How Julius Peppers helped the Packers win Super Bowl XLIX

The 1996 Green Bay Packers team had a future Hall of Fame veteran defensive end acquired via free agency, who had never won a Super Bowl despite being one of the very best to have every played the position. Reggie White inspired veterans and rookies that year and helped keep the team focused on the ultimate prize which had eluded him through his long and successful career. His veteran leadership conveyed to the team just how few opportunities an NFL player gets to win the Lombardi trophy. Reggie White and the 1996 Green Bay Packers won Super Bowl XXXI.

The 2010 Green Bay Packers team had a future Hall of Fame veteran cornerback acquired via free agency, who had never won a Super Bowl despite being one of the very best to have every played the position. Charles Woodson inspired veterans and rookies that year and helped keep the team focused on the ultimate prize that had eluded him through his long and successful career. His veteran leadership conveyed to the young team just how few opportunities an NFL player gets to win the Lombardi trophy. Charles Woodson and the 2010 Green Bay Packers won Super Bowl XLV.

I little repetitive but the point hits home to me

Extra Peppers was the missing ingredient in a Super Bowl of Victory

Ted Thompson has put together a very subpar team outside of #12.  He is a very poor judge of talent on both lines and has been just average drafting the last several years.

He needs to retire.  The Pack needs to go in a different direction.

priceless

The scheme tweaks could help Worthy as well. I would be surprised if they brought Pickett back now.

Now go get a S (Ha-Ha) to compete with Hyde, and another option @ C (Linsley).

Was reading back through this thread...some good laughs, then I came across this post.

I added the bold names.

Somebody was in TT's brain. Nice job coach.

I can see Capers going with some 4-3 this year with a DL of Peppers, Raji, Daniels, and Jones, with LBs of Neal, Perry, and CM3.

Close. Stayed with the 3-4, but found ways to get Hawk and Jones OFF the field and Neal and Perry ON the field. "Benson" Guion was a nice add.

No need to restructure. They are ~ $20mm under the cap after cutting Hawk, Jones, & Bostick, and then signing Tolzien, Cobb, and Bulaga with the tenders to Richarson, Barclay, and Banjo.

Reinforces the very positive message to all players about the type of organization the Packers run.

Agree, Hungry. No need to restructure a guy who lived up to his contract with his play. If TT brings him in only to ask to restructure after one year, FAs would think twice about coming to GB. Was Peppers dominant? No, but he could be at times and he was far more than adequate the rest of the time, not to say what he taught the young guys. He lived up to his end of the deal (that is, if any of these athletes getting millions can actually live up to the $).

Keep in mind...JPep was 6'7" 290...that ain't no linebacker with the pick-6's!

Every once in a while a team is fortunate to get one of those physical freaks of nature… the player that other pros are in awe of. Packers were lucky to get two in Julius and Reggie White

Other similarities between Reggie and Peppers...
They both dealt plenty of grief to the Packers before they signed in Green Bay.
And as good as they both were, they were also on the downside of the careers.
And they both made the best use of their time while they were Packers.

It's hard to build a legacy in 3-4 years, and I think that shows that these men stood head-and-shoulders over their peers.
