The Brewers are 8-4 in the 12 games that Yelich hasn't played this year. That's a 108 win pace for whole season.

They are 53-52 in the games he's played. That's an 82 win pace.

As Trophies said, baseball is weird.

GDF’nA it is!!!

Duders, I’m dead serious that I think they might strike paydirt in an improbable way this season. So much has to go right, but so much can.

But last season, the pitching was promising and you could at least sense they could go on a run. They added Moustakas to the lineup, and Yelich caught fire. But the pitching stayed strong throughout, and Knebel came back from the minors throwing fire. Don’t see that this year.

Is it really plausible that the pitching does a complete 180 in August? I suppose anything can happen, but come on... it all started with Knebel going down, and Nelson falling apart after a year out. They just don’t have it this year. I think based on Stearns’ moves, they weren’t going to invest in this season. Shift gears, make some offseason moves to improve the starting staff, and move forward to try to get back to better baseball in 2020.

Music, I get what you are saying, but I do think it is plausible the PITCHING does flip. If we get even one of Woodruff, Chacin, Davies or Suter back in a healthy, ready for a run form, and the arms we added help, and the bats rock...?....

That’s a lot, but, could... and I mean screw WC, but take the division and everything else if they get on that train. If they just hit the gas rest of way out. Improbable but possible, and that would be insane. Been wanting these guys to take it all since my Dad took me to Game 1. Ever. That was insanely exciting, and some of the runs? Whoah. Used to play racquetball w some of the β€˜82-88 players. Damn. Wanted them to win that so bad. Now? Please. Bring it!

Maybe Hiura should play at first base?

With two errors today, Brewers rookie Keston Hiura now has eight on the season. That's just three shy of the most for any MLB second baseman even though Hiura is only playing in his 46th game.

Funny thing is Yount had about 44 errors in his year 2. He turned out alright.

How many here remember when Robin played his 1st game at 18? Man, boyagainstman. He was so skinny, a kid. He was dynamite. I’m just curious...?

dang that was fun pitching tonight by Brewers. Love watching these new guys.

I remember a little of him playing the first year, but I was 5 years old and my memories were Uecker and Merle Harmon saying his name on the radio. The first specific games I remember going to were in 1975 when I was really upset that  Mike Hegan was DHing instead of Hank Aaron.

But you are right, thinking about Yount as a teenager playing for the Brewers makes me feel really old.

BTW, I'll never forget STL being about 16 games out after the All-Star break, Brewers on cover of SI, then that dipshit Niger Morgan calls Albert Poulos a pussy. That fuKcing idiot. Of course, STL stormed all the way back afterwards to win it all...

Baseball's weird, man. This team can come back if we get some pitchers healthy and on point, and their bats come around, consistently.

You'd be the only one to not forget that, as pretty much none of it happened.

At the All Star Break, St Louis was tied for 1st with Milwaukee, spent all of July no more than 2.5 games of the lead, and in fact held 1st place outright as late as July 26th, at which point, Milwaukee then went on a 19-2 stretch. But, even then, at no point were they more than 10.5 games out.

Also, his name is Nyjer Morgan, but you knew that...

The one thing you did get correct was that they were on the cover of SI just before Morgan and Pujols had their little war of words. When he called out Pujols on 9/7/11, Milwaukee held a 8.5 game lead. And after Morgan called out Pujols, St Louis stormed all the way back to... lose the division by 6 games.

Lot of work and storytelling just to intentionally misspell the name of Nyjer Morgan...

And there it is. If Hiura makes an easy play, Albers’ strike out ends the inning. Gonzales hits a 3 run bomb and the Twins take the lead back...

Not watching the game no TV, but what happened with Hiura?

Regardless, Hader has been lit up since the all-star break. An ERA of well over 5.

Read on twitter just now that he's only given up 30 hits all year, but 13 have been home runs.

This happens with every Brewers relief pitcher (and a lot of relief pitchers). They look unhittable for a year or two and then lose it quickly (Turnbow, Axford, Jeffress, K-Rod).

Either the bullpen coach and pitching coach from last year exceeded expectations or their replacements just aren’t very good.

Just about every pitcher on the staff with the exception of Woodruff and maybe Davies has regressed this year including Hader.  Burnes and Chacin have completely imploded.

I have a lot of faith in David Stearns and Craig Counsell but would love to know why the bullpen coach was not brought back and why they let DJ go to Cincinnati.  If it was simply money that was a colossal error by the Brewers.

Counsel over coached.  Gonzalez is a better hitter from the right side.  Should’ve kept Fat Matt in.

Gonzalez is better from the right side, but he's not Travis Shaw level terrible (4 for 44 this year with one extra base hit, no walks, and 15 strikeouts) hitting left-handed. He still has some pop.

Gonzalez vs. LHP, .824 OPS

Gonzalez vs. RHP, .702 OPS

Hader hadn't pitched in 4 days. He should have been rested. I don't blame CC for this at all. If you know you are bringing Hader in for the 9th if you get out of the 8th why would you let Albers pitch to a switch-hitter? I get it maybe if it's a right-handed hitter.

Would you rather have Hader face a guy with a .824 OPS or Albers face a guy with a .702 OPS? It's Hader. Until 2 weeks ago, he was still probably the best relief pitcher in baseball.

Righthanders have a 626 OPS against him and left-handers have a 601 OPS.

I'm less worried about the move CC made than whether something is wrong with Hader. On July 31, he was at 2.25 ERA, 24 saves and 2 blown saves and had a SO/walk ratio of 96/13. Since then, he's pitched 3 2/3 innings and given up 5 ERs and 3 HRs in 4 outings.

He only threw 11 balls in a row.

I didn't watch the game. Was Hader available? He only threw 6 pitches the night before. That's a concern if CC wasn't comfortable going to him after Albers almost imploded.

During his post game press conference CC said there was no way he was going to use Hader today.

Great article on Hader.

Basically, the difference from last year is batters on jumping on the first pitch.

https://www.mlb.com/news/josh-...s-a-home-run-problem

0-0 count: .412 average, 1.412 slugging, 5 home runs
All other counts: .129 average, .298 slugging, 8 home runs

There's always a little bias to those numbers -- you can't strike out on the first pitch, obviously -- but that's a lot of damage on the first pitch, and if there is a predictability problem, it might be here. Last year, Hader threw four-seam fastballs 73% of the time on the first pitch. This year, that's up to nearly 85% of the time. Among pitchers who have faced 200 hitters this year, only two have a higher first-pitch four-seamer rate.

That's a lot of first-pitch fastballs. It makes it a pretty good guess that you know what you're getting on the first pitch, and guess what...
