Keeping Zook away from any football team is a plus for football. He can talk about football all he wants, nobody will listen anyway.
I will make an exception for the Lions, Bears, and Vikings.

Unfortunately there are no trophies for that.
So there is an opportunity to create one? Great Clips would probably sponsor it.

When he says "no doubt about it," take a drink.
Have you heard about the 10 guys in a bar? ........ oh wait, isn't that the Packer front office?
I agree, saying less is usually better.
Stunned to learn from that link that of the 14 turnovers we had this year, five were on special teams.
we're not getting zooked anymore!!!
best news of the day, so far
Sounds like they "fixed the glitch".
These things just naturally work themselves out
Packers just won 3 more games - minimum.
If you put a lot of stock in the "McVay Factor" you might get a kick out of this. Sporting News has graded out the McVay connection relevance. FWIW our guy gets an "A".
Music to any Packer fans ears...
From Packer Report:
For years, former Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy spoke of the need to run the football. This season, no team ran the ball less frequently than the Packers.
Thatâs going to change under new coach Matt LaFleur.
âCertainly, weâre going to have a foundation in place of how we run our system,â LaFleur said in a side session with print reporters following Wednesdayâs introductory news conference. âI think itâs a system thatâs really predicated on building the run game with the pass game. We like to have plays, we like to say plays that start off looking the same but are different, plays that play off of plays. It lessens the predictability of what youâre trying to do, and it keeps a defense more off-balance.â
Time will tell

Only 5? It seemed like a lot more than that.
No real surprise here, but the Packers will not retain special teams coordinator Ron Zook. New coach Matt LaFleur will have a new special teams coach, per a league source.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you sweet Jesus!
Packers WR coach David Raih also will be free to pursue other jobs. A source said he will not be retained by new coach Matt LaFleur. Look for him to get a shot in Arizona. He worked with new Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury at Texas A&M in 2013.

The good news keeps coming....
Shaking things up. New blood. New energy.
Something tells me a staleness that was in the air at 1265 will be gone in no time.
Fine by me.
Yes, a breath of fresh air is badly needed at 1265 since about 2013, quite honestly. Yes I know they made 2 NFC CG's in 2014 & 2016 - Don't remind me about 2014. FML

Ugh I refuse to even think about that game again. Kind of in the same territory as when we lost the SB to Elway.
Anyhow, I think that the breath of fresh air around 1265 is going to be just what this team has needed. New offensive philosophy, keeping a very solid DC, showing Zook the door, Raih the door, and expressing what I feel is an honest desire to actually run the ball. It may be my green and gold glasses but I am starting to think we won't recognize this team the next time we see them on the field.
I thought there was a bit of a good housecleaning last year.....yes or no??
Yes the process has been underway since Dom was sent packing.
Go Pack Go.

If MM werenât so stubborn, he might still be coaching GB. He had a chance a year ago to bring in some fresh faces, and instead he hired Philbin, Hostler and Cignetti - 3 buddies who offered nothing new. If he learned a lesson, he has a chance to be successful in his next job.

I like him, plus his brother has done pretty well for himself........

And Zook gets, well ....ZOOKED!!!
Zook gets the hook!!
It's past time that happened.
Former Jacksonville OC Nathaniel Hackett is on #Packers coach Matt LaFleurâs radar. He was fired in November but he had the task of trying to run an offense with QB Blake Bortles and is well-respected. Lions are also interested.
â Tom Silverstein (@TomSilverstein) January 10, 2019
Well respected is great and all, be effective.
Hard to tell if Hackett is a crappy OC or if he's just constantly been dealt a crappy hand...
Starting QBs he's been given:
- EJ Manuel
- Thaddeus Lewis
- Jeff Tuel
- Kyle Orton
- Blake Bortles
- Cody Kessler
That's a pretty rough list of dingbats. They were 3rd in points in 2017 even with Bortles at QB and 1st in rushing, but terrible in all areas every other year.
Also Nathaniel Hackett is the son of Paul Hackett, who was Mike McCarthyâs mentor.

Did I miss the new HC mission statement being posted on Packers.com?
GrainBelt66 posted:I think he was actually referring to the players in leadership roles. I.e. Rodgers and crew. As well as certain coaches.
Not specifically, or even at all, himself and Gute.
He may have been referring to the players, but I took it that he and Gutekunst may not have been as tuned in... not that he intended to infer that.
Paul Hackett is good genes. Pure WCO mind.
As far as who is then OC, the offense will be LaFleur's, the OC's job will be to help him implement it. I think there is a different skill set between a coordinator who runs the show and one who is helping implement the HC's show. It definitely is important that they are on the same page but I am not as concerned.
I'm assuming MLF will be calling plays? If so, it doesn't really matter who the OC is. He's basically MLF when he was with McVay in 2017.
Onward.....

Hope he passes on Hackett. He sucked with the Bill's and with Syracuse when a college coordinator.
Hackett MAYBE as a position coach, absolutely not as a coordinator. His playcalling style is Rossley-esque run-run-pass-punt ad nauseum. I'd rather MLF take a chance on an unknown.

So are we really going to start referring to him as MLF (MILF)? I guess better than MALF...(insert Happy Days jokes here)

Settle down Russ...
I believes MLF will be calling his own plays.
