This. I think it's in his DNA.
Yup too many picks and not enough slots on the roster to hold them all.
The problem with that is....less bites of the apple means you cannot miss if you trade up.
Football players.....no busts
He did a masterful job last year with second round picks. Three great players so far

Time to start cutting good players. That just means more competition which is a good thing.

Zero chance the Bears don't take a QB. Their guys looks at best like a middling QB. They have a chance to draft a real QB for the first time in franchise history.
And to think they had a shot at Mitch Trubisky.
Packers trade this years 1 and next years 1 for Max Crosby....What is another couple of 1s for defense.? Gute is going to do it anyway and Crosy is an animal.
Or they just wait patiently until Van Ness is terrorizing QBs like Crosby does, but in a bigger, faster package.
Van Ness doesn't have much of any bend, which is fairly common for guys his size. Myles Garrett is a freak. It would be nice if they could maybe add a specialist, someone like a Fackrell (only with some bend) when they either slide guys inside or give them a breather.
Can't wait for your draft stuff Herschel. I seem to remember better stuff here on X4 from you and others than the professionals provide.

It's Friday, Jan. 12 and Caleb Williams has not yet declared for the NFL draft. The deadline is Monday Jan 15. On Wed, I called Carl Williams, Caleb's dad, to ask why the delay? He referred me to their publicist, who declined to comment until everything is "buttoned up." (1/9)

he does not want to go to chicago.
He's an idiot that will be a bust
Then it sounds like he would be perfect for Chicago.

And less tats

Coop!!! That's a championship pick there.
Wouldn't mind Penix to the Vikings. That Michigan game really opened some question marks on that guy and I'd just really like to watch that goofy ass release at least twice a year for a few years.

They almost can't afford to not take a QB, and whomever they take may be screwed because what good offenseive coordinator and QB coach want to take the job working for a coach who just canned the offensive staff and is on the hot seat.

I don't know. If I had a shot to be his OC, I'd want to take it. Might be a quick trip to a HC gig somewhere if Williams is the next big thing.

If Iโm the Bears, Iโm telling him he can have ownership and then trading the pick. Welcome to big leagues, Caleb.
I donโt want that headache on my team.
Where does this dude think he is going to go? Good teams donโt have the capital and already have a QB.
Honestly, Chicago is probably the best option for him. A 7 win team with their draft capital, cap situation, and ascending defense. Tell me a better situation that a 1st pick QB has ever walked into.
Kid is a moron, making demands like heโs got Tom Brady resume already.
Maybe he'll fall and Gutekunst will trade up to take him?
I want Caleb Williams on the Jets.
A stud safety like a Polamalu type would be great for this group. Is there one?

Worked for John Elway.
To the Vikings for Jefferson and two #1s
To the Lions for Hutch and two #1s
What teams need a QB and have something to give? Niners. Maybe Dolphins or Rams. There are not a lot of teams that fit the bill and they would need to be willing to bet then next 3 years on this guy.
Exactly why GB makes the most sense. Draft a QB when you don't need one.
I'm thinking Denver.
Surely Williams and Payton would get along just fine...

John Elway used the โIโm going to play baseballโ card

Style-wise, Green Bay likes their safeties more interchangeable, so probably not what they're looking for.
Jaden Hicks from Washington State is somewhat similar, I think, but he doesn't do anything as well as Polamalu did.
Most of the best safeties this year are hybrid guys with emphasis on good coverage skills and can play in the slot.

Elway's baseball offer was no joke. The Yankees selected him in the draft and gave him a big bonus for the time. He was a hell of a prospect and the Yanks/George S. really wanted him.
He had a lot more leverage than anyone else, (Including Williams if true.) who has used this tactic.
Not sure why Chicago is such a great landing spot for Caleb Williams.
The ownership and front office have been a mess for a while. The HC may or may not stick long term and heโs a defensive guy. And itโs not like that team is loaded with a good OL and playmakers outside of DJ Moore.
Cole Kmet and Darnell Mooney don't impress you?!?

Even the mock draft big boards I've seen, have several players listed at one position but are listed as another on someone else's big board. Iowa CB Cooper DeJean is one. He is listed as a CB in some big boards but in mock drafts, he gets drafted as a Safety. Same goes for DE, Edge and OLBs. If you are looking for a particular player, in a mock draft, he could be found at a position other than what some big boards have him listed as.
Javon Bullard from GA is another. Heโs extremely athletic and many project him as a slot safety though others see him as a corner.
Are there any "Charles Woodson's" out there? Someone who can play CB/S yet has the ability to poke his nose around the LOS. Woodson was one of the truly great players to don a Packers uni. I loved the way he played defense and want Gutey to find his clone.
I'd be leary about picking an IA DB in the 1st. IA DBs play strictly zone ... do it damn well and are fundamentally sound. But remember Josh Jackson? I was thrilled when Gutey picked him but turns out he couldn't cover a caterpillar one on one. Name an IA DB who has had an impact in the NFL ... Hyde and ???
