Packers activated OLB Za’Darius Smith and OLB Whitney Mercilus off IR. LaFleur said yesterday that if either was good to go for Saturday that they’d be activated. So two important guys back for Green Bay’s defense. Smith hasn’t played since Week 1, Mercilus since Week 10.

LETS GOOOOO!

From the interwebs:

49ers announced that DL Nick Bosa has cleared concussion protocol and has no injury designation against the Green Bay Packers.

I don't mean to really injure the guy but just a little hit to ding him up.

They would. And while your at it, a few licks to Fred Warner as well. You have to test them don’t you?😀🤣

From packers.com:

The Green Bay Packers have activated LBs Whitney Mercilus and Za'Darius Smith  off injured reserve and released DL Jack Heflin and CB Isaac Yiadom. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transactions Friday.

Whew. MVS survived the cuts.

So that's TWO DL getting whacked in the last 24 hours. I'm assuming they will elevate at least 1 if not both the DL on the PS. Probably will see a good 10 snaps from Z on the DL, too.

If I'm the Packers, I design a play in the first quarter where Warner is the most likely guy to make a play on Dillon.

If I'm the Niners, I design a play very early to force Jaire Alexander to tackle.

Someone brought this up in another thread, but how will releasing some of these guys affect special teams? You'd think it couldn't get much worse, but it will be interesting to see what they will do. These are the special teams snap counts from the last game that counted (against the Vikings). They have 8 guys that play ~60% or more of special teams snaps.

Yiadom was a core special teams guy. So is Galeai and it's unlikely he'll be active tomorrow if Merciless and Z. Smith are both active.

An interesting point. Perhaps that means more starters on ST’s? That may not be a bad thing. The only downside is lack of experience (by possible starters) on that phase of the game. Tipa prevented a catch on trick play in Detroit. Black is tough on hits by the returners. I hope we can still play the best guys.

Niners arrived in Wisconsin late last night.  Now holding an outdoor practice.

Douglas has been a positive addition since joining STs....

He has. And Lazard has requested to play on ST. I read that so has EQ. My only concern is injury to starters. There is a reason many starters don’t play there but it’s win or go home time.

Wisconsin native who is now living in Los Angles will be singing the National Anthem……

Grammy Award-winning songwriter and recording artist Grace Weber, a Wauwatosa native now based in Los Angeles, is preparing herself to sing the national anthem at Saturday's Green Bay Packers playoff game in a perfect way — by rehearsing in a walk-in freezer.

The wind chill factor is expected to feel 2 below zero when the Packers and San Francisco 49ers kick off at 7:15 p.m. Saturday in the divisional round of the NFC playoffs at Lambeau Field.    🥶 😅 💚 💛

They are sure that this will be a much different game than the one from week three. https://www.49ers.com/news/49e...nce-shanahan-lafleur

I've seen a ton of "we're a totally different team now" from Niners fans, which is fine. They've been on a roll and they've played very good football in the second half of the season, including win or go home situations. What they fail to include is the amount of adversity and change for their opponent during this campaign. The Pack is 12-2 since that game in the "Bay area", unless we count the loss to the Loins. That's about the only constant in Green Bay this year, the W's. While I expect a good test from SF, they should also expect to be up against a team that plans to take their destiny into their own hands tomorrow night on the frozen tundra.

Niners apparently practiced outside at Bayport HS today to get acclimated.

Memo to them - you never get acclimated to this shit in a day or two.  By the way, Bayport is a nice simulation but last time I checked there weren’t 80K fans going crazy and the field and wind conditions can’t be duplicated.

To me, what isn’t known nor expected is the field has slick spots and the wind is really unpredictable.  It’s better now that they closed off the south end zone but unless you play there you have no idea what to expect.  And at kickoff I’d venture a guess it will be in single digits which ain’t anything like the 18-20 and sun and limited wind they practiced in today.

They are talking snow showers tomorrow so that means there will be some moisture in the air and if field is uncovered good luck if they heat it up. It will be soapy and slippery.

As someone that has lived in both CA and much longer in WI I can tell you the weather will screw with your head.  No different than the the humidity in the Deep South or desert 115 temps.  Over time you can adapt and adjust but in a day or two that won’t happen.

They’re in for a rude awakening.  The Packers are a much different team too.  And that “impressive” win was against a vastly overrated Cowboys team and they barely scraped by with that one.  The Packers are way better than what the 49ers have faced on otheir path to get here.  And it’s going to be cold as fuck.  I don’t care who you are, unless you live in and practice in the climate the Packers do, you have no idea as a pussed out Cali resident, what cold really means.  That, and we’re at home with a full crowd this year.  It’s going to be an intimidating environment to be sure.  Fuck the media pundits who hate AR and the Packers.  We’re going to fucking stomp them.

Remember that Raiders game where the Lambeau Leap was invented? Also CAF, Raiders and Packers were both first rate team but we took it to them and after they were 28 points or so down you could read the QUIT right on their faces as they cuddled up to the heaters and regretted they were unable to make time go by faster.

Not Long Island ice tea…….OMGOSH…..my first introduction to Long Island iced tea was on a motorcycle trip to a HOG rally in Bayfield Wi.  Had a couple, and thought what’s the big deal with Long Island ice teas….bout fell off the bike twice.  😳😳😳 Oh yah, they’re good and killers.  🤣 😂 🤣

Too bad for Can O' Dirt. I hope he finds his way back to the PS and gives it another shot next year.
Yiadom = addition by subtraction. And don't go away mad... just go away. Far away.

I want to see Big Dog knock some snot from Bosa. Frozen snot, of course.
I think Warner will be OK when plays are in front of him, but won't have enough speed to be effective chasing plays down. Pain killers or not, the cold always intensifies pain.

I also think the Packers defense needs to play very physically against their receivers. Don't allow clean releases and keep coverage tight. Holding and PI penalties aren't as common in the playoffs, so take advantage of that every chance possible.

just a reminder: packers lost home playoff games after the 2002, 2004, 2007, 2011, 2013 and 2020 seasons.  it was fucking cold for at least a couple of those games and they still lost.  anyone who thinks this is in the bag is kidding themselves.

sf isn’t going to be passing much, so i don’t think this will matter

LMAO bringing up games from 2002? Dude, who the fuck cares.  And 2020 was balmy with a handful of fans attending.

That's something a guy would do drunk or like with a head injury ...
