@RapSheet: What kind of $$ are #Packers putting up? Agent Carl Carey says it's a three-year deal that can be worth $30M. Peppers gets $8.5M in Year 1

@adbrandt: Have to see contract, but sense Peppers 3-year deal w/GB is really "We'll buy him for this year and see about keeping him after that."

EDIT:  only $7.5 mil guaranteed.

@JosinaAnderson: Filed to ESPN: Agent Carl Carey adds Julius Peppers' 3-year deal to Green Bay is "for $30M max, $7.5M guaranteed & $8.5M in tot 1st yr sal."

Can I jump in with why the droolers will still be SO ANGRY about this?

TOO OLD!

DOESN'T FIT THE 3-4!

FORMER BEAR!

TOO MUCH MONEY!  TED SPENDS NOT ENOUGH TOO MUCH MONEY!

CAN'T SIGN OUR OWN GUYS NOW!

Wait for it...

Personally, I'm not sure what to think about this.  If he's got one good year left in him, then CMIII, Datone, Raji, Perry, Neal... oh, hell - the whole damn front 7 just got a lot better.

This has the potential to be a really good signing! The question I have is whether he will play DE or move to OLB? Seems like a lot of money to be a backup OLB and seems out of character to bench a young 1st rounder (Perry) in favor of a vet UFA. It seems odd that Peppers would sign with a team who wants him to lose weight and switch positions (OLB). My guess is that he will play DE in the base and we will see a lot more hybrid 34/43 looks. I'm guessing we see Peppers, Neal/Daniels, Datone, and Perry with Matthews at OLB (like Von Miller in Denver) and Jones at ILB in passing situations! That's a pretty nasty looking front 7!

I want to acknowledge DocBenni once again broke this story.    Is there anything we can get you Doc?  Soft drink? Water with a lemon twist? Beverage? Warm cloth?

EKB just nailed the second step!  We just found a way to pound Bear meat twice.  How about a drunken bookend to play a little harder against the Queens?

I know this sounds like a diss on the Lions as I appear to be less concerned.  Whatever.

I love this signing. $7.5 million guaranteed for three years. Great "we'll pay you if you play" contract.

This guy is a physical specimen who probably has at least one great year left in him. Whether he plays DE or OLB - I suspect he'll play mostly DE because he's nearly 290 pounds - he's going to greatly improve the pass rush and locker room.

Man. Imagine having Matthews, Datone, Raji, Peppers, Perry on the field at one time.

I'm out of the loop.

Is it because he was "released" instead of just being an ordinary FA?

Well, now don't over do it CAPF.  After all, he's now a Packer, so you can expect something odd will happen and he'll be on the injury list for a few weeks for sure.  You know, like a broken pinky instead of a thumb, etc..

If he got $8.5 in first year and $7.5 guarantee total, have to think that bonus is all or mostly up front. Dead money shouldn't be an issue.

And speaking of the cap, he's only costing GB $140k more in cap space than he is the Bears
