Personally, I'm not sure what to think about this.  If he's got one good year left in him, then CMIII, Datone, Raji, Perry, Neal... oh, hell - the whole damn front 7 just got a lot better.

Florio at PFT says Peppers will "undoubtedly" be a 34 OLB in GB.  I'm thinking more likely a DE that can sniff the passer out.  

I want the haters to comment on this.....probably say he's too old. Can't play safety. Too gangsta.

The Packers rotate players in and out in the 3-4 so much, I don't think Peppers will even need to be an every down player....which would be good at his age.

I can't see how this move doesn't immediately improve the defense.  So many options now on the DL and it gives them more draft options too

Durable guy too... He has missed a total of 6 games in 12 seasons.  

This has the potential to be a really good signing! The question I have is whether he will play DE or move to OLB? Seems like a lot of money to be a backup OLB and seems out of character to bench a young 1st rounder (Perry) in favor of a vet UFA. It seems odd that Peppers would sign with a team who wants him to lose weight and switch positions (OLB). My guess is that he will play DE in the base and we will see a lot more hybrid 34/43 looks. I'm guessing we see Peppers, Neal/Daniels, Datone, and Perry with Matthews at OLB (like Von Miller in Denver) and Jones at ILB in passing situations! That's a pretty nasty looking front 7!

The one thing nice about this signing is it doesn't go against determining draft compensation for signing other teams free agents

We know at least two things: 1) Mike wasn't kidding about shaking up this D and 2) the Thompson debate just took the most interesting turn in the history of online comment sections.

I love this signing. $7.5 million guaranteed for three years. Great "we'll pay you if you play" contract. 

 

This guy is a physical specimen who probably has at least one great year left in him. Whether he plays DE or OLB - I suspect he'll play mostly DE because he's nearly 290 pounds - he's going to greatly improve the pass rush and locker room. 

 

Man. Imagine having Matthews, Datone, Raji, Peppers, Perry on the field at one time.

Only 7.5 guaranteed? I like it a lot better. TT rented him. If he sucks the dead money shouldn't be too bad.

A 34 year old big name free agent.  Not at all what I would have expected from TT.  

 

Like the move though, pressure up front helps all your defensive backs.

Well, now don't over do it CAPF.  After all, he's now a Packer, so you can expect something odd will happen and he'll be on the injury list for a few weeks for sure.  You know, like a broken pinky instead of a thumb, etc..

Demovsky suggesting Peppers would play Elephant End in the 3-4, a position the Packers thought Perry could play last year but didn't.

If he got $8.5 in first year and $7.5 guarantee total, have to think that bonus is all or mostly up front. Dead money shouldn't be an issue.

And speaking of the cap, he's only costing GB $140k more in cap space than he is the Bears

Always thought Peppers was the best 3-4 end in the NFL, even though he has been playing in the 4-3, but at 34, who knows?
