This is like all those native Louisiana residents blaming Obama for the mess that occurred after Katrina.
Everybody knows it was really Trump's fault.

Notice the guys Ted is signing now: young guys who he thinks have upside for the future. He's not signing guys for today, but for next year.
So this season is already over and we need to look forward to next year.

And this is the issue...a team with a QB like Arodg, who theoretically should be built for the SB every year, should not have rookies and UDFA as key backups almost everywhere. You need veterans capable of coming in and not missing a beat if your starters go down. Ahmad Brooks is a great example of that.
Hungry5 posted:SteveLuke posted:Remember when we used to hear that Ted was the best because he rarely, rarely signed free agents?
Nope.
Yeah, I definitely don't remember that cobbled together reach around either.
Barclay is now on IR. That's why we kept 10 Olinemen
Saints sign McCaffrey to PS.
Saints becoming the Minnesota Vikings south.

At least you used the word "theoretically" in this asinine statement.
And Brooks is officially listed on the roster, but with no assigned number.
24601?
Glad they're kicking the tires on Dial. I think he can help.

I see what you did there.
I don't .

Ask Hauser.

Works for me. We can sign him from there if there's an injury at WR.
Janis was kept for ST's. I get it: Starting gunner beats #6 receiver. That changes if there's a serious injury.
Tight roster means Thompson had to gamble that McCaffrey would clear waivers. He was right on that gambit. He just didn't figure pride into the equation.
Tight roster also meant Ted had to presume our best receivers stay healthy. If they don't, we sign him from New Orleans. He's not going to reject a roster spot, IMO. If he has to, MM can just pull the old good cop/bad cop: "I wanted you but Ted said no" kind of thing.
Second stringer or not, wanting a smart receiver who gets open and does not drop the football isn't "freaking out," by the way. It's a flipping football opinion-sharing kind of place here, is it not? McCaffrey could step in at a moments notice and get open. I'd guess AR wants his ilk over dipstick jump-ball freak athletes who don't know where to ****ing line up.
Now that's just good posting, bub.
Well thanks Kiel. You're not so bad yourself sometimes.
As we say: Go Pack.
When I say signing guys for next year, I don't mean the season is over. Not at all. I mean he's signing guys who he sees as perhaps making the roster next year. Guys who are young with upside, who can push others for a job, are now a little ticked off their previous team didn't want them, and are grateful they have a job. And if you're not turning over the bottom of your roster every year, then you're too complacent.
I wonder if that is why TT traded Elliot. I think he was due a new contract at the end of the season and maybe TT didn't want to pay him what he might have gotten elsewhere.

I'm not sure why they would bother when they have Clark and Yancey on the PS already.

They're not ready.
Neither Yancey or Clark are ready for prime time. They are on the PS to develop. I'd feel more comfortable with McCaffrey running routes for the Pack if they sustained a couple of injuries.
I like our chances this year if the OL starters stay healthy, if Matthews and Perry stay healthy, if Rollins and Randall have bounce-back seasons, if House can step up and be a #1 CB, if King can contribute as a rookie, if MM commits to RTFB, if Capers learns to make in-game adjustments
Please don't watch any games. You probably will be disappointed if you have that much on your list. Just try and enjoy the season.
We'll we're boned now that they've cut loose the 6th/7th WR you love. He'll be tearing it up against the Packers soon and they will surely regret this shortsighted move!
Anyone know when we play the Ottawa Redblacks? I'd hate to have the nation see Thompson's mistake blow up in his face like that on a National TV game.
I love how angsty we all get about the bottom of the roster. Because guys like McCaffrey, Rolle and Charles Johnson are really going to impact Rodgers destroying the **** out of defenses.
I don't think the argument here is for or against a guy like Max. The point is getting the most competent and prepared 53 guys on the roster at all times. Churning the bottom over on a continual basis.
Its not like someone who's just a guy at the bottom of the roster that's primarily there for his ability to contribute to ST is going to screw anything up.
Until he does....
Pistol GB posted:... McCaffrey could step in at a moment's notice and get open.
Oh really. Maybe he would. More likely he wouldn't. Chances are he would be more like a slightly beefed up Abbrederis.
All I can say is that he looked good against the same caliber of DB's that Janis and other marginal WRs torch every preseason. Did McCaffrey ever run against legit 1-4 CBs this past preseason? There are always a lot of Mr. August's.

All 3 of them aren't ready, that's why they're all on practice squads. If McCaffrey was ready he wouldn't have cleared waivers.
The Saints even signed a WR to the roster after cuts, and it wasn't McCaffrey.
All Oneida
The term was conjured up in the mid-1990s by a few Green Bay Packers veterans, guys who’d seen young teammates impress in helmets and shorts and then disappear during training camp when the pads came on.
It was inspired by the location of the team’s primary practice field, which ran parallel to the major thoroughfare that divides Lambeau Field and the Don Hutson Center.
All-Oneida, they called the flash-in-the-pan spring all-stars.

He should have been cut on the sidelines for that boneheaded move.

^^^This.
And to add, also doing it against defensive coordinators running the most vanilla schemes in preseason as well. And ya, that makes a big difference.

1) It's angsty, it's funny. You know it.
2) Duh.
