Red zone play selection (and performance) this year is quite an indictment of McAdoo.

Seems like McAdoo is angling to get out of town given his contract is up.  Maybe it makes sense to move Van Pelt to QB coach if McAdoo leaves.  The offensive design has really stagnated these past few years.  I don't know if that's a McCarthy thing, the promotion of Clements, or what, but Rodgers is throwing into tighter windows than other QBs.  It is more often than not that our WRs get little separation.  I think some fresh persepective and a new face is needed if McAdoo leaves.  I doubt MM will shake up O-staff there otherwise.

Because watching the Tedford and Manziel relationship blow apart team chemistry is desireable?

Sure, Cal, by the time Manziel grows up you'll probably be looking for a new coach again. Manziel could be a talent, but the warts at this point require a really strong hand to keep him in line. They may want to look at the Cowboys and the babysitting plan they had in place for Bryant...

Wow,  things are looking brighter for you since This thread

With Dalton as his QB, Gruden had to strike while the iron was hot. His stock will only go down and this is an opportunity to show he's more than Jon Gruden's brother and the guy who once benched his QB and put himself in as the QB (in the arena league).

Put together a bunch of big names, not considering how well they may work together, draft a smurf QB, and in 2 years will whine because the Sucaneers still suck.

Yup, hired because Snider has heard of the Grudens. Dude is playing fantasy football with that franchise.

Not the coaches fault that Dalton & the Bengal offense can't stop turning the ball over.

That's the only way the Chargers beat them & that's exactly what they did

Not sure if it's been mentioned elsewhere or belong elsewhere, but Alonzo Highsmith is now up for consideration for GM for the Dolphins. I guess it makes sense, but wish other organizations would leave our office folks alone for awhile. linky

Not Gruden's fault? I thought coaches were ultimately responsible for the product on the field no matter what? Either Gruden should have prepared his players better, he should have developed his players better, or he should have developed a scheme more in tune with the modern nfl.

Nice breakdown by Brandt on coaches and firings, insight on Rhodes and Shermanator's demise.

I agree with the one of the comments on the story it was a very interesting story then just stopped. It really left me wanting more. As short as the story was it sure explained a lot.

Well, you may be right about Manziel taking a while to grow up...I don't know, something just tells me that teams will regret not taking Manziel.  I don't know of anything that he has done off-field which affected his ON-FIELD performance...

I see a guy who is smaller in stature but I see an intense competitiveness and I like that about him.

Make no mistake, Cal, I think the guy has some talent and competitiveness, but I think he's far less mature than, say, Wilson who had the demeanor to be good immediately. There's a lot of questions around Manziel: can he learn to really read NFL defenses immediately and not count on his running around to make a play? Will he settle down off the field enough to put in the film and study time he needs to really succeed in the NFL? Can he learn to make plays from the pocket consistently? Over time I think he will, provided he doesn't end up like RGIII.

At least he hired a football guy with name recognition.  Word in DC is he tried setting up interviews with Joe Torre, Jerry Sloan and Jacques Demers.

I agree about Whisenhunt being a scary hire for the Lions, all he seemed to miss was a QB in Arizona.  Not that i believe Stafford is a GREAT Qb but if anybody can fix him I think it could be him.

Solidfy the DLine and upgrade ILB and S and I will not be as worried.

Whisenhunt to the Titans.

Perfect.

Keep him out of the Lions den.

I thought the Lions was supposed to be the #1 job available to all coaching candidates?

Lovie Smith, Wiz and others seem to disagree.

Schefter and Mortensen report that the Lions have moved on to Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell and spent the day in talks with him for their vacancy with Whisenhunt’s predecessor in Tennessee Mike Munchak “still alive” in both Detroit and Cleveland.

Lions wanted Whisenhunt badly. Swing and a miss...
