It just seemed like he quit after week 1 honestly. I saw him in camp and he looked fine and he seemed fine in the preseason, not sure what else would cause his talent/production to take a nose dive. He doesn't figure into the gameplan and just quits, possibly trying to get cut. That's wild speculation in my part, but I really thought he had a bright future based on 2013. It's not like he was a gimmick speedster or super tall, he played good football in 2013...good routes, caught the ball well, etc. I guess he wasn't as mentally tough as we thought he was.

How he fairs in Carolina will tell the story I think. There's no way you become more productive going from Aaron Rodgers to Cam Newton unless you were trying to fail.

He is insecure and you can read it in his interviews. At first people thought he was just being humble and not taking anything for granted. But he didn't cope well with his demotion, pouted, sulked and was generally an Eor to be around. Instead of rising to the challenge, he went into a funk and TT said:

gotta get the funk out of GB

For some reason I notice during this last TC & Preseason game time frame that Rodgers got to throw to Nelson and Cobb a lot, not so much to those on the lower end of the WR depth chart.  AR never once threw to anyone below the projected starters in a preseason game this past year.  And last year when Boykin had his success, it was after AR was hurt and the backups were throwing to him.

If I (as an owner (ha, ha)) have anything to say about it, AR would get one drive with the starters at WR, and 2 drives with the backups to get some game time familiarity with them before leaving a preseason game.  I would love to have seen Janis give a defense something more to think about.  He would be a total mismatch for defenses from the slot this past year.  But I don't think AR or MM had any idea how to get him game time.  That is what it looked like to me.

Boykin was an undrafted FA. Maybe he struggled because he's simply not that good. The majority of his playing time in 13 was after the injuries to Cobb and Jones. Being a featured guy he put up 620 yards and 3 TDs

Lot of speculation about the guys confidence. Maybe an UDFA watched GB take a talented WR in round 2, then Abby and then Janis and figured his time in GB was probably short lived and just bought his time until it was time to go someplace else. Ted needed a better long term answer after losing JJ so he went and got Adams. Smart move.

That is very true about Boykin having his best production without AR in there. We know they simplified the offense for the backups so perhaps he wasn't being asked to run the same routes or make the same route adjustments he would have with AR in there. It's a complex offense and if you don't make the right adjustments or run the right route then you don't get the ball. Perhaps Boykin couldn't handle the complexity of the offense.

But to make a career in the NFL?  I'd stomach a lot.

You're all over the place. First he possibly quit on the team? Now he doesn't understand the offense?

Maybe it took an off-season of defensive coordinators to watch film and figure he is a one dimensional wideout.

GD - Guion is a 1yr deal, and Raji it seems would likely get a similar deal. Even then, if either has a pro-bowl type year neither would be in the age (28 & 29 going into next off-season) where the Packers would commit longer term. I think a NT is in the plans before OTAs start. Pennel could make the jump, but we wouldn't see that until the fall so depth in the spring (with an eye on the future) will be added I expect.

I think you're right. The only place I disagree is about a potential long term-ish deal for Raji. Thompson has been willing to stick with guys who are true Packer People even into their 30's...if they're still effective obviously. Pickett, Woodson, and Driver came to mind. If Raji looks like he has 3 or 4 good years left in him then I think Thompson would stick with him. Raji has been a really good team player, he showed his true colors in 2014 when he stayed with his team even though he could have stayed home or just come in for rehab and left (ala Jermichael Finley). If he has gas in the tank then he will stay.

@caplannfl: Letroy Guion's one-year deal with the #Packers is worth $2.75 M, per league source.

F****.q John Schneider.

Nothing personal....Just bidness.

I assure you though, Seattle & Schneider would've loved to have Guion cheaply. Seattle is in trouble on the O-Line & D-Line
