Meanwhile, who will be on the field Sunday?
McCarthy's input to Gutekunst's moves?
Gute: Mike, I traded Dix and Montgomery, okay.
McCarthy: Hands on the wheel. Toes at seven. Fundamentals.
Gute: Mike, I cut Whitehead, okay.
McCarthy: Self scout. Pawsitive. Most important ability is availability.
I don't think Gute is making these cuts to send a message. I think he's doing it because he wants those players gone. But hopefully players (and coaches) will get the message that Gute isn't sending.
Looks like they will be playing the no safety defense.
They may as well just play the safety dance.
They used to be Men Without Hats; now they're men without jobs!
I'd prefer the no-safety defense to the no-defense defense.
That was last season...and 2016, 2015.......2011.

You could be right. I think they were pals; I think Whitehead drove HHCD to the airport.
I believe that was Kentrell Brice.
Dammit they cut the wrong guy?!?!?
I never understood why he was getting PT to begin with. Sink or swim with Jones and if he isn't NFL material move on next year. If he is, he gets valuable experience.
I was shocked when Whitehead made the club. He was awful in the preseason IMO.
Boneheaded mistake combined with marginal talent was Whitehead's undoing.
So Redmond is an injury prone, midget speedster and the LB they signed to the PS is a lanky, speedy coverage back. Sounds like returner/possible safety conversion parachutes to me.

Agree. I think we're so used to these marginal talents hanging around that there was no question about Whitehead being a key player, but I don't think Gute is hanging on to these guys for very long. I think they saw enough of Tramon at FS to justify ditching a hybrid SS/LB who wasn't producing. I think Whitehead was going to be cut whether he punched that guy or not.
Perhaps if he closed hand punched the guy, he'd still be on the team. (I'm kidding, but c'mon, who slaps someone in the facemask?)
dream is over, bruce irvin to Atlanta.
Bruce Irvin is 31. He would have been a short term patch to a larger problem. I lost track of him after he left SEA. Has he been any good the last couple years?
Irvin is the type of guy who is just great with a defense loaded with talent. Otherwise, he sure seemed like another Maybin.
It look like the Saints are all in. They signed Dez Bryant. There goes our lower round draft pick. ;-)https://profootballtalk.nbcspo...category/rumor-mill/
The Saints offense has been running on all cylinders this season....so why go out and sign an aging team cancer??? I see this move backfiring on them.
almost like the redskins trade for haha, then 4 guys are out for the season the following week. obv picking higher is the way to go, but any extra 1st is an extra 1st...
Don't overlook the Panthers.
Although it would've been a real coup for Gutey if the Saints pick turned out to be a mid-round or better pick, I have to think he knew it could go both ways. Even if it's near the end of the 1st round it still gives him some ammo to possibly package and trade-up. Good value either way.
The team has a lot of needs and there should be a player there to fill one of em when the time comes.
But, you know, you can't fill all your holes.

Supposedly, a deep draft for pass rushers and OL. 2 Packer needs.
I wouldn't be surprised if Gute packages some of these 1st day picks to move up either. He should have plenty of picks to do so.
I see that its deep for pass rush and dt/de, so i say we stay put and draft where we are, but this isnt' the right place, there's a kid from kentucky that looks nice. josh allen. its strange though, i watch some video's of these next year prospects and although you can see it, they look meh to me, no explosive domination...but its the deepest spot in the draft, so...here's hoping.
Guys like Whitehead are on the fringe so they can't screw up. Whitehead should have known that.
But always cracks me up when a player goes to hit someone in the helmet or facemask. Just stupid. If you really want to hit a guy on the field and risk getting thrown out, go for the gut. At least that'll do some damage.
Man if he's the smartest player on defense what a bunch of meatheads we got.
Speaking of Whitehead.....
Busy day for Browns, who claimed CB Phillip Gaines and S Jermaine Whitehead on waivers, per source.

No. Just no.
Dez Bryant was helped off the field at #Saints practice today after suffering what the team fears may be a torn Achilles, sources tell me and @RapSheet. Heâs getting an MRI now.

Kicked the tires too hard? Woops.
Wow, that didn't last long.
