Everybody and their mother seem to have a mock draft. Here is a list of some of the "experts" and their picks for the Packers at #14.

  • Charlie Casserly - Central Florida CB Mike Hughes
  • Mel Kiper - Marcus Davenport EDGE Texas-San Antonio
  • Todd McShay - Josh Jackson CB Iowa
  • Pete Prisco - Minkah Fitzpatrick FS Alabama

Some nice possibilities but --- it's all over the map.  Every mock you look at seems to have somebody different for the Pack. Not even Gute knows who they're going to take first yet. He was trained under the White Ghost and will let the draft come to him. Will be  interesting to see if he makes any moves.

Just to agree with your point about the mocks being all over the place, Packdog, for GB at 14: 247 Sports- Derwin James, S; Charlie Campbell- Denzel Ward, CB; Draftek- Josh Jackson, CB; Walter Football- Jaire Alexander,CB; Reuter (early mock)-Minkah Fitzpatrick, S; Reuter( later mock)-Leighton Vander Esch, LB; Norris- Harold Landry, Edge. 4 mocks have GB taking Marcus Davenport, Edge; 2 other mocks have us taking Minkah Fitzpatrick. If any of these players you or I listed went to the Packers at 14, I'd be happy. I wonder if Davenport isn't some kind of media creation or is just really being hyped by his agent. I haven't really heard of him prior to the Combine. Maybe because his smaller school didn't get a lot of air time? Pro scouts seem to like him.

Here are a few WRs the mocks have the Packers taking in various Rounds: Draftek, Round 3, pick 76, Dante Pettis, Washington; Charlie Campbell, 2nd Round, pick 45, DJ Moore, Maryland; Charlie Campbell, 4th Round pick 133, Marcel Ateman, OK ST; Walter Football, 2nd Round, pick 45, D.J. Chark, LSU; Walter Football, Round 5, pick 174, Allen Lazard, Iowa ST; 247 Sports, Round 3, pick 76, Anthony Miller, Memphis.  Most of these mocks have picks going into several rounds. A lot of mocks only do the First Round, so a lot of players never get mentioned. I've seen early mocks in which Calvin Ridley is selected by the Packers at 14 and some that have Deon Cain being selected in later rounds by the Packers. It's a crap shoot and as someone here said earlier, not even Gute knows who he will pick yet. It's fun to guess, though.

I'm really curious how the tight ends play out.  Will the big names go early? Or will a Giesiski fall to the third round?  I know nothing about Goedert, but folks seem to really like him.  I think Hurst is the first, but will go in the second.  I think Fum will go a lot later than Badger fans think he will.

No need to worry about a blocking TE anyway, McStupidface uses them like diet plans.

IDK, NFL.com, whose grading system has proven to be the most accurate I have found, has Cain rated as their 2nd WR, after Ridley.

They're no way in hell the most accurate. They have Cain, Pettis and Callaway 2, 3 and 4, ahead of Moore, Kirk, Sutton, Washington and Chark. Bob McGinn and  Matt Miller and Chad Reuter are more accurate than Lance Zierlein, for example

Cain not only has a drug suspension but he wasn't even the most reliable receiver on his own team, Hunter Renfrew was. His drops have increased each of the last two seasons and he's had one good year. He's a decent deep guy but he's much less versatile, IMO.

Meanwhile Gallup has been the leading receiver for the last two seasons. In 2016 while Cain was collecting 38 catches, Gallup pulled in 76. In 2017 Cain caught 58.

Gallup caught 100.

The Colorado D-backs, both second-round corners last year and Isaiah Oliver, who will be gone by the early second this year, plus safety Tedric Thompson have said Gallup was the toughest receiver they faced. Gallup can play inside or out and he's tough as nails.

NFL.com uses an 8.0 rating scale. Last year they had 34 players rated at a 6.0 or higher. 27 of the 34 were taken in the first round. The 5 remaining first round picks were rated either 5.9 or 5.8. Of the 7 players that had at 6.0 or higher who were not taken in First round, 5 of them were taken in top half of second round. That Is why they appear to be more aligned to what NFL evaluators are thinking in comparison to other sites I've seen.

The knock on Hurst is age, he'll be 25 before the season starts, so that may cost him a bit. I'd love to see Fumagalli in Green Bay with one of their fifth-round picks.

Basically everyone past the obvious elite are in the 5 range so that's rather pointless. Bucky Hodges (5.72) was a sixth rounder.  Nabbing a high percentage of first rounders isn't a big deal, outside of Engram, Bolles and maybe Ramczyk they were pretty much all widely thought to be solid first-round prospects and those three weren't late rounders. It's what comes after the usually obvious top tier(s) that makes the difference.

As the draft hit's a bit of a lull before things start ramping up again in two weeks:

It's starting to look more and more like Josh Jackson makes a lot of sense at 14 factoring in BPA/Need/Upside/known entity. Ward might fall to 14. But Jackson would not be a need reach at 14. He's going to be a good corner in the NFL.

Then maybe something like Lorenzo Carter and Gallup to round out day two. I like Chark and then Lorenzo on day two better (Chark is a solid return guy to replace our TSA hero). I like Lorenzo's ability on the edge as a situational rush guy. He might still be there in rd 3.

Rodney article - not accurate

The Packers havenโ€™t traded up in the first round since 2002 when then-GM Mike Sherman went from No. 28 to No. 20 to get wide receiver Javon Walker.

Ummm....I guess everyone forgets about 2009

Maybe I'm reading it incorrectly

Im guessing they mean moved up in the round with their current first rounder. In 2009 they moved into the first round from the second round and they stood pat with the first rounder they already had

If Gutekunst sticks with TT's WR production metrics there's a good chance Anthony Miller, DJ Moore, Michael Gallup or James Washington will be a Day 2 pick, if available.

In yet another Mock, this time a 2 rounder from Stick It To Football, had The Packers taking James Washington, WR of Oklahoma State at #45. The other WRs that came off the board prior to Washington were DJ Chark in the 2nd Round at #40 to Denver, Calvin Ridley in the 1st Round at #24 to Carolina and Courtland Sutton going to the Patriots at #31 to end the 1st Round. In the 2nd Round, after the Packers picked  Washington at #45,  Cincy took DJ Moore at #46, Arizona took Christian Kirk at #47 and Buffalo took Deon Cain at #53.

TEs that went in this 2 Rounder are Mike Gesecki, in the 1st round at #27 to the Saints, Hayden Hurst in the 2nd at #55 to Carolina and Dallas Goetdert in the 2nd at #58 to the Falcons, in case anyone is interested.

Six QBs went in the 1st Round in this mock and in the 1st at #14 they said The Packers took Marcus Davenport.
