After reaching agreement today with free-agent RB Josh Jacobs, the Packers informed RB Aaron Jones that he is being released, per source. Jones now will be a free agent. pic.twitter.com/KsZAfhl5lW

Ooof.
I was not prepared for this. Wow. https://t.co/6Yfney3nee

Jacobs signing certainly suggested that might occur.
This is the scenario where Jones tests the market and see if he can find something better than what the #Packers are offering. If he can't, there's a chance he would come back. How the Jacobs signing affects his point of view could determine if he would even consider a return. https://t.co/ryg3e8d7iD

Damn.
I understand why, at this point in his career, the Packers weren't going to give Jones a 10 mil or more per year contract, which is probably what he wanted.
He was getting pretty banged up and the main reason he played so well late last year was because he missed so many games and had fresh legs.
Cold business. Great packer...
FUCK ME!
I'll bet 100% of the team is texting him right now
Oof. Sad day in Packer land if that's the last of Jonesy in the green and gold. All time top 5 player for me
Homecoming: The #Vikings are signing Minnesota native and LB Blake Cashman to a three-year deal worth up to $25.5 million, his agent @blakebaratz of @TeamIFA tells me and @RapSheet.

Big deal for @blockayy, who grew up in Eden Prairie, played for the Gophers and now is a Viking. pic.twitter.com/g3Cm2b8wsm
Aaron Jones already has suitors. This could happen quickly.

• $50 million signing bonus.
• $90 million for '24 and '25, fully guaranteed.
• $10 million for '26 becomes guaranteed in March '25.
So functionally, Cousins gets $100 million for 2 years, or $45 million per over 3 or 4.
And he got his 45 per.
I have this feeling Jones will sign with the Cowboys. It sucks but I go get it why the Packers are doing this. He is almost 30 and has been banged up recently. But, he means so much to the Packers offense when he is out there.
I expect Gute to use a draft pick in rounds 2 or 3 on a RB.

He's not coming back. I bet Dallas pays him. He has killed them for years now.

10 mil for 9 games probably doesn't make any sense.

Rosenhaus and Russini are tight so take that for what it's worth.
At this age, he's not an every down RB1 in the NFL. Any team that is going to rely on him for more than 12-14 carries per game is asking for him to be injured.
Lost a couple legendary Packers today.
Business Decisions
A question yet to be answered is whether the #Packers will wait until Wednesday to cut Jones and do it with a June 1 designation as they are doing with Campbell. A team can do that twice an off-season. They would gain almost $12M in cap space as opposed to $5M if done right away.

Aaron Jones was a lot of fun to watch for a lot of years.
His stretch of games to end the 2023 season were among his very best.
That said, I understand the 30 year-old RB wall is a real phenomenon.
However, the GM said Aaron was definitely going to be on the team during a recent press conference, so it is not like Aaron's age was that big a deal at that point.
What changed? Likely the $.
I hope, but do not feel very confident, that with the Jacobs signing the RB position is as good in 2024 as it was in 2023.
I guess RB just became a draft priority.
Vikings sign Van Ginkel, Cashman and Greenard. Apparently Flores wasn’t enamored with their linebacker/pass rusher room. I was hoping Van Ginkel would come to Green Bay, but he got $20 mil from Minnesota.
Damn, he was Packer people and he loved Green Bay. I’m suregonna miss him.
More Packers moves: Free-agent safety Xavier McKinney is signing a four-year, $68 million deal - a $17M per year average - with the Green Bay Packers. Agent David Mulugheta confirmed the deal. pic.twitter.com/tNy4F6YkHc

Uge! Safety spot is what I think needed to be resolved with a top notch vet.
This is not ROTTT's GBP offseason

All true, but this is a gut punch. A true Packer who is/was a great leader for the young guys as well. Hoping they are still able to bring him back. If not, I can see him in Dallas, now that they've lost Pollard.
Picked up two Bama dudes today that have worn the C on their Uni.
Talk about a day of mixed emotions.
Russ Ballz in the shitter with a bucket of Pepto Bismol at the thought of all this coin going out the door...
Say cheese ! 🧀

Just hate losing Jones, made a huge difference to our offense. If we get the 2022 Jacobs it is a good move, if we get the 2023 version, it is a bad move.
As for AJ33, gimme Kevin kline exclaiming "disappointed!" As for Xavier hell yeah!
I don’t wanna over hype any signing and look like a Homer, but GB just signed damn near the equivalent of Nick Collins at age 24 in McKinney.
Yes, he’s that f’in good. Wow.
