I keep hearing (incorrect) claims that Rodgers' $59.5M guaranteed salary & option for 2023 is driving the huge dead cap figure if Rodgers is traded. Wrong - Rodgers could be paid 1Β’ next year and still has $40.3M dead cap. Nothing to do with his future pay, it's his past pay.

But, but, but Murph has a coupon from Kroll's....and he's got a sledding hill!!!

I was one of us that said Love was hopeless, bad draft choice, etc ,etc . I would like to say now I was wrong. What changed my mind was when he had to come in for the injured Rodgers. Love looked way better than the last time or two he had played. Good accuracy, nice spiral, light on his feet. He did not look the same at all to me. I think he upped his worth to any team including us greatly. Just wanted to say that, thanks.

For me on the draft day Love was taken, I thought that maybe Gute thought Rodgers was becoming injury prone and wanted someone who could play behind him.  Also, when the pick was a QB I looked and sure enough - the Vikings passed on him twice.  That to me said future HOF.  AR took a couple years getting ready to play as the starter.  In year 3 he got a chance against Dallas and played well.  In year 4 he was the starter but we complained he held onto the ball to long.  One of the enduring facts about sports fans is we are never happy.  When Love was taken I liked the pick.

Watching MLF's reaction on draft night, I thought that he had convinced Gute that they needed a QB who would run his offense and not fight him on some of the staples of it as AR had that first year (motion / QB turning his back to the defense). As MLF matured I think he came to realize that when he had that QB in Tenn. (Mariota) they were 25th in total offense and talent beats scheme. He and AR met halfway and that changed his mind about replacing him.

I saw it more as AR realizing that he’d better start running MLF’s offense or his days in GB were numbered. I also believe that MLF’s reaction to drafting Love told AR that MLF was tired of his shit and willing to do something about it.

Still not sold on 10.  We've seen many lesser-drafted backup QB's come in in a pinch and look really good only to fade down the stretch when pressed into starting.  The most I got from his play vs. PHI was that there was still hope vs the very mediocre evidence he had shown up to that point.  And we're kind of back to square one in not knowing if he can be a franchise QB.  Which is better than knowing he can't-maybe.  But the only way to find out is to start him, which won't happen unless AR is gone.

I went back and watched the games Love has played.  The Chiefs game, a half against Detroit with scrubs in, and Eagles.

vs Chiefs:

We should have won this game.  The end score was 13-7 and Love got us into field goal range twice but we missed both of them.  Should have been 13-13 minimum.  We also muffed a punt which gave KC the ball at our 9 yard line.  If special teams doesn't shit the bed, we win that game.

Love actually didn't look horrible in the game.  His worst passes were lobs over defenders to the flat.  He had one bad throw for an INT, and KC brought pressure all day which caused problems.  But he got us into scoring range 3 times and it should have been enough for us to win or at least put us in OT.  His QB rating was the same as Mahomes that day.

vs Detroit:

We were down 13-24 in the middle of the 3rd when Love comes in.   Love brings us back and we're up 30-27 with 4 mins to play.  Detroit then scores and we are now in our 2 min drill and marching down the field for the win.  And then Amari attempts to catch a pass and it bounces off his hands and it's an INT.  This is another game we should have won and Love put is in the position to do it, but again bad plays by others did us in.

vs Eagles:

I think most people are familiar with this one, but what was interesting to me, besides how good Love played, was he could have brought us back to win this one too.  We are down 23-37 when Love comes in.  We get the TD to Watson to make it a one score game.

Philly drives the field and we miss a tackle on 3rd and 3 that would have gotten us the ball back.  Instead Philly eventually hits a very long FG.  Love again drives the field and with 1 min left tries to hit Cobb in the end zone but Cobb is hit before the ball gets their and it's incomplete.  Should have been called PI there but wasn't.

If the defense makes the stop on 3rd and 3 and there isn't PI (or it is called) the score would have been 37-37.

Many games seem to come down to one or two plays (even with AR at the helm), but *all* of the games Love played in we had the opportunity to win.  They were not blowouts.  He came from behind in all of them to make it a game. While he did make some mistakes, the majority of the reason we lost all those games was not because of Love.  He put us in a position to win each of them, and instead we shit the bed in other ways.

Semantics question…wouldn’t we be down β€œ24-13?” Much like anyone over the age of 12 shouldn’t wear a team jersey, one should never give the lesser score first when giving scores. Also, never start a land war in Asia.

Probably, but the Packers always come first in my mind.  I also wrote "their" instead of "there", so you missed that one.

James Alexander Gordon would like a word with you.

(If that isn't cued up properly, fast forward to 2:03.)

Welp.

As we all know, the FRONT OFFICE not only did not trade Aaron Rodgers after the 2021 season for a trove of draft picks, it signed him to a huge, new deal essentially tying the franchise financially to #12 for at least 2 more seasons.

After sitting Jordan Love for essentially the entire season, what do folks think is up for our favorite football team at QB in 2023?

I don't care if they suffer the dead $$$. Just get rid of Rodgers. Even if he went somewhere else and did well, it's worth it to not go through the pissy drama all year 'round. I'm tired of the schtick and all the attention paid to him.

Second, this D is too talented to play this badly. Barry can leave as well.

Third, MLF has to grow a pair. Maybe this will help him, maybe getting rid of Rodgers helps everyone step up.

If it was just about poor QB play I’d be optimistic about the Love era. But this team is broke dick in many, many areas.

Yes. This is what a Packers offense looks like when the QB is just good, not great. Rodgers was not MVP-level this year, but he was not terrible other than the first Lions game.

Their OLs and DLs got dominated tonight. Just like against the Niners in the playoffs last year. Just like against the Bucs in the playoffs in 2020. Just like against the Niners in the playoffs in 2019. The right side and middle of the Packers OL was completely dominated tonight.

THe combination of Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers covered up a lot of warts.

The front office needed to add another WR like Christian Watson about three years ago. They didn't do it until Adams was gone.

How many Packer fans are excited about the prospect of a Gutey adding an 8th 1st round pick to play for a mediocre defense in the upcoming draft?

The problems on this team, assuming the goal is to compete for a Super Bowl, are deep and cannot be rectified in one offseason.

The Packers should have gone ALL IN in 2020 and 2021 but did not, should have ripped the Rodgers bandaid off and traded him in 2022 but did not (and instead extended him), and now find themselves in 8-9 purgatory while up against the cap with a 40 year old declining QB.

Good thing all those FRONT OFFICE extensions were handed out like hotcakes last offseason.
