Only one game and he needs to provide some consistency, but easy to see why the team hasn't given up on him.

I think it's hard for some people, wait just one person, one, to grasp the idea of consistency.

Chunk play stats like this are the fool's gold that leads teams to pay giant contracts on mediocre play.  Any logical person can see Hester has issues with tracking the ball if it isn't put right in his gullet as well as a tendency to bobble the ball even then.

That back shoulder catch was the most encouraging thing to see because that's his real issue.  That, by far, was the biggest achievement of the day.  If we see more consistency in ball awareness then he has turned a corner.  He may have done exactly that on Sunday.

And as far as @PackersHistory can go, yes MVS is Jordy Nelson.  The guy drafted behind fucking J'Mon Moore and part of a shotgun draft approach in the middle of the round.  It's just like how Jordan Love and Aaron Rodgers were/are the same when they were drafted except Gunt pissed away more capital for a QB not anywhere in Rodgers universe at that age.

I keep forgetting about Funchess. He might return in Aug/Sept 2021.  Lazard, ESB & MVS would've all stayed even with FUnchess. You'll notice they now have Tavon Austin

Gutey specifically stated they DID like some of the receivers that were drafted earlier in round 1. He tried to TRADE UP to get one (Jefferson / Aiyuk) but he was NOT going to mortgage the future to get a stud WR that probably will touch the ball an avg of 5-7 times per game IF he's good!

My biggest problem with the 2020 draft was picking Love instead of Queen. Love basically needs to be a decade long pro-bowl QB to make that pick worth it.

I don't think anyone would've wanted Gunt to mortgage the future for a WR.  There was plenty of WR talent past the first round.  The thing that keeps being dragged round in Scamper Man's pissing and moaning is the draft.

Is there one person here that didn't want Queen or Blacklock?  How about even a ILB or DT in the 4th round?  Well, one person I'm sure.

Let's just cut to the chase, again.  This really isn't about MVS, it's about one poster's red hot, visible from space, baboon ass butthurt over getting smacked around about the WRs last year.  #1 IN SEPARATION!  Otherwise he'd be telling us all to suck it because Tyler Lancaster and Ty Summers are the next coming of Gilbert Brown and Ray Nitschke.  He only staggers to the keyboard when MVS shows something.

The Jordy comparison is a false equivalent.  Just like the Adams comparison was before people finally gave up on that one.  One more time for the people in back: Jordy had other, starting caliber WR's ahead of him on the depth chart in his first 2 or 3 years.  MVS has had very little to compete with and has been given chance after chance to prove himself.  The coaches see enough in him to keep giving him more chances but they also don't have literally anything else to put on the field after 17 and 13.

That back shoulder catch was a beauty but it's not the first contested catch he's made.  He seems to struggle more with the easier ones.   I would be happy as a dogamn clam if he continued to play like he did sunday.  But I don't expect it as much as I would expect more inconsistency because that is what his entire body of work thus far would suggest.  Even that isn't really bagging on the guy.  If you can get a 5th rounder to give you a game like that out of every 4 or 5 games, even if he disappears in between, that's still really good value.  He doesn't have to be Jordy if he can do that.

MVS, 5th rounder. Nelson (essentially) 1st rounder. GB picked him 36th after they traded #30 to the Jets. Green Bay traded its first-round selection to the Jets for the Jets' second- and fourth-round selections (No. 36 and 113).

No reason to compare the two, ever, except that they both play WR and catch passes from Rodgers. So, using that info, maybe we should compare EQ to Jordy, or MVS to Allison, or Cobb to Austin. Pointless.

The best comparison for MVS to me, is to compare yr 1 MVS to college MVS, then yr 2 MVS to the rookie, yr 3 MVS to yr 2 MVS, etc...

We are seeing more from yr 3 MVS than we did from yr 2 MVS. At least that's how I see his growth.

The Lions made a concerted effort to not let Davante Adams beat them, by doubling & sometimes tripling him. Adams still had what...7 catches over 100+ & the TD -- now THAT is an elite WR folks & Adams will be the reason MVS & the other guys get chance after chance.

I think at age (now) 37 for Rodgers....would it have been worth it to mortgage (at least some of) the future & go up the draft to grab one of CeeDee Lamb / Jefferson or Aiyuk??

Looking at what guys like Matt Ryan have done in this offense in year 2 & now Rodgers having an MVP campaign, I think if I was GM, I would've "gone for it" if it doesn't work, at least I gave my $40 million a year player every potential opportunity to win 1 more.

I don't think they would've had to give up TWO 1st rounders to move up but you never know what other teams were asking for.

Knowing what I know now about J-Jeff / Lamb & Aiyuk, I would've done it for 1 future 1st rounder. Wouldn't hamstring the franchise for 5 years but maybe 2-3 depending on the deal.

OMG you're down to straight up lying  now? We had this discussion and you know damn well I wanted Queen, and you know damn well I was in the crowd that said run defense was the biggest problem last year.

I like MVS for a 5th Rounder.  Has potential, I guess.  But he's been given plenty of opportunity over his short career.  And I'm really not certain we're seeing that potential on a regular basis. His speed may not be easily replaceable, but his production and potential can be. Would like to see him succeed in GB, but I won't lose sleep if he's not on the roster next year.

We were in the NFC title game last year but needed to improve the personnel to get over the hump. We had a HOF QB with a window that is closing, a Pro Bowl RB on the last year of his contract, and were losing a flawed, but somewhat serviceable ILB in Martinez. Instead of doing something that would help us be more competitive this year, we decided to use our first four rounds of draft picks to draft the replacements for our star QB and RB and get a backup TE. It still infuriates me. I didn't have to be a WR. It could have been another DL rotation guy, an ILB, another safety, just some guys that could play this year. Imagine how much better our special teams would look with a couple of higher draft picks instead of more UDFAs (granted DeGuara was going to be a core guy there). The only thing that makes any sense is they thought Rodgers was regressing and this was going to be a down year. They will never admit that, but that's the only thing that makes sense. They figure they would be an 8-9 win team, Rodgers would start to fade, and they'd let Jones walk instead of paying big money.

MVS is fine for a 5th rounder. If he would have shown he can track the ball better in college and the leadup to the draft, he's probably a second-round pick. He drives us crazy because he does everything well except catch the ball consistently. The big difference last week was that he didn't let the ball get to his shoulder pads, instead he attacked it in the air. He looked like Davante Adams who is the best Packers WR I've ever seen in terms of just snatching the ball out of the air. The ball is moving like a bullet and Adams just grabs it and it stops moving.

MVS needs to do it consistently, but maybe their WR coach has been working with him on that and it's paid dividends. That TD catch against the Lions was as good a catch as you'll see from an NFL WR. If he continues to catch the ball with his hands instead of his shoulder pads or chest, the Packers WR coach may end up being the unsung hero of this team. MVS is going to have a lot of opportunities for back-shoulder throws since DBs have to respect him deep and can't be sitting on out patterns and back shoulders.
