I'd pay Perry, but only because I have no idea if Elliott or Fackrell will make the jump. Also, I don't know if it is players or plays, so Dom Capers sucks®.

I would say its players not plays and agree that I would pay Perry the good OLB starter money.  But then I am not Ted.

I like his resume better than Scott McCurley's...

McCurley holds the distinction of having the last interception and field-goal block in Pitt Stadium, which closed after the ’99 season, both achievements recorded in a 37-27 victory against Notre Dame. That same season, he earned a spot on the Big East All-Academic football team and graduated in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in movement science with a coaching minor.

McGurgle at least has successfully played and coached ILB in his career at some level. I wonder if they're interested in Hardy Nickerson Jr. at all, probably would be a good UDFA pickup.

I don't think Thompson will franchise Perry but it wouldn't be a shock if he did.  Who is the next best free agent OLB after Perry with Ingram and Jones off the board?  Maybe James Harrison who will turn 39 prior to next season?  John Simon who has totaled 13 starts and 10 sacks in his four NFL seasons?  IMO Peppers is as good as anyone who would be left which is why it might not be a bad idea to give him a 2 year deal if Ted isn't willing to throw big money at Perry.  With the way the market looks now I can't imagine Perry's agent being content to sign any deal less than 10 million per season before the start of free agency.  Always a chance when he gets there teams might be scared off by his injury history and he won't get the huge offers, but his agent will likely be shooting for the moon now.

I'd be perfectly happy to take all Perry's money and throw it at a cornerback instead but if history has shown us anything it's that Ted will use that money on Perry OR Ted will be happy to get the third pick back after losing Perry and figure out what to do with the money later (likely roll a big chunk of it into the following year's cap).

So what does an Offensive Perimeter coach do?

He's the guy who coaches the guys who protect the area around where the offense practices - making sure no one is video taping the signals.  I'll bet he gets paid Nick Perry type money too.

I'd rather have this guy:

Chiefs to release Jamaal Charles

He's the kind of low risk/high reward deal that TT tends to make (aside from the Peppers/Woodson deals which were high risk/high reward). Charles won't command big dollars and if he stays healthy I think he could be a great tandem back with Lacy (who won't command big money either). If he doesn't stay healthy then they won't get burned for big dollars.

No chance.  Even looking past the injury issues and age, he made it very clear in 2015 that he has no interest in playing in the shotgun.  Throw in poor receiving and pass blocking plus the off field stuff, and I can't think of a worse fit for the Packers.

I'd be interested in Charles but something tells me he'll get too much money on the open market from a team like Jacksonville, Cleveland or Denver.

EDIT: First paragraph is referencing AP.  Sorry, did not make that clear.

I'll pass on AP, thank you. AP is the biggest whiffer when it comes to sticking his nose into a LB's chest to block, which could get Rodgers killed. Not only that, over 10 seasons he's caught 241 passes for a total of 1,945 yards. And he's fumbled 39 times, losing 23. With him, it's all about me, me, me. No thank you, no thank you, no thank you!

Peterson will be 32 later this month. No thanks, for this and other reasons stated.

Charles is now 30, and has lots of mileage on his body. No thanks.

Packers likely to go with some mix of Lacy, Monty, Crockett, Rip, draft, UDFA, hell even Michael could be back.

the GBP will know better than me but I've heard Michael is bit of a blockhead and it did appear to take him a while to get up to speed and get on the field in a very limited capacity only to get confused and screw up.  not holding my breath there.

Charles has a lot of mileage, but depending on health he's still a better RB than any of the ones you listed. Also depending on the cost he could be a really good investment. All I know is that this season without Lacy reminded me of the time BEFORE Lacy when we were struggling to field any semblance of a running game and it was scary...hinking back to the seasons where we thought we could make due with a RB by committee and any old Dujuan Harris/Brandon Jackson/James Starks/Alex Green would be fine. I like Monty and Rip, they're fine players, but they're not featured backs. Lacy is a legit #1 even at 325 lbs.

Touche! KidBeaterson will get AR12 killed.

Here's tweedle-dee and his partner tweedle-dum opining on what MM really meant in his presser today.

Their latest theory is that MM was in Indy and sending a message to Ted.

http://www.packersnews.com/vid...mccarthy-takeaway-he's-pushing-front-office/98594852/

Which is rather hilarious (in a dumbass sort of way) since MM and TT work 9 feet from each other in GB and speak daily.

Nagler has it all figured out. Riveting reporting .  MM flew to Indy to send messages through the press to his boss. What an effing maroon.

MM is indeed sending messages, but they aren't intended for Thompson.

I still like Darren McFadden as a fit ahead of any of these other running backs.  Would be dirt cheap on a one year deal (probably only cost about 1.5 million), didn't get that much work last year because of injuries that don't figure to impact his 2017 performance and is only two years removed from a 1000 yard season.  Not a special player, but a solid cheap veteran to team with Montgomery and a rookie mid-round pick.  He might even be so cheap signing him would cancel out losing someone like Datone Jones or Don Barclay which means adding McFadden wouldn't impact the compensatory pick formula for the possible losses of Perry, Lang, Hyde, Tretter, etc.

Peppers

I'd like to have him back.  The vet presence and he is still a really good spot player at this point.  I'm curious if he's waiting to see what happens what happens on defense in the offseason before making a decision.

I personally think both Randall and Rollins are legit CBs and will make the jump sans injury.  Another smart vet presence at CB and hopefully hit on a couple of draft picks and the defense could be respectable.  At least top half of the league.  Or one hopes.

I think you guys are nuts about RB additions.  They'll sign Eddie and defense needs the resources.

There's the rub. Health.

30, going on 31... Charles has been injured and was limited to just 12 carries for 40 yards last year and just 71 carries for 364 yards the year before.

26, going on 27... with significantly fewer touches... Lacy was given a 4-6 month time frame for recovery after the surgery.

good stuff Henry, I'd be thrilled to have Julius back for another season. My guess is that GB and Peppers have had talks, but they told him to hang back while they work out the Perry deal and see what the draft brings.

There's mutual interest, they'll get er done. He can essentially skip TC and save his body for later
