Let's face it, most NFL fan bases don't like their DC because it is damn hard to stop NFL offenses since the rules favor the offense. Mike Pettine had top ten defenses with three different teams, including his last year in GB and people still claim he was a poor DC. My negative opinion of Barry comes more from his pressers.
No matter what a team can't end up with a LB on Adams. This is a guy a defense game plans around and having a LB on him just can't happen.

Thatâs because the term âtop 10âdefense is poorly used. Top 10 in yards? Well, what about points? Or turnovers? Or 3rd down stops? Remember, the primary job of the defense is to stop the other team from scoring but the next most important function is to help the team score by giving the ball to the offense. Other things like time of possession which is tied to the metric that gives the ball back to the offense matter a lot. Eye balling the defense will often tell you whether the defense is doing this or not.

Stopping Brett Rypien from scoring more than 3 points is not impressive. If he keeps the Packers defense in the current ranking or higher after the next 4 weeks, then I'll be slightly impressed.
I don't need to be a professional DC to know that playing 12 yards off the LOS in a 3rd & 7 situation isn't going to have good results. I also don't need to be a professional DC to know that getting caught in a defense multiple times with Preston Smith covering an ALL pro WR isn't going to have good results.
FYI....this week he goes up against Matt Canada who is also a horseshit OC & the Steeler fans want that guy gone as bad as we want Bury gone.
Here's Matt's burner account on Twitter

Bury has Z-E-R-O excuses. He has the talent to be a top 10 defense against the BEST offenses. If he wants to save his job he has to prove it the next 4-5 weeks.
I've got the Steelers scoring 24 this weekend
BTW, that Twitter account for Matt Canada is hilarious. Does Ron Mexico also have one?

In Pettine's case, he was a DC for 8 years. 4 times his teams were in the top 10 for fewest points allowed (including 2019 with GB), and 5 times they were in the top 10 for creating turnovers (again including 2019 with GB). The stat that correlates highest with chances of winning an individual game, after turnover differential, is "average yards gained per pass attempt. (yards gained - yards lost from sacks / pass attempts) ...his teams were top 10 six times in this category.
Only YaYA would give a thumbs down to the Packers scoring 27 against the Steelers. What a putz.
We wanna fiddy burger against piddyburger
YAYA retains his title as the DSOBOTB.

Maybe he wants more than 27?
He can't count that high.
@FLPACKER posted:Don't look now but we are currently 10th in total defense.....
The Packers defense ranks statistically the same as last year at the same point in the season; very good vs the pass, below average vs the rush. Actually, I think the rush defense is ranked higher this year, but they are still mediocre.
True story...
There is a local Domino's I would pick up a pizza at on occasion.
One of these times was when they were busy, and everybody is focusing on their specific task, including the guy whose only apparent responsibility was choosing the right size box(es) for the order, and applying the label(s) to them.
At some point, a fly in the ointment appeared, they couldn't match the right pizza with the right order, and the manager is yelling at everybody to stop what they are doing immediately until this problem is handled.
Everybody complied... except the label guy. He could NOT be distracted or interrupted while performing his duty! And he had several impressive stacks of labeled boxes that were probably 3 feet high or better. He didn't care what anyone else was doing or not, and, to this day, I've never seen such fine label applying.
I think that would be a good job for Joe Barry.
Not sure if he would make a good label guy. Some labels for a week or so would be spot on for the box. The next batch? you never know if they will be on top of the box, on the side, or so far off of the box you have no idea what inside the box.
Pretty clear Joe B will be here in 2024 ... unless MLF is not.

Those Dominos workers are way too close to the actual action to be associated with Joe Barry. They'd be at least 10 yards away watching the action develop in front of them.
Bills fired their OC today.. That isn't against the rules?

If the Packers would have fired their special teams coach during the bye week in 2021, everything would look much different today.

I look forward to the two of them being fired together. He can rant all he wants then.

Are they moving their special teams coach to OC?

Fire them both then.
Barry is so stupid not to make Pickett beat them. He wouldnât have. Instead let them run roughshod over bout light boxes.

2 down line men? They needed 4 down linemen and 2 outside LB. Hell, if the Packers played the Eagles, Hurts would score a TD from 40 yards out on the Tush Push.

MLF can rattle on and belittle all the reporters he wants.
Bottom line? Since becoming HC, The Packers are among the worst in run defense in the entire NFL since he got here.
And it doesn't matter who's playing or who's not. He has a roster with now 8!! first round picks on that side of the ball and still can't get it done.
The Packers sit at 27th in run defense, giving up 133 yards per game so far this season.
Well mark it on the calendar. This is the exact moment I stopped defending MLF.
Agree or not, this defensive philosophy clearly isnât working. To double down on it again is almost to the level of criminal negligence. We need to clean house this offseason.
its not that berry is a crap DC...he just has a scheme that doesn't work with the team...so players are too dum to get it or can't perform it...the problem with berry is not his scheme its that he cannot adjust to save his life and cannot adapt the scheme to fit what he has...just cannot do it...if it was tecmobowl, or sega football, he would be amazing.

What I don't get about Dingle Berry's defense is that one week they are getting after the other team and the very next week they are doing nothing but playing 15 yards off the ball, chasing the offense, and are passive instead of being aggressive. If you look at all of the best defenses in the NFL one consistent thing is they are physical and will take the play to you and not be so damn passive. Its like watching a whole game of prevent defense.
If you have 8 first rounders in a position group and you are dead last in long drives against you and at the bottom in run defense every damn year it has to be a scheme that doesn't fit your players.
My fear with the DC is that they will say there has been significant improvement and they will keep him around. As for MLF I honestly would be shocked if he got fired after this season. But, IMHO his seat will be red hot going in to next year.
My biggest problem with Barry's defense is they never hand the offense a short field. Seldom a turnover and even if they stop the opponent they give up 30-40 yards and let them flip the field.

Exactly and that goes back to lack of aggression. It is putting pressure on the offense that causes turnovers and mistakes. But if you are sitting back, getting gashed by the run, and only trying to prevent big plays? not many mistakes are going to happen. I truly believe that if the defense did those things that will open up things on offense.
I'd rather have an aggressive defense that makes plays and gets turnovers. Maybe they give up a big play or 2 because they're aggressive....So ðĪŽ what!
Aggressive defenses almost always do better over the long haul.

Completely agree. I would hate it getting burned by being aggressive but that is way better than SOFT.

There were not 8 first round picks playing on defense last Sunday. The secondary was filled with bottom roster players who cannot run fit to save their lives. We knew going into the season the safeties were suspect even with Savage starting. And he ain't starting. You will have a crappy run defense if you have insurance salesmen filling roster spots.

They gave the offense 2 short fields against the Vikings
So , if Barry is let go whoâs a good choice to take his place?
Iâve heard Jim Leonhard. Who else is available that you think would be good?

We're witnessing a slow death with this defense. If they are going to give up 75 yards at least make it quick.

That's after Cousins left the game. When else have they done it?
Speaking of Cousins, after watching Dobbs play we're going to miss Kirk.
MLF needs to go, ASAP. Iâve seen enough.
