I always heard it was the team who scores more points, I believe I heard it from Madden himself.

You might be thinking of the time an offense was lining up for a field goal, and he gets out his pen and starts drawing on the field and says something like:

"Well they're at the 40 yard line (draws line); now, that's better than the 45 yard line (draws another line), but not as good as the 35 yard line here (draws another line and scribbles all over the field)."

I mean, he was great and may he rest in peace and all that, but the truth is, half the time he was just babbling.

Not a mention of Adams. Another weakness of the 49ers is their defensive backfield. We can exploit that.

Quick drops and rhythm offense to supplement the running game. Adams will be a big part of that with Cobb and Lazard. The best defense is a deliberate and sustained offense that executes. It also wouldn't hurt if MLF wants a bit of payback in the form of a dominant ground game right in Shanahan's face.

Nothing would be sweeter than to see the Packers rush for 300 yards on them.  Not at all likely IMHO but still fun to think about MLF being able to do that.

I'll settle for just offensive balance (something they failed to do against the Bucs in the championship game).  I'm hoping for a comfortable victory that leaves no doubt about who the better team was.

Madden Quotes

Like many I have no fear of Jimmy. It’s going to be cold and hard to pass. Also it will be at our place. On the other hand their defense and the running game travels well in the playoffs. The Packers are tied for 29th in the NFL when it comes to run defense this season, allowing 4.7 yards per carry on the ground. They’re also giving up an average of 109.1 yards per game. 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell didn’t play when the teams first met in Week 3 of the regular season. And now he is, himself, averaging 4.7 yards per carry. Tackling and gap discipline will be key. The last game came down to 37 seconds with no timeouts. It might again.

I recently changed jobs and now work in Green Bay less than 10 minutes from Lambeau.

Seemed pretty nice outside.  Sun is shining, not much wind, yet temp gauge in my car showed -2.

Didn’t seem that cold but had to remind myself this is the 3rd different cold snap or episode just this month.

Say what you want about the weather but I can guaran fucking t you the Niners will be thinking about it.  Especially if there’s wind involved.

Not positive but i think the Whiners flew into Green Bay last night.   According to Flightaware there was only 1 large plane that flew into Green Bay last night from the San Fran area.  It tookoff from San Jose at 4:46 PST and  landed at 10:21 CST.  Just a few more hours for them to acclaimate to the cold.  It won't do them any good. You need days, not hours.

Gary Ellerson and Leroy Butler, former Packers, were saying when you are in your early 20s you can deal with it much better. It’s when you are pushing 30+ the weather really starts fucking with you. Or if you have had a nagging injury that you are chronically dealing with.

Explains a lot about Bert. He looked like a very different QB when the weather turned once he hit about 34. And he has had no issue fully admitting it.

I haven't experienced a Wisconsin winter in 20 years but I remember very well how used to the cold you get.  We would notice if it was below zero for an extended time but didn't really phase us.  Like you said it can be sunny out and it doesnt feel that bad to you and yet its -2 outside.  And when I lived there you didn't really think about it being that cold.

And there will be Whiner dum-dums out there with no sleeves on to show how tough they are.

How tough could they possibly be ?

Gary Ellerson, former Packer RB from the 80's. He does radio these days and hangs out in GB on game day. You can often find him at corner of Stadium Drive and Oneida drinking beer, telling stories and entertaining the old farts.

I saw some of my WI friends post of FB pictures of their car thermometers at -19 today......damn!!

I saw one at -26. Yikes. Was -11 here on my way to work today.

Not to get ahead of things here but Jan 30th is calling for a high of 25 and a low of 14. Makes me a little less intimidated about going to that game.

Anything on Mercilus?

The elephant in the room is SF run vs. GB run D.

The neg: everyone knows Jimmy can't carry a team with his arm, especially if it's injured and barely above 0degF.   I expect Shannahan to have a circus of a run game ready.  Run between the T's, run outside, Deebo out of the backfield, sweeps, RPO runs, flee flicker, etc.  Our DL is thin.  Look for SF to wear them out both inside to beat them up and outside to tire them out.  Then let Jimmy throw in 4Q after setting up the D for the first 3.  Possible counter to this: it will probably be harder to throw the later it gets.

The pos: we've seen this D stop the run and do it vs. good running teams.  They've just lack consistency and were trending downward at the end of the season.  If they can get back to mid-season form, they'll be fine.  BIG IF.  They should also get Z and Mercilus back.  Z can rush inside and bringing Merciless in on passing downs can also push Gary or Preston inside.  They'll need as many bodies as they can get in the box.

Time will tell if they are successful.
