@nwagoner: Will be interesting to see how #Packers defend run on Saturday. This season, GB used average of 6.3 defenders in the box against runs, lightest in the NFL. #49ers saw the 4th-heaviest box on average against runs (7.1 defenders), per NFL Next Gen Stats. In Week 3, that worked for Packers, as they allowed a season-low 2.2 yards per rush without a loaded box (fewer defenders than blockers). Again, #49ers run game looks much different than that game, though. No Elijah Mitchell in that game and Deebo had not yet emerged as runner.

That recipe is every team's kryptonite

It is certainly true that any team that cannot stop the run on a consistent basis while simultaneously featuring a soft coverage scheme is likely to give up a lot of points come playoff time -- as the Packers most certainly have over the past decade.

But not every team intentionally plays a soft, passive coverage scheme like the ones we have seen in so many recent Packer playoff defeats.

KC is not exactly a talent-laden defense, but they are very aggressive when it comes to defending the pass (and have been the past several years).

TB and SF certainly do not play passive, bend don't break defense.

With the talent in the GB secondary, there is no reason for GB to play soft coverage against the likes of a Jimmy G, at home and in the cold, on Saturday.

The choice to be aggressive or passive on defense in the passing game is in GB's control. Hope they choose the latter option.

@ByRyanWood:  #Packers coach Matt LaFleur says he's "hopeful" Za'Darius Smith and Jaire Alexander can play vs. 49ers: "They'll be out there today, and we'll see how they react over the course of the week. That would be a great bonus for us if they're able to go on Saturday."

@ByRyanWood:  Matt LaFleur says he anticipates #Packers OLB Whitney Mercilus playing vs. 49ers. What a remarkable recovery from torn biceps. Important, too, vs. SF run defense. "He is just a pro's pro," LaFleur says.

@BillHuberSI:  Bakhtiari won't practice today, LaFleur says. It's "load management" and not a concern.

@ByRyanWood:  Matt LaFleur will not say David Bakhtiari is playing Saturday against 49ers. LaFleur says Bakhtiari is coming off a big injury, and he's being evaluated every day. The #Packers All-Pro left tackle will be given the week before a decision is made.

I am prone to wet the bed, but the Packers are going to win Saturday....the only question will be how much chicken to put in my wife's 'white' chili, which includes chicken, white beans, salsa, cream cheese, mushroom soup and whatever spices you desire.

A thick cheeseburger soup could be a second option

Good luck finding cream cheese. Seems like an odd item to add to the national shortage list.

This. I can't imagine playing a passive D in such an important game. Makes no sense.

We didn't play that way in the Seattle game.

Very good news.  They are going to need all these bodies.  Hope they are ramping up the intensity as well.

You should see my garage. Filled to the rafters with cream cheese. Once the shortage gets bad enough I am going to cash out and be rich!

@RickGosselin9:  The 49ers-Packers playoff game draws referee Ron Torbert & an “all-star” crew. Torbert’s crew finished 14th of the NFL’s 17 crews in penalties. Home teams went 10-7 with Torbert. The Packers are 6-2 all-time with Torbert, the 49ers 3-5.

I don't know what all the wringing of hands is about.  We have a pretty fucking good team too.  4-time MVP AR Fricken Rodgers!  Adams! Cobb!  Lazard!  Bak!  Myers!  Aaron Jones and the Quadzilla!  KC!  Mercilus!  Campbell!  Stokes!  Douglas!  Maybe Ja!  C'mon, LET's GO!!!!

Let's all have a few of these.  Trust me, you'll feel better.

Ha ha. Official beer of the TimesFour game day thread.

Hubrisbrau, the only beer fortified with Hubris.

That Jones is being told that by other players is rather interesting. I don’t think of Lambeau as being “loud”. Maybe all that cheer leading that MLF does on the sidelines is helping …🤔

@NicoleMenner
#Packers Aaron Jones said he's been told by many players in the league that Lambeau is one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL. Expects fans to bring that energy Saturday.
