In my opinion the front office was stuck between a rock and a hard place last year. Remembering the furor that ensued over getting rid of a semi washed up Favre I can't imagine the pitchforks and torches that would have descended on 1265 if they traded away a HOF qb with a winning record who was just named MVP. Past history could not have warned them of this regression.

A year too soon rather than a year too late.  This is what happens.

Speaking of the Love (or post-AR) era, Murphy's mandatory retirement will largely coincide with that, so there will be many changes that occur at the same time.
JMHO, any decisions about MLF, Gute, or team operations won't happen until the new President is in place.
I don't know if there will be a major shake-up in executive management, or if some responsibilities will be re-shuffled among them. I do hope the new guy will be much less "hands-on" than Murphy no matter what happens.

Let us hope Gurty's "instincts" about QB are better than they are about WR. I'm not buying that he will automatically be a better QB in this system than Rodgers because he will "run the plays like MLF wants them run."

When MLF got here, we were told they wouldn't be using shotgun much because so much of the effectiveness of his offense is predicated on play action passing.

Thus far this season, the vast majority has been out of the gun, and we've had zero PAP. Some assume it's because 12 doesn't like being under C. Others assume it's because the OL is hot garbage and he needs the extra 2 seconds to stay upright.

If they keep insisting on being in gun this week, we will see similar results. Bad week to have to draw that line in the sand given Buffalo has a pretty stout pass rush. But it is what it is...

AR on McAfee show today talked about the mental mistakes that both he & MLF have been alluding too. Talking percentage of plays on which at least one player made a mental mistake, he said β€œIn the past, we’re looking at like less than 10%, so it gives us a really good chance to be successful,” Rodgers told McAfee. β€œTwenty percent, that’s too high. That’s one play a series where you’re really making it tough on yourself. We’ve got to fix that. And whatever that is, I think guys who are making too many mistakes shouldn’t be playing. Gotta start cutting some reps, and maybe guys who aren’t playing, give them a chance.”

He's been in the gun so much because of the injured thumb.  Taking snaps from under center has apparently been too painful.

Well, using ARs analysis maybe Love should get some snaps.  He’s been far from elite.  In reality,  he’s been about as mediocre as it gets.  And he’s making 50M a year.

Please retire or ask for a trade in the offseason.

Rodgers also said that Clements gave him his highest grade of the season in the Wash game.

If that's the case, I obviously know nothing about football.

There is a fan "know" of football, but then there is a coaches / players "know" about football. There is so much going on out there that we just don't have knowledge of. The footwork, technique of every position, why a play is called, formations / personnel groupings & what they are designed to accomplish, what is done to get a blocking / or tackling match up that favors you, what receivers and QB are supposed to be reading, etc. .... I always come back to a story that John Madden used to tell....Madden was already a successful Junior College coach and went to a coaching clinic featuring Vince Lombardi. He thought he knew a lot about football and sat in the back. Lombardi talked for 8 hours on ONE play (Packer Sweep) ....Madden said he came out of there thinking "I don't know a damn thing about football". For myself, as a basketball coach I had watched hundreds of Syracuse basketball playing their 2-3 zone defense, but had been mainly a Knight / Coach K disciple of man-to-man. Later in my career I had a long, very athletic team, and my assistant suggested we look at the 2-3 zone. I found the instructional videos, rules of the zone, and we did quite well with it. Now when I watch a SU game I can identify mistakes being made defensively, that before teaching it myself, I would never have known.

Well the only WRs who haven't played much are Rodgers, Winfree, & Toure ....Lazard didn't practice today & Watson was limited. Going to be interesting to see who will be on the field for us Sunday night. I only ask that they don't send Watkins on anymore fly patterns down the sideline .... I know he got held, but god, it looked like there was a piano on his back.

Rodgers' comment about limiting some guys' snaps sounds like he's showing the coaches who's the boss. And if he doesn't get his way, what happens then? The FO capitulated to Rodgers' demands to bring back Cobb, gave Rodgers the big-money extension, etc., and MLF lets him choose on RPO plays, lets him get away with the bad body language, etc. Right now, Rodgers is holding all the cards and everyone is scared of setting him off. They put too much stock in and gave too much power to one guy who was too near the end of his career.

Hasn't Winfree been called up 3 times already?

Tauscher opined that Rodger's comment was maybe more toward Gutekunst to get vet help than it was a shot to the rookie WRs.

Now there is speculation that Packers are in talks to obtain AJ Green.

Then there is this interesting take.

If you are going to trade for AJ Green at this point, you might as well consider pulling Jordy Nelson out of moth balls. They'd have the same effect on the Packers' chances for success and Green is only 3 years younger than Jordy.

As funny as it sounds, I think the Packers are desperate for WRs to the point they're rushing the ones with injury back to the lineup.
I thought it was fairly clear Watkins wasn't ready, and I doubt Watson has had a miraculous recovery. I just imagine there is a lot of pressure on the doctor, the trainers, and the players to "do whatever it takes".
I guess a warm body is better than no body?

That goes all the way down to each play and each player.  WR for example, because I was at a clinic once while playing D3 ball - there are videos of this out there somewhere too.  A WR, on top of having to read a D and the guy in his face, has a repertoire of moves he uses to run his route.  Some of these moves are false and are intended to deceive the DB covering him, others are simply used to get him from point A to B or C or D, etc.  The subtlety and choreography of some of the routes guys like Davante Adams run are nothing short of ballet/tap dancing at 100mph, all while making adjustments on the fly.  Now imagine being the CB dealing with all this.  A head tilt or a shoulder dip, outside foot pointed forward vs out, number of steps at the snap.  It's kind of ridiculous.
