins in there. But when you are starting Tim Boyle, anything is possible. It would be amazing if they lost enough to get into the Top 5, but even in the Top 10 they'd likely get a chance to draft Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix, or Penix. All currently have first round grades (I would guess Caleb Williams and Maye will be gone in the first 2-3 picks). Would Rodgers throw a fit if they took a QB in the top 10. You bet he would.

Really? I mean, he has to see how it worked out for GB, doesn't he? With his GM ability, you'd think he'd get it.

Rodgers is a $66M hit by himself....Now add Lazard on top of that and it increases to nearly $100M Dead money if they cut them both

To quote a phrase...... You're screwed Vaughn!

Screwed

It's DEFCON 1 for the national media on Rodgers. Can you imagine what this would be like if he'd have actually played this year and had then been in actual playoff contention.

In that clip he looks to be walking a bit stiff and uncomfortable.

I think Rodgers may have been running, in that clip.... Pass rushers are licking their chops, awaiting his return.

There's a difference between "PRACTICE??? Are we talking about PRACTICE??" vs. practicing for a live game. From the clips of him walking to him just standing and throwing, he is far from ready to face a pass rush. If he thinks he's going to play, he might as well call Allstate now to file a claim.

Allstate would not insure the Jets for his future contract for him to come back before next summer.

Aaron Rodgers needs game reps isn't a great argument to play him in meaningless games. The writer argues they need him to get reps with his current teammates. The Jets are likely to revamp the entire OL before next year anyway, so he needs to play with guys the Jets already know suck? You know that if Bakh can stand upright and wants to play another year, he's going to be playing for the Jets next year (probably for about 1 game until he needs the knee drained again).

He needs more reps with Lazard and Cobb?

Myles Garrett (December 28th) might kill him behind that Jets OL.

I remember several scold sessions admonishing all of us to be careful what we wished for when we were just wishing to be done with the never ending mysteries and vague responses.

Nothing is ever a straight answer with him.  Everything is left open for interpretation. Jets fans haven't even had to deal with the passive aggressive post game takes yet. They're going to run him out of town in an ugly way if he doesn't produce next year. He doesn't have near the good will he built up in Wisconsin.

He also needs to feel superior to other people and prove that he has access to special divine knowledge that will allow him to come back faster than the science of ordinary people suggests.

Well, has any other major sport professional athlete reached this stage of recovery from that injury this fast?  What does the data say?

Maybe it’s not Rodgers trying to prove something to y’all.   Maybe it’s y’all looking for reasons to hate Rodgers?
