Watson wasn’t a R1 pick though. Sorry if I didn’t say that, this pattern is limited to their 6 R1 picks (which admittedly isn’t a huge sample size for a pattern) save for Wyatt. The pattern is <22 years old, >8 RAS, and position of need. Wyatt fulfilled 2 of 3 criteria.

They pretty much gave up the resources for a #1 to get him, though. That said, one of those guys would have to be there at least in the second, I think, for them to be taken by Green Bay.

How's this for a mock?

15. Brian Branch S Alabama

45. Dalton Kincaid TE Utah

78. Keeanu Benton DT Wisconsin

128. K.J. Henry EDGE Clemson (traded down)

147. Jonathan Mingo WR Ole Miss

160. Julius Brents CB Kansas State (extra pick from trade)

202. Zion Nelson OT Miami (FL)

211. Chris Rodriguez Jr. RB Kentucky

221. Cornelius Johnson WR Michigan

Well, yes...there are. It depends on what the Packers want to do with the interior. Can Myers switch to guard if we bring in a center? Tippman from Wisconsin should be an excellent center in the pros...maybe even as a guard.

As far as the Dline goes, a lot will depend on what happens with Jarran Reed and Dean Lowry. I'm really high on Benton...I like the power he displays. He's not just a nose tackle. He can penetrate, as well, much like Kenny Clark.

Well it does seem like you can never have enough good interior d-lineman.  Slaton and Wyatt coming on late in the year was a big factor in our defenses improvement. Myers & Runyan are just inconsistent. They both stunk in final game vs. the Lions, getting beat for negative run gains and putting us behind the sticks. If you could get an upgrade for one of them it may help the other one. Runyan is less talented, but Myers is more up and down.

Myers to me could make the switch.  He is a local kid and he didn't play any center until he was switched a couple of years after going to O$U.  His background was an OT but the team was so stacked they moved him.

Looking at some Packers draft history at RB, I noted a marked change from drafting RBs in the 1st or 2nd rounds during the 1980, and trending to 3rd/4th/5th rounds subsequently

Until Quadzilla, Eddie "China Food" Lacy (2013) was the last 2nd round pick.  Brandon "B-Junk" Jackson (2007) was also a 2nd round pick. Nobody else higher than 3rd round

Najeh "The Poopster" Davenport (4th round) was picked in 2002. Otherwise, the Packers didn't pick a RB in any round from 2000-2006.
The 1990s was only slightly better. Very few picks regardless of round.

The most recent 1st round pick for a RB?
Darrell "Pookie" Thompson (1990), the 2nd (19th overall) of 2 1st round picks the Packers had that year.

This hasn't necessarily been a bad strategy. The Packers have obtained tremendous value in these middle rounds. Aaron Jones (5th round) is the best, and most recent, example.

There are other good running backs to be had later on in the upcoming draft...

There is, that is always the case. This particular back is a once in a decade type, by most accounts. Talent-wise, would likely be the best back in GB in a very long time. But yes, I understand that the likelihood of drafting a RB at all early is nearly nil. I found it interesting to see him mocked to GB by a well-known site, and knowing that he is a special talent.

I'm sure I'm oversimplifying, but Gute seems to be willing to go with 'whoever' as a 3rd RB. Sure, they want that guy to be good, and have him available in case of injury, but there's a lot of turnover for that particular position.
Dexter Williams was drafted for that role, but didn't pan out.
I thought Tyler Ervin was the man at one point. Then he disappeared, never to be seen or heard from again.
Then it was going to be Kylin Hill, but ditto the disappearing act.
Now we have Patrick Taylor.
There are likely others I've forgotten about.

Here are some running backs I like from the 4th round on (in no particular order):

Zach Evans - Ole Miss 6' 215lbs

Chase Brown - Fighting Illini - 5'11" 205 lbs

Tyjae Spears - Tulane - 5'10" 195 lbs

Eric Gray - Oklahoma - 5'10" - 211 lbs

Kenny McIntosh - Georgia - 6'1" 210 lbs

Chris Rodriguez, Jr. - Kentucky - 5'11" 224 lbs

Mohamed Ibrahim - Minnesota - 5'10" 210 lbs (injury concerns, but the talent is there - late-round flyer to develop him)

Evan Hull - Northwestern - 5'11" 210 lbs

Hunter Luepke (FullBack) - North Dakota State - 6'1" 236 lbs

Ben Fennel is high on a TE coming out of NDSU, Gindorff.  Underutilized but shows good traits for sundays.  Thinks he'll be climbing boards in the spring.  Mid round sleeper.

He looks all right, but not nearly enough experience. He's a 7th-rounder, or a UDFA. He only played 3 games in 2022. Must be some kind of injury he's rehabbing.

IMO, if the TE is not the #1 or #2 guy, I don't want him this year. That means Mayer or Kincaid...the only two I would consider drafting, unless it's someone to develop for later on. And, they're not the same type of TE. Mayer is the one guy I feel can do everything: block, catch, etc. Kincaid might be the better runner, and maybe even a better route runner, but not the same blocker as Mayer. I'd take either one and use them slightly different.

Zach Evans reminds me of Patrick Taylor. He has solid long speed and looks to have decent hands. He just seems to glide when he runs some times.

I want to love Eric Gray, but he might not be quite fast enough as a human joystick even though his cuts and lateral agility are very good.

I used a new (to me at least) simulator PFN...if we could actually get this draft I would be elated (I traded the 15th and 78th pick for the 16th and 47th)
