I've seen the same thing happen dozens of times; a peon gets punished/terminated for a relatively minor transgression, while managers/executives are mostly immune to much worse actions.
Followed by some sort of "we don't put up with this" speech intended to intimidate others.
The Packers were right to suspend Alexander, but they are wrong to not apply the same principals to a coach.
I'm getting this mental image of Joe Barry trying to go out there and name himself captain.

There's a big difference between personal performance and personal conduct.

Fair point. Jaire definitely didn't handle this situation correctly.
However, to expect any human to go out there bang their heads against the wall for a lame duck DC just isn't going to happen.....EVER!
@FLPACKER posted:MLF said that this season coaches choose captains changing each game.
So it's even possible Joe Barry mis-managed the relationship out of obliviousness or petty spite.
Jaire doesn't have to be in the right for Barry to have made it worse. Guys criticized your shitty scheme? Step back, swallow your fucking ego and work on at least managing the relationships. Barry should not only be fired, no NFL franchise should ever hire him again. Of course we know his father-in-law will fire up the good old boys network to make sure Joey has a steady income once again and do everything to keep his seat at the 1265 Country Club.
I do think MLF is stuck trying to plug leaks in the dam until they can get to the offseason and then make moves, but lordy it looks like there are more holes than fingers right now.

So no D on the field for the rest of the season.
@Tschmack posted:BTW, I will bet 100 bucks the main reason for Love’s improvement is Tom Clements. Rodgers literally said he’s the guy that made him who he is.
And I'd bet 100 bucks the main reason is Jordan Love. That guy worked his ass off all offseason. Spent a ton of time with his receivers before TC even started.
Clements definitely helped him develop but Love did all the work.
Love deserves a ton of credit for sure. He’s out there playing QB.
I just don’t buy the whole “can’t fire MLF” concept as somehow it will put Love into a tailspin. That assumes a lot IMO.
I’m more worried about this coaching staff alienating some of their best players. And preaching standards and accountability while they come up short or shit the bed themselves.
Tough to follow your leaders when they don’t all practice what they preach.

Is that any different than what we saw in the last 0:19 seconds on Sunday?!?!?

Called that shot same as Mike Sherman. Sherman did work for Houston Texans briefly I believe before A&M
Jaire stuff has been brewing for a while..... Really don't want to lose him as a player but whatever will be will be.
He's still one of Guteys prized picks. So we'll see.
Like I said yesterday..... Going to be an interesting off-season at 1265

How much money does it take to have a player do his best, bang his head against the wall, play his ass off regardless of what he thinks about his defensive coordinator and scheme? Your own personal accountability shouldn't be dependent upon that of another. These guys are paid handsomely to do their jobs, no excuses.

That's exactly what MLF is trying to get them to do. This ain't Lombardi's Packers in the 60's anymore. It just isn't.

Point noted. But it still doesn't justify acting the fool, both in doing what he did and in the way he "handled" it after the fact. As far as I'm concerned, his comments were dumber than the act itself. Nothing professional in either case.
The right move would have been to suspend Jaier and fire Barry today. That's the "We're not fucking around" memo that the players would have respected.
One or the other only causes division.
Shortcut to Jason Wilde on the Steve the Homer True Show from tonight
One of those times when the reporter can't help but spill some of the details they've been holding back. Homer sets Jason off by making some possibly incorrect suppositions. Jason pushed back pretty hard against the idea that MLF doesn't get pissed off at the players and yell at them when warranted and then focused on 23's side of the ledger
If you listen closely there was frustration from the Packers side when 23 was able to play vs the Raiders because 23 wanted to go against 17 and then sitting himself down again after that. Looking at Over the Cap 23 has a $650k per game roster bonus. That means everytime he says no to playing a game he loses out on $650k. He has to be active on gameday to get that money. I'd bet dollars to donuts he's pissed at his money situation and wants a renegotiated contract. Several reporters have been hinting around it by saying he had *only* $30 million guaranteed on his last extension.
Bulaga mentioned roster bonuses as a point of contention today as well. Players can get disgruntled when they have to go out banged up to earn their money. 23 showed displeasure with his money this off season by leaving when his contract gave him bonus money to be with the team. If you're ever unsure what's going on it's most likely about money. Kid is unhappy with his deal, wants a re-up, and is having a hissy fit over it because the Packers want him to honor what he already signed for.
He isn't sticking around without a new deal. I'd be shocked if they give him one after all these antics. Time to draft another CB unfortunately.
If he didn't like the roster bonus he never should have agreed to it. He probably thought he was a cinch to be active every game day. And that is why he was so timid in hitting guys, not wanting to get injured and miss the bonus.
Yep, draft priorities have changed significantly.

I’ve been saying that for the last few weeks. This is nothing but a money grab. The Packers need to move on.

Jaire needs a good former DB as a coach someone like…….
Al is going to be Quinn's DC if he gets a head coaching opportunity. We'll end up with Staley because of his offset pay. The only good news is anything is an upgrade over what we have now.

Marquand Manuel.
Our current DB coach. No clue if he's any good or not, but I had to look him up today because I haven't heard a single word good or bad about him from anyone this season. Came in with Pettine

I disagree, position / assistant coaches can be the "good guy', the confidant, the relationship guy. The head coach has to be the "hammer". Position coaches make the players' technique / fundamentals of the position better, Jaire doesn't need more of that ....he just needs someone to impose some fear in him. What would really help is to have vets who would not put up with any BS. Being shunned by your teammates is probably the greatest motivator for change. I just don't see any of that happening right now.
Imagine a situation where you get $650k for approximately 30 minutes of work... and then choose to sit out... and then get upset with your employer because of it.
Jesus fuck.
Every day guy, every day
Imagine having the talent that maybe 10 people in the world have to be paid that amount of money in the first place.
For 99.9999% of society we simply can’t understand or comprehend it but hey good for Jaire or any of these other guys for making that kind of money. The owners and league won’t apologize so neither should the players.
As for 23, I hope this is simply a snapshot in time because guys like that don’t grow on trees. Elite corners are unicorns and we’ll probably spend the next decade and god knows how many draft picks to replace the guy if the team is dumb enough to trade or release him.

I think an “injury” will come up that week.

A lot can and likely will change in 2024 that will go a long way to change Ja's current attitude with this team.
A new DC, especially an experienced on, say a Mike Zimmer hire will change a lot of things. For one, it's very likely he will want his guys as assistant coaches. That would mean current guys like Jerry Montgomery and other long-time assistants who have hung around here for years could be gone.
While the Packers aren't swimming in salary cap space, they have enough that they could sign a veteran safety AND a CB. Perhaps a Adrian Amos 2.0 type at safety. Even pro bowl safeties aren't costing an arm and a leg to sign in FA.
Adding some veteran help for Ja would also help him in the back field, he won't babysitting a bunch of rookies or year 2 players.
And there's also a possibility GB doesn't stay in a 3-4 defense. I have seen a lot observers seeing GB's 1st round talent pool and wondering why they are in a 3-4 defense and that they would be better suited as a 4-3 team. I am hardly an expert to know whether that's correct but these comments have been made by those who apparently do know.
Lastly, it seems like MLF and Ja cleared the air with this suspension. That can only help moving forward.
