It’s about value with Baun. Does he fill an important need? Yes. Will there be better values/players available at 30 at other needs? Probably. He’s a guy, like Malik Harrison, that I would trade up for in R2, but 30 seems like a reach.

Ok...here's another mock...granted, there is no moving around the board, so I targeted players I wanted. I know we all have varying opinions on where guys should go, and I respect that. In this particular case, I passed on Murray, who happened to be there at 30 to land the TE/WR guy I think the team could really use. You can ding me for that, if you like. Some would say Claypool will be there at 62. I'm not convinced of that, so I drafted him. I also went with Morgan in the 5th, as he is a QB I think would develop well, and represents very good value there. It does cost a valuable position player, though (most notably, ILB), so it's not without some hesitation I made that pick. My biggest mistake was probably drafting Harrison Hand and missing out on Wiilie Gay, Jr. If I could do it over, that would be my pick there in the 6th.

By the way, Malik Harrison went two picks before Chinn, to Baltimore, of course. 😄Otherwise, he would have been my selection there.

Based on what GB has done in FA so far, I don't think they can leave the first 2 or 3 rounds without a MLB.  If not Queen or Murray, they have to land Dye or Brooks.  The new guy plus Burks and Summers isn't going to get it done.

Again.....I highly doubt GuteMaster will pigeon-hole himself to one position when it comes to the Packers selection. In ANY round. That's not how you draft successfully

I'm sure people didn't think the Packers would take Gary after signing Smiff Bros. and look what happened.

Baun ran his 40 similar to CM3...4.65...no it's not as fast as Murray or Queen, but if he has better anticipation and knows how to play angles, that speed difference is quickly negated.

I'd rather have a slightly slower smert guy than a fast dum-dum.

Blake is also known as a slower smart guy. We'd only be getting younger at the position. Not the worst thing in the world.

A lot would depend on the board at that point in time, I guess.

Football smart and book smart don’t always go hand in hand. CM3 is the perfect example....not particularly book smart but I’ll be damned if he took many bad angles. Baun is lot more like CM3 than Blartinez.

Yea, everybody has heard that philosophy before.

Again, GB needs to find a young stud MLB in this draft, probably very early.... call him BPA at the time if it blows your skirt up but it doesn't change the fact that MLB's need to be targeted.

I think if Murray is there at 30, we jump on that pick. If not, I 'd look at IDL and hopefully nab a Gallimore or Kinlaw and then go for an ILB in the 2nd. Dye, Gay and Harrison should be available for our pick in the 2nd. If we go for a WR, with our second pick, I think Shaquille Quarterman, as an ILB, will be there for our pick in the 3rd round. All depending on if Gute moves around, though.

This mock draft has the Packers taking QB Jordan Love at #30.

I sense 2005  all over again.  The Vikings with 2 picks before GB gets to take it only pick of the first round.  TWICE the Vikings ignore Mr. Love.  Two or three years from now Rodgers hangs it up and Mr. Love takes over and it's HOF QB #5 in the making.  Plus another 16 years to rub it in.  I wonder how many of these it is going to take for the Vikings to hand in their franchise card and disband.

Decent hands, his body is a weapon. Only 26 in May. High ceiling if he can stay healthy, and no reason to believe he can't be...broken clavicle last season was a freak injury. Low risk, high reward potential.

Gute with multiple shrewd signings. All 3 guys he's picked up are undervalued guys coming off down or injury seasons. If they all stay healthy and play to their abilities then we're getting 3 stud players and absolutely outrageous value compared to big name/high $ UFA's. It's a big gamble considering our depth at OT and ILB and these moves not working out will leave glaring holes, but if they do work out then there shouldn't be any excuses.

Texas WR Devin Duvernay is that guy.

Dude is lightning fast. Intriguing prospect. I have another prospect for you, and I need to know your thoughts on this. Where do you have OT Terence Steele ranked, and would you like him in Green and Gold?

I don’t have any rankings, but he’s intriguing for sure. Good size, moves well, good effort. Only the Baylor game is available, so that’s all I’ve watched, so I don’t have a huge reference. I liked what I saw though, he needs a lot of technique work, seems to bend a lot and needs to improve his hand usage...he let Baylor DL really win the hand fighting, but when his technique was sound he was a mauler. His movement skills are good for this blocking scheme, reminds me a lot of Billy Turner. I’m guessing he’s a R4-R5 type prospect.

Packers "very interested" in James Morgan

But a return to health led to a standout week at the East-West Shrine Game, and the momentum has built from there. Teams like Morgan’s size and arm talent, and are impressed with his intellect, leadership and mental preparation. One scout who spent time with Morgan at the combine describes him as, “very smart.” Another adds: “We all liked him that week.”

So he's moving up the charts but how far?  Are we talking 2nd rounder considering how teams generally reach for QBs?    He's no Jordan Love with all the shitty decision making while looking great in hot pants but what would you think if they picked him up in the 3rd?  Too high?  Too frivilous?

I like this WR in the 3rd round:

https://thedraftnetwork.com/player/bryan-edwards

Contested Catch Ability - He's super tough to uproot at the catch point and wins spacing like a low post player in basketball. He's pretty savvy to extend late and use his frame to shield the ball. Some spectacular catches with defenders on the body and several other near misses litter his tape as well.

RAC Ability - Was used frequently as a screen target and showcased good field vision to break loose. Only modest long speed but he's physical as a receiver and will physically challenge smaller defenders to try to tackle him one on one, often running through soft challenges and breaking and creating extra yards.

Football IQ - Long-established starter who wins where he wins and has developed helpful habits to help aid his lack of dynamic athleticism. He's pretty nuanced to fight leverage. At times ate courtesy of manufactured touch passes and screens, a testament to his play making skills with the ball in his hands.

Sounds like a #2 to me.

Hard to say where Morgan falls, he plays a lot like Favre (who was a 2nd rounder). Lots of issues with his accuracy and decision making though (lots of INTs and low completion %), hard to project where he fits. Could be a product of coaching and talent around him, but I would call him a mid rounder at best. Would be a good story though if they picked him. He definitely has some tools to work with.

I'd be good if they picked him up in the 4th round but the hype train probably won't make that realistic.

Reading his bio it sounded like Bowling Green was running a air raid offense until the coach left his sophomore season.  Not sure what style of offense Florida International ran but the mention of "pro style" QB and success with a change of scenery does make it interesting.

Too frivolous to spend a 3rd on a non-contributor. He's probably not beating out Boyle and GB is unlikely to keep 3 QBs on the 53 -  so you'd lose him at cutdown time.

Gute is going for it...and 3 yr QB projects aren't part of that plan in terms of investing high picks. Tim Boyle is very likely QB2 for 2020 and that's not a bad thing in my view.

Could be some pre-draft smoke and mirrors to get someone to throw some picks at them or keep the guys they want on the board.   Still not real clear how Gertz games the system.
