I'm not sure Nassib has the frame to maintain the size of those guys and he's way more stiff than Smith. The guy appears to have  my lateral movement skills.

He's 6'7" and 275 lbs., he's very lanky. He has a ton of room to grow and add muscle. Smith never had elite lateral quickness either, his game was always power and hustle. Even as a 43 End in Cincy he piled up sacks with power and technique, not speed. Smith came out in 2001 and was 6'4" 273 and I think Kiesel was about the same except taller.

I get where you're coming from but, too me, Nassib looks built thinner than those guys, more like a basketball player, and he just looks really stiff. I like Joe's comparison to Michael Johnson.

Just throwing that name out there. I think he'd be a really interesting player in this D as a 5 tech. Muscle him up to 290ish, with close to 35" arms he could be a real player at that spot, especially with his attitude/motor. If he's there in r2 it should be a no brainer.

A late round sleeper I've been reading about is Boston College ILB Steven Daniels. He's 5'11"/240 lbs. with fantastic instincts and an old school thumper mentality. Really strong, powerful run defender who would be a steal in r6.

Big Ted's favorites in the 2014 draft were C.J. Mosley and Ryan Shazier and it was widely reported that he would have taken either of those two linebackers over the safeties (Clinton-Dix and Calvin Pryor) had one of the two been available.  I don't think Ted is against taking an ILB at all, but if he's going to use a high pick on one he'll likely only do so if the guy is a plus-plus-athlete who projects to play all downs in the NFL.

Darron Lee won't make it to #27 but if he does I think there is a really good chance he'd be the #1 guy left on Ted's board.  I have concerns about Lee's size but I don't think Ted would.  He was willing to take Shazier and Shazier played at 222 pounds while he was at Ohio State.

Reggie Ragland could make it down to #27 and it would be interesting to see if Ted would pick him or not.  Probably 50/50...if there is still a really good pass-rusher available then I think Ted would go that route but if those guys are off the board then Ragland could be Ted's top player.

Joshua Perry is a pretty good candidate at the end of round two.  I like the way this guy plays, big physical guy that does remind me of Desmond Bishop but is a better athlete.  Had concerns regarding his long speed but he ran well enough at Indy where the value is pretty solid at the end of round two.

Myles Jack doesn't enter the discussion because he's long gone by the Packers pick and Jaylon Smith is too much of an injury risk.  I don't think Ted will have much interest in Kentrell Brothers, Scooby Wright or Tyler Matakevich.  Although Brothers did do very well in the agility tests at Indy and Ted is a known lover of the 3-cone drill.

So when that all gets put together there are 8 candidates in the first three rounds, but how many are available for Green Bay where Ted values them?  Good chance that three (Brothers, Wright, Matakevich) might be day three picks on Ted's board, that takes the number of candidates down to five.  Two of those five will be off the board when the Packers pick (Jack, Lee), so now it's down to three.  Jaylon Smith is probably too much of an injury risk so now it's down to two.  Reggie Ragland...very good chance he is gone by #27 so then the only inside linebacker left is Joshua Perry.  If a team drafts Perry in the middle of round two then who is left for Ted to take in the first three rounds?  Always a chance that Ted values someone like Nick Vigil or Blake Martinez much higher than other people, I wouldn't be surprised if those players were listed ahead of linebackers like Wright and Matakevich on Ted's board.  But would Vigil or Martinez be high enough on Ted's board to use a round three pick on?

CU what do you think of Penn St DE Carl Nassib? Is he a one year wonder or the real deal? Personally, I love him as a prospect. He has great height and length, great motor, great attitude, production was there albeit only in year 4. If he takes a redshirt year in the pros and bulks up and could play effectively at like 290...he reminds me of Aaron Smith/Brett Kiesel with Justin Smith potential.

I'm not a huge fan of Nassib.  I'm skeptical that he can play with power at 6'7".  Not to go all MM on this but I think he'll struggle with pad level.  You're right, he'd have to gain 20 lbs and I've read he's already put on 60 lbs since high school so have to wonder how much more he can add (and more importantly.....keep on through 16+ games).  If he can do that and play consistently at 295 lbs and translate that to power (and play with good pad level), he could be a steal.

From the Packers standpoint, he'd be intriguing in the 3rd.  At that point he'd be worth the risk.  But I think a team will fall in love and take him earlier.

PackerJoe, I would be concerned about Lee's size.  This past weekend they had a big autograph session at our local mall with many of the Suckeye's players who are in the draft now.  I walked by when Lee was doing his session and the dude looks like a safety.  I am not sure what he is listed at but I was shocked to think he could hold up as a LB in the NFL unless he bulks up some.  but that being said he is FAST and is a pretty good hitter.

Would love to see TT pull a trade-up, ala Clay Matthews, and get Myles Jack.  He has upped his weight to 245, so inside LB is not out of the question, and he was never much of a pass rusher at UCLA so I don't think teams looking for a pass rushing OLB will want him.

However, what makes him special is he is that he is not just a three down LB who  tackles well---but he can also cover a slot WR as well as a TE (when's the last time we had somebody who could cover a TE at ILB--Brandon Chillar?)  I was at his last game he played before getting hurt--against BYU--and when UCLA lost two CB's to  injury in the game, they put Jack at CB for most of the second half.  Jack ended the game by intercepting BYU as they were driving in UCLA territory.  How many times do we get killed in a game by a completed pass over the middle to a TE--Jack would be the answer to that, as well as being a sure tackler.

Ted doesn't usually trade up, but with the couple extra picks in the 4th and with a need for a real difference maker on defense and not just a "solid player", maybe this might be the time to trade away a draft pick or two for a move up.

More convinced now that Ted will go with a big boy in the first with Raji  gone. I'm really liking the idea of Butler the more I read, but Ted has never drafted outside of the Power 5 conferences n R1. We know he sticks pretty closely to his self-imposed rules, so could this be a factor?

DT is very deep this year...I could see him going BPA in R1, and looking to add a DT in round 2-7. There will be many.

What does everyone think about Devontae Booker and Kenyan Drake?  I see them going in rounds 3-4 in mock drafts pretty consistently and with Lacy's weight concerns and the lack of a backup, I figure TT would look at RB in those rounds.  I'm a little biased on Booker b/c he was a big reason I won my 2014 college fantasy football league.  And I think Drake is like TJ Yeldon: a good player stuck behind better players. Both could be 3 down backs, which is how MM likes using his backup RBs.  A big concern with both are fumbles but that can be fixed.  Thoughts?

EDIT: I think third round might be too early but 4th would seem like a good spot if one or both are there.

I'm not in love with any of the backs this year outside of Elliott, tbh. If they're going to spend a Day 2 pick, the guy I like best is CJ Prosise out of Notre Dame (I feel dirty plugging a domer). He's a 6' 225#+ back so he has the size they seem to like, he has speed, he catches the ball well, and plays special teams.

He's raw as heck as a between-the-tackles runner, though.

Honestly the RBs I'm most interested in are Georgia RB Keith Marshall and San Jose St RB Tyler Ervin. Ervin is built more like a Slot Receiver and his athleticism presents matchup issues against LBs and even some Safeties. Marshall is really interesting because had he not hurt his knee in year 2 and reaggrivated it in year 3 he probably would have been the top RB in the draft. Elite athlete with injury questions, but the boom is sky high. Both players are boom/bust, but could be had in the 4th.

After the top 2 guys, I see a lot of guys who are mid-round quality but are being overhyped or will be overdrafted.
