Maybe somebody knows the answer but what exactly does it take to be on the board of directors?  From what I can tell it's more like a list for Wisconsin high society, which is just a bizarre statement.  Are they just a bunch of rich a-holes that sign off on anything if they're told to?

The shareholders vote for members of the BOD. They send you a ballot with a handful of names on it. How one gets on the ballot I have no clue. I never recognize the names, so I always mark to “vote by proxy”, which I assume means you forfeit your vote and they assign seats to who they want. My impression was that it’s like any corporate BOD, it’s wealthy business owners they want to continue buying luxury boxes and sponsoring/partnering on things. Unfortunately, I think, unless Murphy was doing/did something that tainted the brand and their association then, he’s here to stay until he chooses to leave.

Awesome food. By the way, the lakes are back and the water is high. Still the best Italian food in Central WI.

Yes. I was there for the first time in years this summer (before COVID started rampaging through all the unvaccinated people in Central Wisconsin). There are now actually Two Lakes again.

Wouldn't eat there right now. A close relative just had a stroke and couldn't even stay overnight in the hospital for evaluation after they stabilized him because there were no hospital beds in Point or Wausau.

Murphy is 66 and the Packers bylaws have a mandatory retirement age of 70.

Harlan stayed on until 72 due to the John Jones issue. Harlan was slated to retire at the end of '06, with Jones scheduled to take over in '07.

Murphy was hired in '08, and officially took over in '09.

When asked about the D call right before the half in the Tampa Bay NFCCG, MLF said he was in on it, OKed the "they're playing it to get 10 yards more for a field goal," and we saw what happened.

Or maybe Pettine wanted to play for the Hail Mary and MLF overruled him....

Who knows.

These days I don't even try to figure it out, I just remember the wise words of a great:

My opinion, FWIW...
The Board is made up much like most other boards in corporate America. Mostly 'ceremonial' positions with no real clout.
I think they are largely elected for their fund raising capabilities. It sure as hell ain't for their football savvy.
Think of the years of planning it has taken for all the Titletown District stuff; acquiring properties as they become available, the construction costs, securing tenants and commitments, etc., etc. Board members aren't necessarily at the forefront of all this, but they know people that know people.
I haven't read the by-laws in forever, but I think anybody can nominate anyone for a position on the board, and it would be voted on at the annual meeting. But if you don't rub shoulders with those kinds of people, it's a snowball's chance in hell.

When you vote by proxy, you agree to let the board cast your vote per their recommendations.
When there are matters to be voted on, the information is included in the notice of the annual meeting, presenting both sides of the proposal. The board always concludes them by either recommending approval or denial. Thus, your proxy will reflect that.

That makes sense, didn’t realize they had a mandatory age. Can’t imagine Murphy is sent packing 4 years before his planned retirement.

I am a shareholder,  voted against all of them and scrawled "FIRE MURPHY" on my ballot. Mailed it in.

Take that haters !!!!

If Joe Barry is doing anything right, he’s got his defense tackling effectively. The Packers are 1st in PFF tackling grade through two weeks, by a landslide. The Packers 85.7 grade is ten points higher than the Rams in the 2nd place.

AJ Hawk was actually a pretty effective tackler. The problem was it always seemed to be about 5 yards downfield and he always seemed to get dragged for an extra 2-3 yards as well.

The most important thing about tackling efficiency is whether your safeties do well. If a LB or DL misses it's not great, but it still slows the play down for the pursuit to get there. If Savage or Amos were to miss, it's often 6 points.

It’s been two games in a new (ish) defensive scheme. Give it a couple more weeks to see if there’s any marked improvement.  If not, then hate on JB. They have some talent on that side of the ball to be good enough to keep the O in a lot of games.

I remember one of his position coaches talking about not being able to get him to trust his instincts and react quicker, couldn't get him to stop being so cautious.

Gute immediately took steps to change the dynamic on D by signing the Smiths and Amos. But then, in true Packer Front Office fashion he decided to reward a JAG like Lowry - the first head-scratcher move that made one think Gute was not too far removed from Ted's approach to the defensive side of the ball.

Steve. That’s pretty spot on and damning.

Some, yes, but the bolded statement above. Nope.

You guys think Gutey is running the show re-signing guys? You don't get it. This is Murphy and Russ BallZ re-signing shit players because "money". Winning is only important as relates to profit coming in.

Awww.....sorry guys we lost 2 NFC CG's in a row, one inside Lambeau.

You need to start and end with Murphy / BallZ ---- Gutey is just a scout and a pretty decent talent evaluator. He doesn't have any power in that FO.

Because let me tell you...if he DID have power, Rodgers would be playing in Denver this year.

This is the last post I will comment about that.

I retract my earlier statement ascribing the re-signing of Lowry to Gutey (singularly) and replace it with Front Office (plural to specifically include Ball and Murph).

I have no evidence to refute what Boris says about who is really in charge when it comes to personnel decisions in the Front Office ... and in the end I do not really care which individual(s) is/are to blame, because the Front Office collectively owns the horrific approach to fielding a defense over the past 10+ years.

I just hope before he goes we get to see Pat Fitzgerald as GM/HC.

"Front Office" is more appropriate because nobody knows WTF is going on.

If you say you've got a reliable source, no names needed, I'll believe you.  I pretty much believe it anyways.

I can't remember which writer clearly pointed out WMM in an interview/presser pretty much inferred just keeping butts in the seats with division winning teams was good enough.  So essentially if the Packers win a Super Bowl that's just gravy but not the goal.

I'm sure they are hoping to repeat the process with Jordan Love.  If Nub shits the bed, it's 80's time.

Yep. Just like people overreacted to the defense being legit after the Bears opener in 2019. I wanted to see at least 4 games to figure out if they were actually improved or just more of the same. Then ended up being better than 2018 but not that much better.

Doug Farrar has some pretty damning examples of Barry's defensive structure not making sense (line play not complementing coverage)

Packers' defense is broken

Essentially compares him to Mike Nolan in Dallas last year.  LaFleur really messed up this hire.

That is a brutal read.

When we were all grinding through all this FO/coaching staff/roster cluster last year, I posted several times "what if division championships and sled hills were the only goals".  I was kind of kidding and trying to sound clever.  But that shit is starting to sink in.  And honestly, when it comes to the general fan base, they may just be reading the room.
