I'm interested in the terms of the Bennett deal.  Heading into FA, Bennett made it clear that he wanted to get paid.  That makes me think that it was for a decent chunk of change and multiple years.  That's fine with me - I would like to see Rodgers have the opportunity to develop long term chemistry with a stud TE.

Bennett is going to be a beast playing with Rodgers.  This should be fun to watch.

Would love to see Cook back but seriously, he is stiff and has terrible hands.  Probably a dozen second stringers around the league who could come in and replicate what he did.  I know there's not much love for Rich Rod around here but I think he would be fine carrying the position if needed, not much drop off there at all.  Not as fast but much better hands.

We were MUCH better when Cook was in the lineup. There are not "a dozen second stringers" who can threaten the seam like he can.

Only one I can think of, personally. Martellus Bennett.

You called it, Goalline!

I think this has to bring Cook's price down, right?

What scares me about bennet is he does have an attitude. Our offense, Lang aside (likely gone,)  is soft in personality and physicality. He just doesn't seem to fit the mold of the locker TT built.

However, if, we could have Bennet and Cook together, it'd be the most lethal TE group since Gronk and Hernandez, with a better QB than they had. JMO

Wow I did not see that coming.  He's a better player than Cook.  Maybe not quite as good as a downfield threat but he's better in just about every other facet of being TE, especially blocking.  And I've read a lot about the Bennett brothers lately and it's not that either have a bad attitude, but that they are quirky.  Not all coaches and locker rooms deal with that well but I think he'll be fine in Green Bay.

And if Bennett is getting $6m per year, that puts Cook in the $4-5m that I was expecting.  My guess is Cook and his agent got greedy, assuming that TT wasn't negotiating with any other TEs since TT never signs free agents.  Oops.

I was channel surfing today before the hoops games and there was a talking head out there who was saying he thought Cutler has always gotten a raw deal in terms of the teams around him.  I almost spit out my drink hearing that.  I guess Cutler does have one person left in the world that still believes in him, but wow, I think the only way you sign him is if you have 2 QBs get hurt and you decide to tank your season.

MARTELLUS BENNETT?

The Green Bay Packers have signed former New England Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Former Patriots TE Martellus Bennett is signing with the Packers, per source.

A Super Bowl champion with the Patriots last season, Bennett is now headed to Green Bay to be a replacement for Jared Cook - who was unable to agree to a new deal with the Packers.

Bennett, 30, caught 55 passes for 701 yards and seven touchdowns over 16 games with the Patriots last season.

I think this team needs a little more personality and swagger.  Too many nice guys.

Love this signing. Just love it. I agree that Bill beat Ted to him last season, but Bennett ain't stupid. Anyone who saw Rodgers play down the stretch last year know he's probably the best combo QB ever (brains plus physical talent and drive).

Agree about personality and swagger. Clay being the poster child, Rodgers has even more swagger. But this team needs it in it's playmaking positions and Martellus has just that extra bit of edge and muscle, because he can back it up on the field. He's a Swiss Army Knife guy, too. A big one.

As for him being a head case, well playing with Jay Cutler will do that. He didn't cause Brady any problems. And now he's playing with a just-as-demanding, even better QB. HUGE upgrade over Cook and I was a Cook guy for what he brought to this offense, even before he took one snap.
