Well, he is a tightwad.

This is a decent signing that as far as the money goes is not a problem and it has upside with basically little downside. They got him IMO to be real good in 2014, beyond that who knows what he'll have left. They had to do something with that defense, that is obvious to all but the most died in the wool TT worshippers. And that meant spending some $$$$$$$$$$$$$

Agreed.  I think this is as much about having a experienced vet for guys like Datone.  I think the dline is going to be more attack orientated instead of block absorbers.  Raji at NT, one gap schemes.  Tweak that defense.

Could be Woodyesque.

He does have good bubble!

Is that RD1 draft pick Aaron Donald stepping down from the stepstool because he couldn't reach the roof?

No he's on his way to Keel's house to do some yard work.

Thanks for the recognition RatPack.  I would have included more info, but my source sent me a text at 1:45 this AM that I read when I woke up.  I wasn't too sure about the details at the time.

I'm excited about the the possibility of some different looks from our defense.  If Peppers has some ability left, his athleticism should allow for some unpredictability in our defensive front seven.

I like the thought of this. Bigger LBs mean they can hold the point, making it less necessary to have space eaters absorbing blocks. This may be the evolution of Capers' scheme. Neal and Peppers are versatile enough to have their hands on the ground. And there's The Psycho, as well.

Is it September yet? And hell, we haven't seen the draft haul yet.

Great point.  Reggie White was 35 in '96 when he had a great season and we won the Super Bowl.  Michael Strahan was 36 in '07 when he did the same with the Giants.  I see no reason to think why Peppers, at 34 and with his innate ability, can't do the same.

Well done Doc keep the info coming

Hmmm... low risk contract, fills a need, frees up other guys because he's a threat... I like it. TT may be going for it this year with signing Raji for a year and Peppers for a possible one. Peppers is on the downside, but when he's motivated he's still a force. He came within a Kuhn throw-yourself-at-him block of blowing up that fourth-down play. He's not what he was in Carolina, but he sure looked pretty satisfied in that photo of him in Lambeau. I think he'll like the green-and-gold.

And at that price, I like TT doing this!

Like the move. Add to this, I think we'll see a pretty motivated player when he faces the Bores X 2 as well. He's probably 25-30 snaps a game, keep him fresh, and with Raji moving back to his most comfortable position I do like this line.

Don't count Jolly out either. He seems to be recovering well and his fusion was at a level that shouldn't scare GB. Could be a hell of a rotation on the DL....

quote:
From JSOnlineThe Packers' signing of Peppers comes a day after the team signed NT B.J. Raji to a one-year, $4 million deal. The roster of linemen now consists of Raji, Peppers, Mike Daniels, Josh Boyd, Datone Jones and Jerel Worthy.

The height and weight of those linemen are 6-2, 337 (Raji), 6-7, 287 (Peppers), 6-foot, 300 (Daniels), 6-3, 310 (Boyd), 6-4, 285 (Jones) and 6-2, 304 (Worthy).

One heavy, three of anchors and two edge rushers.

Bears writer not happy with this move. From ESPN Chicago:

Packers will get a motivated Peppers

We’ve covered the fact that Chicago’s decision to release Julius Peppers on Tuesday was more about his $13.9 million base salary for 2014 and $18.183 million salary-cap hit than issues with production.

But surely the club never expected the defensive end to land with the division rival Green Bay Packers.

Peppers signed a three-year deal with the Packers on Saturday worth up to $30 million, including $7.5 million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Josina Anderson. Financially, the deal makes sense for the Packers, which begs the question of whether such a contract could've been done with the Bears.

We’ll probably never know.

According to a source familiar with the situation, that possibility was never explored between Peppers and the Bears.

Why? Well, one league source said the Bears simply didn't want to bring back Pepper

SNIP-

Make no mistake about it: Peppers’ salary played perhaps the largest role in his release. But a league source said Peppers gave the Bears only six to eight solid snaps per game, and the belief was the defense could consistently get better effort from less accomplished players.

That perception shouldn't be seen as foreshadowing for what the Packers will get in 2014 from Peppers.

Although some scouts said Peppers “didn't seem like he was into it” for a good portion of 2013, some of that could be attributed to playing on a horrid Bears defense riddled by injury, in addition to losing former defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, who is known to be a strong motivator.

After all, in 12 seasons in the NFL, Peppers has finished with fewer than eight sacks in a season just three times (2003, 2007 and 2013).

Besides that, it’s likely the Packers will get a highly motivated Peppers in 2014, caught up in the rivalry between the clubs and eager to prove Chicago made a mistake in cutting him loose.

We also shouldn't underestimate the potential power in a Peppers reunion with defensive line coach Mike Trgovac, who worked with the defensive end in Carolina during his prime (2002-08) or the fact he’ll be a complement opposite Clay Matthews instead of the focal point in opponents’ protection schemes.

Shortly after releasing Peppers on Tuesday, Bears general manager Phil Emery said, “We wish him the best.”

Perhaps the sentiment changes now that Peppers has joined Chicago’s hated rivals up north.

IIRC, Peppers at 6'7 batted I believe 2 passes against GB and did it a number of times during the season. It was frustrating as hell to watch as a Packers fan. Jolly also has had a knack for that.

May not seem like a big thing, but those kind of plays can kill a drive.

"The teams that have the good quarterbacks are the teams that win. That obviously factored into some of my decision making," Peppers told the team's website of joining Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. "I'm looking forward to playing with Aaron. As much as I disliked chasing him around, I'm excited to join him."

"That's the most important thing. I haven't won a championship. That's where my focus is. I feel like the team is set up to make a run and I feel I can help get it there," Peppers added.

Peppers: "I have a lot left in the tank."

See, the only way to play along with the Iowa inbreds and their nuthugger friends is to play their game.

Ted Thompson has put together a very subpar team outside of #12.  He is a very poor judge of talent on both lines and has been just average drafting the last several years.

He needs to retire.  The Pack needs to go in a different direction.

Now we just need the-icon to show up and predict the Pack will go 4-12, and they're a lock for their fifth Lombardi trophy.
