It's easy to tell what the funniest movies are by the references made to them on x4:
"Animal House" ("Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?")
"Caddyshack" ("NOONAN!")
"Stripes" ("Lighten up, Francis")
"Airplane!" ("I picked a bad week to quit sniffing glue!")

Something Hyde has most of our current DBs don't is the ability to be a playmaker. He was good enough at it the Packers tried to have him on the field as much as possible. And he is/was a ballhawk
Of course, when he had to match up with guys who had actual speed, his shortcomings were quickly exposed, and, shockingly enough, the better OCs game-planned to do just that.
So guys like him can play a big role in a defense, but his supporting cast, including the pass rushers, has to be both strong and fast. He didn't have that in Green Bay...

Hyde mostly sucked with the Packers, Hayward too. No one was sorry to see them leave when they departed. Now they're Pro Bowlers. Let's not forget Julius Peppers, too. He looked finished last season, now he's an impact player again. Amazing how so many defensive players can be so much better once they leave Green Bay.

Yup. Scheme, not personnel is what that says to me.

So with that in mind, how do we know HHCD isnโ€™t a better player in a scheme that doesnโ€™t involve 35 bags of suck?

Everything can change in an instant. Everything.

Everything about this season sucks dick. All of it .

Everything but the D can change in an instant.

Looking back in a twisted kind of way, what doesn't suck is not having the opportunity to see our comet of a QB and cornerstone of a team be once again embarrassed in the playoffs at the hands of a clownshow defense/scheme.

Capers did not get stupid overnight. He was a good coach when the Packers ranked No. 5 during their Super Bowl XLV season and heโ€™s a good coach now. In a scheme that values experience in the secondary, he has lost Al Harris, Nick Collins and Sam Shields to career-ending injuries, Micah Hyde and Casey Hayward to free agency and Charles Woodson to a salary-cap decision.

This gets repeated all the ****ing time.  HHCD and Burnett are not rookies, and King and Randall looked the best of anyone back there, and they are green as grass.  I think Capers "not stupid" have been overrated for a long, long time.

The solution is simple - we will simply trade for Hyde and Hayward.  Wonder how many draft picks that will take.  The creation of a regeneration machine for Woodson is simply a science project.

Capers didn't get stupid overnight, it took a couple of years. The game has passed him by--I do think the same is true for McCarthy and Thompson...it's time to start fresh...Mike Sherman's Packers  broke franchise records for rushing in 2003 and passing in 2004, but nobody outside to the Alouettes wants him. Watch offenses pick apart Capers schemes---it's as if they have hi jacked his head phones-----On some of these poorly timed blitzes I think I see old bald headed Murphy out there---the safeties 15 yards off the line aren't giving much help to anyone.......he has driven me crazy for several years

The pressure inside 1265 to publicly address the DC situation must be mounting.  If Dom was a reasonable man, he would have announced this week he is stepping down, so the Packers faithful could at least send him off with a polite and respectful applause at tonights game. Instead, his last game at Lambeau could be riddled with negative feelings towards the man. I expect the first blown coverage will be met with a chorus of boo's.

All this when we are playing the vikings. Not a meaningless game by any stretch. Can we put pressure on Keenum? Can we stop the vikings' passing/ running games? Will our offense and defense rise to make a game of it? I think Capers relies on Aaron Rodgers more than MM does. Aaron Rodgers could always find a way to win a game. Capers can't and without Aaron Rodgers, neither can MM. I pray for a solid defensive and a good offensive game from the Packers. The players have to realize that this is the team that put their QB and their play off hopes out for the season. We need to gear up for this game. Capers had better come up with something special for what could very well be his last game at Lambeau. If not, I'll be looking at draft picks for next season and to see what the coaching and management changes at 1265 look like. GO PACK, GO!!!

Important to remember the failures on the defensive side of the ball go well beyond Dom. Good piece by Pete Dougherty on TT's poor defensive  drafting relative to the job done in Minnesota.

Why do the Vikings come into Lambeau Field on Saturday with a top defense and the NFC North title in hand, while the Packers continue to struggle just getting a couple stops a game?

The answer isnโ€™t complicated.

First, Rick Spielman, the Vikingsโ€™ general manager, has simply blown away Ted Thompson when it comes to drafting defensive players over the past seven or eight years.

I'm not about to defend TT's draft picks on defense, but to say Spielman is better at drafting?  Christian Ponder, Teddy B., and C. Patterson say otherwise.

Pretty sure the focus of the comparison was between DEFENSIVE selections and that Daugherty says that Spielman has still failed at the all important QB position.

It could be that TT's defensive picks would look better if the Pack had better defensive coaching and that Spielman's defensive picks look so good because maybe just maybe Zimmer knows how to coach them up

Sort of how like Kyle Rudolph, Thielen, Diggs, McKinnon, etc. have all looked a lot better once the Vikings decided to put Norv Turner out to pasture.

Now there is a thought. Send Dom to commiserate with Norv at his retirment place out in California about how they were both once, long long ago, highly thought of as NFL coaches.

It's called The Norvening.

Overwhelming Defensive Talent Disparity

Another piece comparing the talent on the defensive side of the ball between the Vikings and Packers and the role of the draft. Bottom line:

For the Packers to overtake the Vikings, theyโ€™ll need more than the return of Aaron Rodgers. Theyโ€™ll need a Spielman-style offseason. That means taking advantage of a rare spot in the draft order and landing a game-changing player or two. And it means coach Mike McCarthy has to find a Zimmer to run the defense.
