You realize he's in his second year on a Bears team, yes?  To not see his progress since last year would take some immense obstinance.

Progress being a RB? Yes. Progress being a QB? No. I have the Bears game on my other TV most Sundays (mostly for comedic value) but this year he seems to have a run first mentality or throw a 5 yard dump off.

I've gone back and forth about this, and my conclusion is that it doesn't matter. My belief is that unless he retires, Rodgers isn't going anywhere.  His contract seems to be a big problem in trading him and after this season, there are limited teams who may want him.  I agree, that AR doesn't sit unless AR wants to sit.  Right or wrong, that's the reality.  The Packers most realistic option is to run it back with AR next year.  I think they could move Love, but his trade value is minimal.  I don't think it would be too hard for them to not pick up his 5th year option and yet sign him to a friendly contract.  Sure, some other team could offer more than the Packers, but I can't imagine many if any teams are scrambling to pick him us as a starter given he hasn't shown anything,

I was pushing for Love to take over the team this pre season before camp started. I never thought Rodgers was going to get that huge contract. I thought sure a trade was in the works and we were going to get several draft picks from the deal. Then, we could go to FA to find a QB or we'd draft a back up QB, with the draft capital we gained by trading Rodgers. Now, that option is long gone! At any rate, I think Love may have a better connection with the young receivers than Rodgers does. If we lose one more game with Rodgers as QB, I think it is time to play Love. Rodgers won't like it and will remind us of Brent Favore, as he skewers the Packers' front office and our cap situation by retiring.  Russ Ball won't be able to bail us out of that one.

Given our front office, I doubt that happens. But I understand your frustration. I expect that Rodgers plays his last year after this season, Jordan Love gets his extension and the team then moves on. Rodgers moves into the ring of honor, and we struggle from then on.

Love definitely looked like he still has a ways to go in watching him in preseason.  He definitely should be allowed to sink or swim if Pack is eliminated from playoffs.

While he hasn’t looked good so far, he’s still pretty young and raw and maybe a little bit of playing time could help him turn a corner if he’s got it in him.

I certainly hope they can get Rodgers on board with that but β€œhe’s a complicated fella” so who knows how he’ll handle that type of request.

Report: Aaron Rodgers has avulsion fracture in thumb

Rodgers himself first disclosed that the thumb is broken, in the days after he heard boos following a pair of bad throws in the fourth quarter of the loss to Tennessee. Now, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Rodgers has an β€œavulsion fracture.”

Rapoport writes that the injury is β€œserious enough that surgery is almost always the answer to fix this type of injury.” He also says that an avulsion fracture β€œcauses the ligament to rip away from the attachment, taking some bone with it.”

I don't think this is true for the type of injury, but certainly can be for the severity of the fracture.

What an absolute embarrassment for the front office.

They have so much faith in β€œthe future of the franchise” they traded up to get, offered a fully guaranteed contract, and red shirted for an entire year… that when 12 went down with a broken thumb they… refused to let him play against the Redskins and Jets to let the thumb heal to avoid making it worse… and instead kept him on the bench.

That’s the perfect cap to this season. If you’re not going to use him when 12 has a broken thumb that need to heal, you’re never going to use him. Take the Loss of your pride and football draft smarts and get rid of him and get a real number 2 you have faith in actually using when needed.

A certain former QB had two different thumb injuries; 1999 (a sprain, happened in PS and played hurt most/all of that year), and had Hasselbeck as a backup.
And 2003 a fracture that happened in week 7, finished the last 9 games + 2 playoff games, had Doug Pederson and the infamous Craig Nall as backups.

In both cases, apparently a banged up QB was a better option than the backup, so I imagine the same is true today.

This year is shot; give Love his chance. Let him get his feet wet now so next year he can hit the ground running. Send Rodgers to the bench this year (perfect excuse with oblique and thumb and no loss of face), and find a way to show Rodgers the door at the end of this year. How about a buyout if need be? Can they do that?

Nope.

The FRONT OFFICE F''d up royally by paying Rodgers a king's ransom this past offseason instead of trading him for multiple 1st and 2nd round picks and players.

Now, next offseason, they will have to eat his salary in order to get a 3rd rounder back from some other team.

it is time.  there will not be a better time.  it is time.  12 on ice, and 10 starts the rest of the year.  if that doesn't happen, there is deeper issues at 1265 - ribs and a ripped up thumb on the throwing hand, come one guys get a set and sit 12.

Yep, it's a pretty easy call. Let Love have the Bears game. I know it means a lot to Rodgers and his ownership of said Bears but no reason to go out there if you are banged up and playoff chances are slim to none.

That would give Rodgers 3 full weeks off. If you beat the Bears then you re-evaluate after the bye and decide if you ride out the season with Rodgers or just put him on IR and let Love finish it out.

After re-watching all of Love's snaps vs Philly, I am firmly on the "trade Rodgers," bandwagon and get what you can for him.

This team likely isn't a year away, and two years away may be a stretch.

Get a new DC, go get some real fucking weapons to compliment Watson and Doobie. You are going to lose the "wow" throws we've become accustomed to with 12...but you are also going to lose the "fuck it," throws where in the attempt to make something good happen, something bad happens.

You are going to lose a signal caller, who by all accounts is smarter than the guy calling the plays, but you are also going to lose the baggage that comes with that.

Love may not be the future of the Packers QB legacy...but he deserves the chance to try and make it happen. He might be the next Daniel Jones, but he might also be the next Joe Burrow. Time to find out.
