Perfect.

Keep him out of the Lions den.

I thought the Lions was supposed to be the #1 job available to all coaching candidates?

Lovie Smith, Wiz and others seem to disagree.

Lions fans let down.

Again.

lol way to go Mayhew you cant win even when the lions dont play. Now your stuck with losers caldwell or muchak loser. Jeez I cant believe how they let this happen if i was Ford i would fire the front office for letting this happen. Caldwel couldnt win without Manning 2 and 14 season well guess what We dont have Manning here so if he is hired expect a losing season waaaa wahhhhh

The Packers have the right to turn down interviews for a lateral position switch of an assistant HC, but its not completely verboten. Then can acquiesce if they choose to go in another direction

Kuharsky is a Titans beat writer much like Imig, Wilde, Silverstein, etc... are for the Packers.

Just heard Winston Moss (ILBs ) and Clyde Christensen (QBs ) are possible Whiz coordinators.

From Wilde's Blog

If Moss's contract expired this year the Pack cant stop him from leaving. Also, They can OK an interview and let him leave IF he's under contract or deny it.

Personally, I dont see that Moss did anything special with our ILB's so have been confused about any interest in him by other teams. He seems more like a trusted confidant to MM than an exceptional position coach, JMHO.

yikes, thats a terrible hire for Detroit.

he was 12-52 here at WAke Forest and ~.500 with the Colts.

how does that guy get a head NFL gig?

I'll play devil's advocate here: I don't think Caldwell is as bad as some of you may think.  He was the unfortunate coach for the "Suck-for-Luck" regime which did him no favors with a washed up Kerry Collins and low draft pick Curtis Painter.  The Colts obviously struggled without Manning, but the Packers were looking pretty poor without Rodgers until they tried their 3rd backup in Flynn.  Not having a capable QB can doom any team (see Minnesota).

With the Lions, Caldwell will have a decent QB, decent RB, the best WR in football, an up-and-coming TE, and a stout front 7 on defense.

He's terrible.  He was head coach of a team that was 14-0 and decided to kiss a 16-0 campaign goodbye.  Their reasoning was that they only cared about winning Super Bowls.  They didn't win the Super Bowl that year either, so a lot of good it did them.

The next year they were playing the Jets, again, in the playoffs.  Jets were driving late for a winning field goal.  They had the ball around the 35 or 40 yard line and ran it up the middle, settling for a long field goal try.  At the time the Jets had 1 timeout left.  So they were going to let the clock run down and kick a 50+ yarder to win it.  Surely no gimme.  Caldwell calls timeout!  That allowed the Jets to run a legit play, they had like a 20 yard pass and the long field goal turned into a chip shot and the Colts lost.  It was one of the bigger coaching blunders I have ever seen.  Just mind numbingly stupid.

Plus he had a horrible record as a HC at Wake Forest, as someone already mentioned.

There must be something else going on with the Lions that with the list of people available they had to settle for Jim Caldwell.

Caldwell is a bad fit for the Lions job for the exact reason given by JJSD:  A laid-back players' coach is the wrong choice to instill discipline and change the culture of a talented-but-underachieving team like Detroit.

Thanks, Detoilet!

No kidding. I think an authoritarian, no nonsense type guy is what is needed. Someone needs to get the asylum in order, and I don't see Caldwell as being that guy.

He's not walking into a team led by Peyton Manning this time.

Perfect hire for the vikes

Mike Zimmer coached the bungles to 4 consecutive one and done playoff appearances and now will take his "success" on the road to the vikes who lost four  Super Bowls

Success begets success, suck begets suck

Leaves the AFC chokers for the NFC chokers - what a resume !

The Browns have given Ray Horton permission to talk to other teams even for a lateral move.

Mike Zimmer: "EITHER YOU DO IT %$*^% RIGHT OR BY GAD I'LL $^#$&$# GET SOMEONE ELSE WHO WILL!!!!!!!!!" (looks around at Vikings QBs) *Facepalm* "Never &$#@&$@$& mind, I need a drink."

I think Zimmer is a pretty good DC, and the story about his wife was heart breaking.  Who knows if that will translate to HC, only one way to fine out.  But I think the Queens needed to look for an Offensive coach, they have some playmakers, and have the HC use those pieces.  A DC for the Queens is a bad move, which I am OK with.
