It's not a lack of D talent, it's a lack of preparation. It's the DC getting out-schemed weekly. It's guys persistently being in the wrong position and giving up 3rd and long situations often. The Packers D did pretty well the first two downs...3rd and long not so much vs Titans.

BPA in round 1...don't care what side of the ball he lines up on. This team has way too many needs to be mad at any position.

Pathetic soft zone pass D on third down was a joke.

GB has the players they need to be much more successful, but they are being put into the wrong situations. Barry does not know how to use the guys he has. He needs to make Rasul into a Woodson-type, use Ford more as FS, quit playing zone when your guys are better suited for a more aggressive scheme, get Walker involved more often in the pass rush, and play downhill. This zone crap has got to go... and so does Barry.

Given the number of high draft choices (RAS blue chippers) on this defense, I think they need to scheme to generate turnovers with extreme aggressiveness, not to slow the other teams progress in hopes of a mistake. Giving up a few big plays is not worse than death by a thousand cuts and the offense' difficulties means they need more possessions.

Whoever the Packers bring in to replace Barry, they need to let bring as many of his own staff as he likes...this forcing the DC to keep guys for continuity is bullshit.

Did I miss something and they already fired Barry?

Note that my avatar is from when they fired Capers.  Or was it Zook?  There's been so many bad assistants coming through that it's tough to remember which one got shitcanned when.

So who would be a good replacement? As I recall - didnā€™t they have trouble filling the role? There wasnā€™t a path of coaches breaking the door downā€¦ the guy from Denver interviewed and sconnies coach.  No fangio no namesā€¦I hear good things about fillies d line coach, but if we shit can joe- everyone on the d coaching staff should get purged too and the new guy can bring his own hires In.

I think the Leonhard ship has sailed...can you really take a risk on a guy that has never coordinated an NFL defense? He may be great. He may not. At this point you gotta go get a proven dude like Fangio or Zim Zam. Much as I hate old One-Eye, his defenses were always outstanding.

Not saying Jim would be a great NFL defensive coordinator. That's just like having a position where people are qualified, but saying you can only have the job if you have previous experience. It could be cracked but you also could be limiting yourself and excluding the best people for the job with your expectation

Two years ago I was all-in on the "risk" of JL being our DC. Two years later, Barry has been a failed attempt, so now we don't have the runway for our next DC not to work. Hiring a proven DC reduces the risk. For all I know JL may be the next Buddy Ryan of NFL DC...but the Packers can't take the risk IMO.

All the coaches are in purgatory right now. I don't know how the team can expect to hire a new DC and let him bring his staff onboard while they know a new GM may also be coming in a couple of years.
The only way that happens, IMHO, is if it is a new or younger guy with little to no experience that wants that position to get his feet wet. And that may not be the best action to take.

The challenge with LaFluer is he has to get this one right, or it's likely his last one he chooses as he'll be fired along with that new DC if he fucks this one up.

Can't go too safe (that's what he did with Barry) and can't go with a too risky either. He has to find a coordinator that can work with an abundance of talent (7 first round picks and counting) and figure out how to put those players in the best position to win.

Something Barry has failed mightily at.
